TLDR: Avoid, scammers

So my experience with this place has been negative on two occasions. I purchased a set of cables (from online) to be fitted on the bike, along with a gear service, I was quoted £24, seemed reasonable.
I had booked my bike in for a day when it could be completed on the day. I live quite far from the place so I wanted to hang around and pick it up. I was contacted on the day I was scheduled to bring it in from who I presume is the owner and stated that he wasn’t going to open until 1pm that day. When I asked him whether he could still do the job on the day he assured me he could. I took my bike in that day around 2pm. The guy then stated that he was very busy and might not get it done today, to which I then reiterated my point about living far away, and why I booked it in. He begrudgingly accepted to do it. I asked him if the work would be compromised by being tight for time, he assured me it wouldn’t.
I returned an hour or so later and the bike seemed to be done. Cables were fitted and it looked ok. Paid the guy and thanked him for doing it and left. I didn’t get out for a while after that but when I did the gears were hitting against the front dérailleur and when I tried to move from the smaller chainring to the larger it would push too far and fall off the outside. Again, when moving from the larger chainring to the smaller, the chain would get caught in-​between the two chainrings forcing me to move it manually or only stay on one cog at the front at all times whilst cycling.
This all happened on my first time taking the bike out after the repair so I phoned up the company and stated the issues. I was told to bring it in and it would get sorted. Took it in again and spoke to a different guy, he said they’d sort the issues and there would be no charge. 4 days! After dropping it off they called saying It was ready. I had called them in-​between that time to check if it was ready and the original guy I took it to was who I spoke to. He said he had to flip the front chainring around to bridge the gap so the chain wouldn’t get stuck in-​between the chainrings

Went in to pick up the bike and it was the original guy I had dealt with again. He brought the bike out, stated what he done and then presented me with a bill for £22. I then explained to him about having paid originally and how the other guy stated there would be no additional charge. His defence was that he done additional work to fix the issue… this was without mentioning this would be an additional charge when I spoke to him on the phone. He tried to justify himself again a few times and then stated that if I didn’t want to pay the bill that he would turn the chainring around again to reinstate the issue… keep in mind I had already paid him £24 the first time around to fix the gears and cables which includes altering the front dérailleur as need be. So he essentially threatened to sabotage my bike, although he had already been paid to fix the issue. What he was trying to do was scam me for additional payment for a service I already paid for and that he didn’t fix at the first time of asking.
The guy who tried to scam me was called Richard, I would very much recommend avoiding this place. They take an unbelievable amount of time to fix your bike and when you do get it back chances are it’ll not be done correctly anyway.

I called these guys to get my bike serviced and said I would bring it in to be done on the Wednesday of that week. When I brought it in they hadn’t actually booked me in but Richard said he would try his best to fit it in asap.
The bike was serviced on the Thursday and is running like a dream.

As a keen cyclist I’ve been to a few shops in Edinburgh selling bike bits, and Leith Cycles is certainly one of the best about!
I’ve found them to be incredibly helpful, even when they are busy. They’ve not got the biggest stock available, but it’s certainly preferable to some of the more arrogant members of staff at say, Edinburgh Bike Coop!
All in all a pretty good little place.

A bike shop at the end of my street — perfect! And a good one, too — they always give useful advice, do great repairs, and sell a good range of bikes along with all those little things you need — gloves, sunglasses, inner tubes…
I’ve just been along to ask about what I thought was going to be quite an expensive repair job — and Richard, the owner, fixed the problem in two minutes, standing in the street outside. That’s good service! And proves I don’t know what I’m doing and need the experts…

This isn’t the largest of bike shops and doesn’t particularly offer a great deal of range limiting itself to selling primarily commuter bikes and doing repairs and services.
Although there aren’t that many bikes on offer, they do, however, manage to cover a decent range of bike types by avoiding duplication of similar styles and are on a par with the bigger bike shops in terms of pricing.
Personally, I’d still go elsewhere to where you get more choice within each specific price range, but if you do live locally then you won’t get a worse deal here, you just won’t get the same range.

I’m not into cycling at all, so this shop is definitely lost on me. But it looks good!
If I were into cycling, this would be my one-​stop-​shop for everything I need. The staff are really friendly, I came in here for a look (to satisfy my curiosity more than anything) and the staff went more than happy to show me around even though they knew I wasn’t going to buy anything.
Maybe it’s because I’m not into cycling, but I found everything in here to be extremely expensive! But hey as I said, I’m a newbie

I used to be very much into cycling — so it still gives me a little kick each time I come into a shop like this, one which not only sells bikes for people who are really seriously inot cycling but also for those evryday cyclists who are just taking thier stabilisers off. And talking of taking stabilisers off, Lieth Cycle Co can do that for you in thier cycle repair shop thingy which specialises in all areas of repair with bicycles — brakes, tirees, and suspension — the whole lot.
It also seems that they hire out bikes to look around the city with, which to my mind is such a great idea i am really suprised nobody else has copied it!

This is a relatively new bike shop in Edinburgh which opened on Leith Walk just in 2007. I had a look around about a week ago it seems well stocked with plenty of good quality bikes for both adults and children, as well as mountain and road bikes. They hire out good quality bikes for as little as £7 for half a day which would be very handy if you’re looking to get around the city quickly in a a short space of time. Further, they repair buckled wheels, dodgy brakes, misfigured frames and fix the illusive mechanics of gear systems.
You can also buy spare parts individually, such as suspension forks, disc brakes and new saddles which all allow you to do up your bike as you want it. The staff are all friendly and seem willing to lend their expert advice for all those looking to start out with a new bike or just improve the one they have.

I was pleasantly surprised with the service at Leith cycle. They offer quite good range of bicycles and accessories. If you need a full bike check or any kind of repair, they are one of the best stores to visit. The staff are extremely attentive and helpful. I need to hire a bike for a day and it cost me only 10 pounds. The only awkward thing was that you cannot pay by a debit or credit card but they do tke your credit card details in case any damage to the bike is caused while being rented. They didn’t have any helmets, so I had to go to their other store near Holyrrood to pick up one but I met some really attractive male shop assistants there so it was worth it after all.

When my bike wheel broke a few months ago these lovely people with their amazing bike knowledge came to my rescue.
The staff have a lot of knowlege for the bikes they sell and the place is reasonably priced too.

Friendly staff, helpfull and caring try to get it done as fast as they can. Quick repairs and often very cheap. Full service for only £65. Near Pilrig Park and Leith Walk also easy to find. (Its the white building). More of a bike shop for city bikes rather than BMX bikes but they will/​do fix/​sell them for pretty good prices.
