I’m a bit stuck in a lunch time rut. There’s a couple of cafes in Leith I usually go to get some soup and bread for lunch, but sometimes you just want something different. Today was one of those days so I wandered in to Number 1 Sandwich Bar. I’ve been here a couple of times and it is usually very busy on lunch time, which is a good sign. So far I’ve only tried their Chinese noodle soup pots(£3.50 + 10p for additional chili oil) which are very tasty. You can have one with chicken, roast pork or vegetables. I had the chicken one. The small pot was filled to the brim with noodles(super noodles but still tasty) and chicken. It was delicious, exactly what I needed on a miserable rainy February afternoon! Number 1 Sandwich Bar do a large variety of other foods: the usual soups, baked potatoes, burgers, toasties, salad boxes — what ever you fancy it’s likely to be on the menu.

With three or four sandwich bars to choose from within a stones throw of each other, this place manages to stay pretty busy. The prices are reasonable and Wed-Fri they do a tasty noodle soup pot. Yes, it’s super noodle noodles but the broth and meat is their own concoction and with a little chilli oil it’s well tasty! All the usual sandwich filling options and a large range of buns and rolls. Give it a go if you’re in the area and after a quick bite to go!
