The restaurant is as mixed as the other reviews suggest. On the one hand I ate a beautiful French onion soup followed by a wonderful venison steak with dauphinoise potatoes. I also like the way any wine can be ordered by the glass. On the other hand I hate paper table clothes and it is not cheap. At those prices the atmosphere feels too shabby and dated. Good food though.

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Beautiful South during my limited time in the Enfield area. I went here when I first moved. It was pretty awful. I heard such good things about it, but the food it seemed to let me down. However, several of our friends kept raving about it, so finally we decided to give it another try. It was actually quite good. Maybe we just had a bad experience(or two) the first few times, or maybe the food quality increased. I don’t know. The menu changes a bit. They do seem to have a few staples, but there are usually several things on the menu that I see every time I go. Also, I have to give props to anywhere that has wine from our favorite Lebanese winery. It’s definitely on our order every time we go. I recommend the mussels and chips and the venison. The soups are usually pretty good. One issue can sometimes be with large groups. They don’t always seem to be able to deal well with them, especially if they’re already fairly busy. Sometimes the quality seems to diminish when that is the situation. Otherwise, it’s definitely on our Enfield staple list. At least for now!

Avoid the apple crumble dessert. It looks like a sand pit… and tastes like one :( Apart from that the food was good local quality. I went with a large group and I think they were under pressure when it came to service.
