I like this Art Store because whenever I went in, they assumed that I was an artist. It doesn’t get busy like the other store, it has a big enough range of materials, although with less of the novelty items that fill the main branch. The pen selection is my favourite: even if I only use them to scribble down notes on the back of beer mats, I like to have a good pen with a nice ink flow. Here, I can get all sorts of colours as well. It is a serious shop, and ideal for the working artist: it has knowledgeable staff– like the main branch– but who also have time to give advice.

My boyfriend modelled is his moustache on the gentleman who works here, and for that reason I hold it aloft as a beacon of inspiration for us all. It is small and quiet, with a good selection of pens, paint, paper, folios; all that you need to be a bonafide artist really, but as Liz says, on the small scale. A Co-Op to the great Tescos I think.

A smaller branch than the one on Queen Street, this Art Store is evidently tailored more to the needs of the Art School students. Not to put too fine a point on it, I am a crap artist, but it pleases me to come in here and imagine what could have been if I had any talent at all. To be honest, unless you are actually at the School of Art, or happen to be passing by here, the Queen Street store is easily better for a bigger selection and more mainstream stuff for novices like me.
