Edinburgh at Home

My relationship with my mother is tumultuous at best; she likes playing mind games, and teaching me a lot about the psyche of a woman. She plays a kind of reverse psychology and then ambushes me into a corner in order for her to get what she wants out of me.
Take our trip to Edinburgh for example, I knew we were going to Scotland to see some family friends, but a Rail strike over Easter was to play a pivotal role in how long we stayed and as my mother wanted a longer stay than everybody, So she set about suggesting things and always ending sentence with «but you promised you were coming» guilting me into cancelling everything I had planned…
I had already said yes to going to Scotland, but for less than a week as I had prior engagements in London and had no intention of going to Edinburgh. The train strike meant that we had to spend part of the week there, as we weren’t expected until later in that week. So the plan changed and Edinburgh was the place to stay for 4 days.
We then had to look for somewhere to stay for 5 people in Edinburgh and with the financial constraints of nowadays, I was a little worried as I knew Edinburgh had fluctuating prices of their hotels, I discovered that the prices were mostly tied to the proximity of the city, the nearer the pricier, like anywhere else in the world. Finding a hotel would be hard from here on in, the prices turned out to be between the nigh-​on-​ridiculous and just downright thievery, I’m sure they knew we were coming.
We thought we could save money by flying from London as the trains were still troubling are arrangements, and whilst looking at airlines I noticed some of the websites had a hotel section…
So I thought «maybe a cheap airline would suggest a cheap accommodation» and I was right. I found this place. It didn’t even have a proper name, the only reason I know the name now is by the address. Anyways, I found this place that did accommodation for bigger groups at amazing rates, I think it was about £75 a night for 5 people.
What a steal.
When we got there, we knew we had to pick-​up the keys but nothing prepared us for the deal we got. It was a flat, no lift and we were on the top floor of this 4 floor building in a gated square and I think there was a mixture of permanent and short stay residents. The flat was lovely and had all the things to make you feel like at home, and it was less than 10mins walk from the city centre and less to the Haymarket rail station. This really helped our holiday stresses, and as I felt like an unwilling passenger I soon came to terms with it and really enjoyed my stay in Scotland… bloody windy though. Oh and a swimming pool and a «gym» with a sauna out back which was very nice
