It was a few years ago, I must admit, when I was recommended to visit Bar 67. My pal Wiilie and myself, were up for a day in Glasgow. We were both in our sixties by the way. Both up from Ayr, we specifically made our way out to the bar from Central station. There's no missing Bar 67, and clearly it was a Celtic pub. We went in and I went to the bar to order the drinks. After serving the drinks, to my disbelief, the young barmaid asked us to remove our poppies. It must have been late October/early November. She explained that the pub was an anti war establishment. Well, neither my pal or me are pro war, far from it. We drank up and left. We headed up into Glasgow, but stepped into the "Tollbooth", which is also a Celtic pub. The welcome was warm, the service good and the prices the cheapest I've known. We mentioned the incident in Bar 67, to the company we joined. They were offended to a man. The poppy acts purely as a symbol of remembrance to those who gave their lives so we can live in the freedom we enjoy. The proceedings, from the poppy sales, go towards charities, which are there to help servicemen and women, injured while fighting for us. The same service men and women, who would have fought for the right of the young lady in Bar 67 to deny us the right to wear a poppy in her establishment. My suggestion, give Bar 67 a miss and head for the "Tollbooth".
