The grimmest pub ever? Hardly. Okay, so the George isn’t exactly stunning and some of the locals look like they’d rather bum a cigarette off you than know your name, but it’s not as if you’ll get your head weaved into the carpet by simply entering. With its dearth of seating, there’s little to do in this bland, threadbare booze-pit than stand and talk nonsense until logic gets the better of you and you leave. Well, you can watch the dog scamper around behind the bar I suppose. It’s a shame he can’t collect glasses or pour pints. If he did they’d be able to charge a quid on the door.

Oh my God this is one of the grimmest pubs ever! There is only one other in my mind which has been worse and that is the Queens Head on Park Road, I shall venture to see if that one is still open because it was certainly an experience. The George Hotel in the heart of Gartson village is just depressing. Closed down several times in recent years the place is like a monster or villain at the end of a really bad movie. It just does not know when to die and looking at some of the punters much the same can be said about them. I’m not even going to try and find some sort of shining light in the cheap prices or tv screens for the football lest some unfortunate soul takes it as a go ahead to enter on my say so.
