Came here for my mums birthday and cannot fault it. Starters were amazing followed by a beastly portion of fish and chips. The small vinegar spray topped it off

Excellent, freshly made dishes. Brilliant service and overall a really nice atmosphere. Good range of starters and mains, wine list was decent too. Some tasty desserts too and importantly superb coffee! Great place!

We’d been waiting for this place to open for a while and then totally forgot about it(whoops) but we were in the area visiting family so we thought we’d pop in for a quick bite before heading over. The interior is lovely, super sleek but cozy at the same time. The space is utilized quite well. There are window seats, booths and seating upstairs. The raw seafood is on display quite beautifully downstairs and my daughter ogled at it for a while lol. We had the prawn tempura with sweet chili dip, Cullen skink, kids chicken goujons(sp?) and the gourmet haddock fish and chips. The prawn tempura was delish, but a tad bit oily. Cullen skink was mmmm yummy and came with 2 generous slices of bread, which was nice and soft. My daughter loved it! Chicken goujons were ok, if a bit bland. And lastly, the fish and chips — so good! It came with a fancy spray bottle of vinegar and a mini salad. Salad wasn’t that great and unnecessary in my opinion but it’s an upscale fish and chips so I understand why they feel the need to include it. The fish was brilliant and chips were good. Oh we also got the mushy peas on the side. I didn’t like them at all! Don’t bother. Also, the owner came over to us and chatted for a while, explaining what sets them apart and educated us on cuts of fish. I thought that was lovely! Overall, service was great and accommodating. We’ll be back. oh and the chicken is halal!

It’s only a chippy, but it’s a damn stylish one. Downstairs has the fryer and counter, but also booths with comfy seats, and upstairs is a smart mezzanine. It operates as a takeaway and a restaurant, but it definitely fits into the Old Salty’s/Chippy Doon The Lane category. The fare on offer includes scallops, langoustines and lobster, including the newly ubiquitous Mac N’ Cheese with Lobster, along with all of your usual chippy faves. I went for the scallops with black pudding and herb breadcrumbs, and for a cod supper main. The first thing I would say is service wasn’t the fastest when we were there, but we weren’t in a rush anyway. The scallops came in the shell, I really like that, with just a thin layer of black pudding underneath, meaning that the scallop would be the star of the show. They were just ever so slightly overcooked for me, not quite as meaty and springy as they can be, but they were still close to perfection. The cod and chips were really good too. The twice-cooked chips were big, chunky and fluffy, and better than you would ever expect out of a takeaway, and the cod was perfectly cooked, although my partner thought hers was a bit too flaky. The cod came with their own tartare sauce… nice, and vinegar in a vapouriser which given my love of vinegar was a bit pointless. We had a bottle of vinegar on the table and that doesn’t require a couple of minutes of skooshing. I skooshed anyway, when in Rome and all that. The fish had a nice batter too, but I would have liked a slightly bigger piece, although I always say that. It’s difficult to give a chippy a five, and in this case I think with a couple of minor niggles a high four seems about right. Well worth a visit I reckon.

waited 40 minutes for order. 2nd fish suppers, sausage supper and chips with mushy peas. One of our party was coeliac, so asked about gluten free option. was told that batter could be gluten-free, but food was fried in same oil as gluten batter — ergo, NOT gluten free. so he opted for chips alone. The food was atrocious. Mushy peas were disgusting, might as well have eaten a spoonful of sodium bicarb. The fish were both overcooked. The chips were over cooked at too low a temp, and thus were hard and barely edible. We had complained about the long wait for food, family members of staff got orders before us, despite ordering afterward. Girl on till was arrogant and dismissive of complaints. And, finally.. Our chips were not gluten free. Our coeliac member became ill for 24 hours after eating. Hence there must be sloppy working practices and cross contamination of food. NEVER eat there if you have an allergy. It is a shame, as the décor is good — but the food and staff are appalling. It is also more expensive than any other local chip shop, despite ALL other local chip shops having better food, and better staff. AVOID!!!

Big disappointment that they don’t do the langoustine tails for takeaway so settled for cod and chips snd mac n cheese. The fish was ok but small portions, Mac n cheese not that cheesy. Chips were the best thing. Takeaway menu needs to improve for it to stand out from other chippies

OK, but not worth 30 mins wait for a takeaway. In their defence, the food is cooked to order and the restaurant was busy, but it was 8 o’clock and I was hungry! High point was the tempura king prawn was lovely. The haggis was also good quality but didn’t have enough crunch batter. The chips were very disappointing, there are other local chip shops who can make much better. Despite being asked 4 times if I wanted salt and vinegar and answering yes each time, I got no vinegar and far too much salt. Will be happy to try the restaurant, but will go back to my usual reliable chippy for takeaway.

For months I’ve been stalking Catch. Like a cat. A really, really hungry cat. This place promises so much with its delicious sounding menu and I was so excited for it opening that I made plans to visit at 1.30pm on their opening day when they only opened at midday. I was KEEN, ok?! In the site of Bradfords, this place took a long time to open. I really wanted delicious fish n chips so I won’t lie, I was a little impatient about the whole construction/refit thing. As I walked in I was impressed — it’s very sleek and stylish, not dissimilar from the stylings of Old Salty’s in Finnieston. We ended up being seated upstairs in the mezzanine area which is really nice, and an excellent use of the space. The eat in menu is pretty damn pricey — this is fancy fish n chips, after all. I decided to go full-out-ridiculous ordering and got the gourmet scampi made from langoustine tails at £12. I asked for gluten free batter(a big selling point of theirs) which was easily accommodated. My lunching pal had asked for sweet potato fries but these aren’t available yet, the waitress was really apologetic about that which was nice. The food is presented on a silver tray which adds to the glamour, and comes with a portion of fries, a fancy side salad and tartar. The scampi were really nice — lovely and fresh, and the batter was great but overall I’d say it was lacking in flavour. I think perhaps the batter needs refining and I’m not sure if it’s just because I got GF but I felt like it was so crunchy that you really didn’t get the taste of the langoustine through. Nice chips, not the best ones I’ve had as they were a little soft but nothing to complain about. The waitress mentioned that they do endless chips eat in which is pretty ridiculous — I’m going to be moving in soon with an offer like that. We ordered cups of tea when we finished eating but these were crazy strong and didn’t come with sugar so I couldn’t drink mine. No biggie as these are all just teething problems I’m sure. Overall, I really liked this place. I like that they’re an interesting chippy, doing something a bit more flash and upmarket. I can’t wait to try the takeaway as prices are more reasonable than the dine in service(takeaway gourmet scampi is £8.70 with chips, so a good saving!). Service was perhaps overly formal for a chippy but again, this could be first day nerves. My friend was asked when she walked in whether she was meeting her mother which was a pretty strange question I thought, but it gave us a good laugh all the same. I’ll be back. Maybe tomorrow. Just kidding. Or am I?! Tip: flip over your menu for a fun colouring and activity sheet on the back for kids. Or immature adults.
