Artisan Roast

The original of two locations (the other is in Bruntsfield), probably the best coffee in Edinburgh. The long black is almost a religious experience :)

This place had been on my radar for a long time and finally I had an excuse and some time to drop it.
Small, cosy, simple and inviting interior makes you want to stay for a while, which I was only happy to do. AR takes their coffee seriously, something I had heard and am glad to see was not just an expression of sale. Ordered my usual benchmarking cappuccino, and as expected was presented with a small, perfectly formed cup of rich, flavourful and dark elixir topped with a good strong foam topping.
I find it rare to stay in one place for more than one coffee, preferring to move onto a new place or finally stop procrastinating on whatever it is I used coffee as an excuse to get out of, here I made an exception. The second cup I had with one of their well reviewed cinnamon bun, with my coffee companion opting for some other cake offering which apparently went down as well.
I shall be back!

I can’t really say anything that hasn’t already been said, except this is my favourite coffee shop in Edinburgh, and it is among my favourite places I’ve ever visited in the world!
I love how relaxed everything is, and how amazing the coffees are. Always made beautifully and always a fantastic choice of beans from around the world to choose from.

This is the original third wave coffee shop in Edinburgh. Artisan Roast is probably single handedly responsible for the independent coffee scene that Edinburgh enjoys today.
They take coffee seriously, they roast it and their beans are used across a lot of the city. If your going to drink Artisan Coffee in Edinburgh you should drink it here.
Artisan has other branches across the city but Broughton Street is the original and the one with the most character. I’ve been visiting for many years and love to chill in the morning with a flat white, croissant and an iPad. It’s the kind of place that could seem intimidating at first (there’s no counter to pay or order) but also the kind of place you come to love and is filled by regulars who keep coming back.
There are some interesting hot chocolate choices but coffee is really the reason you come here. Baristas are knowledgable and always happy to recommend a good filter coffee.
Food is limited but there are usually some nice cakes or pastries (if you get in early enough).
It’s open till 7.30pm during the week (except Fridays) which few other coffee shops so it’s an ideal place to hang out after work. And get a loyalty card to get a free coffee every time you buy 9.
A major annoyance is that they don’t accept card. Even when buying beans and spending over £10. There are cash machines not too far away but it’s inconvenient if you find yourself short on cash.

Gorgeous wee coffee shop served by friendly cool staff. Artisan roast is simply perfect for a quick stop or to sit in and inhale their amazing aromas of freshly brewing coffee. It’s quirky interior is shabby chic and makes you feel very relaxed — perfect to chill out. They have a great selection of pastries and croissants to satisfy sweet cravings, today I just had my favourite flat white to take away. Creamy, delicious, smooth and served at the perfect drinking temperature. Happy days:)

Ein Tresen, der die Crew von den Kunden trennt, sucht man hier vergebens. Wer das Café betritt, tritt gleichermaßen der Crew entgegen, die jeden mit charmanter Gelassenheit Willkommen heißt, selbst wenn der Andrang noch so groß ist. Von schnell, schnell ist man hier weit entfernt, denn die Mannschaft weiß, dass guter Kaffee seine Zeit braucht.
Unentschlossene werden geduldig bei der Auswahl ihres Kaffees beraten. Durch eine Tafel wird man dazu aufgefordert zu fragen, was gut ist. Das wissen die Meister an der Maschine zweifelsfrei. Wünsche nach einem Cappuccino auf der Basis eines einfachen Espresso bringen sie keineswegs aus dem Tritt und auch der Bitte, kein Zimt– oder Kakaopulver darüber zu streuen, begegnen sie amüsiert mit den Worten: «Oh no, we are not doing THAT.»
Die Tasse heißen Glücks wird an den Tisch gebracht. Auf Untertassen wird verzichtet. Ein stilles Wasser steht jedem frei, sich zu nehmen. Wer mag, kann sich auch mit kostenpflichtigem Gebäck stärken, ein kleiner Keks zum Getränk auf Kosten des Hauses fehlt nämlich leider. Dafür fällt auf, dass die Preise danach variieren, ob vor Ort oder als Take away verzehrt wird. Letztere sind ein wenig teurer.
Jeden Tag läuft andere Musik im Hintergrund. Ständig verändert sich ein kleines Detail im Café. Lauter kleine Zeichen humorvoller Menschen wie z.B. das Schild an der einen Unisex-​Toilette «First knock :)». Definitiv ist das mein Café. Leider gibt es einen Stern Abzug für den fehlenden Keks.

In diesem kleinem Laden findet man mit Abstand den besten Kaffee in Edinburgh. Der Kaffee ist ungefaehr doppel so teuer wie im Supermarkt, aber die Qualitaet ist nicht vergleichbar.
Ich kenne keinen anderen Laden in Edinburgh der seinen Kaffee selbst roestet.
Ein besuch lohnt sich auf alle Faelle. Man kann hier gut Kaffee trinken, und die Heisse Schokolade is ebenfalls super gut.
