Xavia supporting Amoriste @ Electric Circus, Market street, Edinburgh. Sat 26÷3÷2011 I arrived in time to catch Xavia sing their first and final song of the night. Well, it was a good song, and this was my experience of it: Two of the front members wore military jackets which is of course hot. They started up and I found I was enjoying them, not sure yet who they were. They have an unmissable drummer, who bangs the hell out of his drums from the moment he begins. Keyboard player is a slim guy in the front who treads the floor quite heavily with the beat, a trait that cost them the remainder of their gig. A drink behind the guy tippled and splashed onto their equipment, causing a failure from which they could not be redeemed. After only one song, they had to leave the stage. Pity. But in return for our efforts at traipsing along to the venue that night, we are offered free tickets to their next show. Satisfied with the deal, I go out for a smoke break and to wait for the band Amoriste to take the stage. Someone is ambling on outside about how people dont come to gigs anymore, not young people anyway, she says. Well I dunno, looking around once back inside I noted at least a handful of young girls that could’ve made Kate Perry squeal, and some mean looking lads as well. Maybe that lady is going to see the wrong bands? Amoriste got up after my break to cheering and clapping in anticipation from the audience. I waited for it, but as they played on, and on, I found them notably less impressive than the support band I’d just heard. When the lead singer took off his jacket it picked it up a bit, but his fit young torso was not enough to carry the whole show for me, and I found myself bored soon again. Come on guys, its entertainment! Live a little. x
