Tailor Stop

I walk past Tailor Stop pretty much daily on the way home from work but up till last week I had never been in. I realised while unpacking that I had a coat that I’d moved house with at least twice and not worn as it needed new buttons. I’d always intended on doing it myself but never quite go round to it and it’s a beautiful winter coat.
The shop is tiny and full of clothes hanging from everywhere. The lady was friendly and asked a couple of questions before pining a cloakroom ticket to my jacket and checking when I needed it by. They do same day alterations if needed but as I’d lived without it for a year I figured that an extra day wasn’t going to make much different.
The buttons have been sewn on well as far as I can tell and it was a very reasonable £4.50 to replace 3 buttons and sew a fourth to the inside of the coat. I’m planning on coming back with jeans that need shorting soon and from seeing other customers come in they can easily deal with more complex tailoring requirements.

I had a true emergency alteration need… a repair needing doing within 24 hours. Done and dusted within an hour for £7 having done great work and even reinforced another area on the jacket needing attention for no extra charge. So appreciated!

I keep going to this place with strange tailoring requests (usually to do with making custom work gloves) and they keep delivering.
I’ve also had some curtains shortened there and guess what? They came back shortened.

It’s always handy to know a good alterations place, and if you don’t alredy have a favourite then you could do a lot worse than here. In my case, it’s usually to help me out of those times when I buy something way too big just because it’s so gorgeous and on sale, only to get home and realise that no amount of safety pinning is ever going to make it look good on. And not being an artsy-​craftsy type, I definitely don’t alter things myself.
Although Stitch Master just along the street is much cheaper, Tailor Stop is specifically a clothing alterations place rather than a generic ‘anything that’s sewable’ place. My stuff was ready the next day, so I can’t fault the efficiency of it, but I only gave it 4 stars as there’s no getting around the fact that it’s a bit pricey. Paying almost £10 just to get the straps on a dress shortened was a bit annoying. If only I’d paid attention when they were teaching us how to sew at school. I’d be loaded by now.
