Dario’s

Awful. Rude staff. Took forever to take our order. The ‘homemade’ bread was clearly made in somebody’s home — if that somebody lived in Tescos — about three weeks before it was served to us. They came, the offered us black pepper, we said yes, we never saw them again.
And the food was stinking. Just a rubbish place to be honest. Very disappointing.

I went to Dario’s tonight with a group of nine people and, after reading some of the reviews, I was dubious but willing to give it a try. Some of the others who had been there previously warned me and everyone at the table that the pizzas weren’t the best there, so we all ended up going for pasta dishes. I had the lasagne, which was fine but not amazing. I usually could never have enough cheese, but I’d have to say in this case it was a bit too cheesy and without enough substance. Some bites I was just eating melted cheese it seemed! Others in the group had a variety of other pasta dishes that were all reportedly fine but not great. One woman received a dish that wasn’t the one that she had ordered, but she had it anyway. Also, when the waiter served the sicilian pasta, my friend was excited it was his dish and he was served it. However, one other guy was left without a meal and, when the waiter investigated, he realised it wasn’t the sicilian pasta but was in fact the other guy’s pasta, so he took it away from one (with a few bites eaten) and gave it to the other! About five minutes later the real Sicilian pasta dish arrived, but the whole situation was a bit strange.
Dario’s in general was a bit strange since the nine if us had a big table in the back room and there was only one couple occupying the whole of the front/​main room. It was odd it was so deserted, even on a Sunday evening. The food seems just ok or hit or miss. I won’t aim to go out of my way to come back.

Staff pretty rude to be honest. The food was average. Wouldnt go back.

I went to dario’s for a meal with my partner and i ordered the fillet steak,
staff were friendly tended to our needs got drinks and things sorted and the staff were generally amazing.
But then the food came.
my partner got chicken with tomato sauce and veg etc etc she said it was very nice and she cleaned the plate.
I got the fillet steak as i said, it came out I ordered it medium as i always do it seemed ok until I turned it over as I could smell a fishy smell from it???
I turned it over and it was blue and cut open (being a chef I was amazed/​shocked) also stinking of fish it was disgusting.
I immediately stopped eating and called the waiter. he asked if everything was ok i said no this stinks of fish and i wish to have another one being 17 quid I thought it would’ve been great but unfortunately not.
he went away with the plate and as we kinda new him he came back for a chat and he said the chef said it was fresh in that day! (was it fk).
anyway staff and waiters 5 stars

Sorry darios chefs let you down big time and you lost a regular customer!!!

Went for a pre theatre lunch here! The food was mediocre and the service was fine, staff were friendly. Prices were cheap and the lunchtime wine reflected that! You get what you pay for & this is a gloriified Italian chippy which provides a service! I see many of the previous reviews are from clubbers and late night diners to which I feel this establishment is most suited!
If you need food in a hurry & are not too fussed about quality this is your kinda place!

I’ve always given Dario’s on Lothian Road a wide berth; it looks pretty dingy from the outside and I always thought it was only good for drunken stag parties falling out of the nearby strip clubs. However, I recently started working opposite and I have heard exemplary reports of their pizzas and pastas. At lunchtime (from 12pm until at least 2pm, although it might be later), all pizza and pasta is £2.75: major bargain. The cheeky counter staff make everything in front of you and give you some banter whilst they’re working. The food isn’t cordon bleu, but if you’re in need of a cheap, tasty and filling lunch, you could do a lot worse.

I’ve been here once for a meal and it wasn’t bad I’ve been here hundreds of times for cheesy chips in the early hours nothing is that good!

I love Dario’s as it is open till the wee small hours of the morning and is a welcome alternative to eating a bag of chips in a bus shelter, or trying to hide a fish supper in your handbag in a taxi.
Dario’s are accomodating of the post pub/​club crowd (although they dont let anyone in who’s going to be a problem, which is good!) The food is really good, the pizza’s are my favourite, and they are pretty accomodating of diners requests to tinker with the menu!
There’s something really great about sitting down to a meal at 3am, all dressed up! The fact that the food is of restaurant standard is obviously an added bonus.
The fact that most chip shops in Edinburgh close before the clubs means that Dario’s has become a legendary life saver to the starving post-​clubbers. One day, I hope I will get around to eating there at a reasonable time as the food is lovely!

I really like this restaurant, its best feature is probably that it is open until about 4am so you can stagger out of a club or pub on Lothian Road and have something good to eat rather than a kabab. I have been sober though and the food was really good, they have a very large menue with lots to choose from, I especially recommend the Insalata Caprese which is great. The menu is also quite well priced. If you go late at night you will probably be greeted by a few merry people but they have doormen who dont let the more intoxicated people in so it is still a pleasant place to eat. If you dont want to sit in they do have a take away facility aswell.

Darios is a bit of an Edinburgh institution. It’s been doing the hugely popular three coude business mans lunch for £4.85 for years and still pulls in a large crowd. The service is generally good, and the pasta is excellent, although the pizzas can sometimes be too greasy. Theres no need to book, and it’s open till 5am at the weekend for late night spagetti carbonara.

The service here was not too bad. The food was nothing spectacular, typical italian food, pastas, pizza’s etc, some of which could be a bit greasy like they lasagne. Quite a busy restaurant.
