Anderston Railway Station

Anderston is possibly the coldest station on the planet. It’s just after Glasgow Central on the Glasgow Central Low Level line, and it’s a handy station for getting to Finnieston, Charing Cross or Sauchiehall Street. It just so happens to be so damn cold all the time, because it’s sort of outside but sort of inside a damp, wet tunnel.
The staff here are always lovely, and there’s barriers so no free trains unfortunately! The stairs are also tiled, so have a wee look out if it’s been raining because the amount of people I’ve seen fall at Anderston is ridiculous!

Anderston is one of these few stations that is completely closed on a Sunday, giving it a real ‘ghost station’ feel. It is completely underground and with all the lights switched off and only its nameboards just visible in the gloom, most passengers will probably get a shiver up their spine as they pass through it. With its dark tunnels at each end as well, it reminds me of that ghost train scene on the subway in Ghostbusters 2.
A nuisance as this is, the station is well-​used on other days, as it is handy for the lower area of Charing Cross and the offices in Argyle Street. Trains run westwards to Milngavie and Dalmuir, and eastwards to Glasgow Central, Motherwell and Lanark.
Like the almost identical Glasgow Central low level and Argyle Street stations, Anderston is a bit dank and dreary, as though it’s been left behind from the era of steam trains. There is a very frequent service though at least — roughly every 10 minutes.
