Ok i know its a chain(if only a wee small one) but there is something about the Beanscence that exudes a laid back feel much more than any of its competition. Its the chain that looks like a chain but feel more like and independant… if that makes any sense at all. This one located in Cresswell lane hits all the marks for a good place to grab a coffee and a muffin… mmmmm…muffin… with its trendy alleyway feel, buzzing atmosphere and big comfy couches, this is as good a place as anywhere in this area to grab a caffeine hit. Ok so the grub is a little pricey, however they do have a few specials that lighten the«I’ve just been robbed» feel a little. One gripe though… free wifi yes, but only for an hour??? boo i says.

This branch of Beanscene is one of the best in the city(I wouldn’t venture to the one on Dumbarton Rd, pretty poor), however I feel its a little too mainstream for Cresswell Lane. This Beanscene though has plenty of seating and is very child/hangover friendly. If your looking for a middle of the road coffee shop with a relaxed atmosphere then this is the place. They are also currently offering 241 on Pizzas after 5pm, somewhat of a bargain in this neck of the woods! A little disheartened this morning when walking past and noticed a couple of «No busking please» signings hanging in a few of the businesses around Beanscene. Poor considering it is the West End after all. Nevertheless, they do have a regular open mic night so worth a stop in for a coffee on occasion

Packed with students and mums during the day, at night Beanscene is, well, packed with students and mums. Representing a healthier inbetween lecture option than the Union or a pub, Beanscene’s popularity can be put down in part to its closeby proximity to Glasgow University, as well as the comfy, living room vibe it exudes. The wifi helps, as does its location in Cresswell Lane which gives it a kind of bohemian feel, as far as newcomers to the city are concerned anyway. Others are fully aware than Beanscenes are fairly generic across Glasgow, and also that the food is over-priced and bland. In saying that, it’s undoubtedly a handy resource for the area and remains a place that most Westenders will nip into from time to time when they have half an hour to kill.

Beanscene is an excellent small chain of coffee houses. The Glasgow West End location is on Cresswell Lane, one of those great cobblestone passages. Just near enough to be close to the buzz, but far enough away from the noise of the ever-busy Ashton Lane, it’s all you need and more. It’s a great place to relax outside on a sunny day, or chill indoors on their cosy leather couches. Food is available throughout the day, with paninis and sandwiches during the day, and a small menu including pizza and nachos in the evening. The music never fails to complement the laid-back atmosphere and your soon-acquired coffee buzz, whether it’s a favourite or something you’ve never heard before. Evenings also bring the option of bring a bottle. If you purchase food and pay a small corkage fee(something like £2 per bottle of wine and 50p for a beer), you can enjoy your own glass of vino or bottle of lager in the comfort of their establishment. If that wasn’t enough, they also provide free, secured wifi at all locations. If you’re looking for the familiar coffee experience without the corporate glitz, Beanscene is the perfect spot.

This coffee shop is convieniently located in the hub of the west end in the cute cobbled Cresswell Lane(along from Ashton Lane). It’s a great place for a coffee, a comfy sofa and a natter. Popular with students and young mums this coffee shop is littered with pushchairs and laptops. The coffee is good, the food is fine(typical selection of paninis, muffins etc), it’s open late and there’s wi fi. This Beanscene is usually lively; known as a ‘Coffee and Music House’ the music is often played a little too loud for my liking –when it’s busy you’ll find yourself having to raise your voice over the music and crying bubs. However, if unlike me you’re not old before your time, head on down. I recommend the Chai– and always go for a Large or you’ll regret it every time.

Love Beanscene as opposed to the evil that is Starbucks. Really good menu and reasonably priced. They introduced me to the combination of goat’s cheese and sweet chilli sauce and for this I’ll be forever in their debt. Family friendly too — bonus!

This is a great, family friendly coffee bar. They do great coffee and cakes as well as good lunch/dinner food including soup, nachos, panninia and sandwiches. The prices are good and evrything is much better than Starbucks! They do a lovely little meal deal for kids which my three year old loves and there is a selection of little toys to keep the kids amused. It’s is flat and open inside so its also an easy place to bring the pushchair or pram if you have babies. The atmosphere is nice and busy and the music is always at just the right level so that you don’t need to strain to hear it but it doesn’t drown out your conversation. I’d recommend this place as worth a visit if you’re in the vicinity of Byres Road.

Don’t go to the cramped, dull(in more ways than one) branch of Starbucks on Byres Road: go round the corner to Cresswell Lane, which runs on from Ashton Lane, parallel to Byers Road itself. There you will find: a good selection of better drinks, Beanscene’s coffee is richer and stronger and much more delicious than the Starbucks frothy fare. Better selection of food, cakes and sandwiches with the addition of panninies, huge plates of nachos and mouth-watering pizzas. This place also has much more atmosphere and more going on, it can be loud and busy, quite a popular place for families which is one on the reasons I go as it it’s very family friendly. But once you place an order you can grab a table and they bring your drink or food to you. They also have free wi-fi.

Another great place on Cresswell lane, which is the otherside to ashton lane and great goeorge lane, with the university street inbetween. the fairy lights and dreamy cobbled lane continues, with more exciting and amazing places, including this beanscene. Its a surprise that this place could fit in so well, but their ideals are just right. You would think it would be privatly run small buisneses that work on these little lanes. this beanscenes interior is great, with old wodden school chairs, and funny cups and saucers. There are stunning comfy leather sofa’s and a chest full of board games! The lighting is low and moody and on a cold day its a great place to while away some more time, if you sstill have time left after all the incredible little places on this lane and ashton lane! They serves some good food, and their cakes are great. You can even bring your own bottle of wine, paying a little bit for use of glasses. this seems to fit in well in the area, and gets full marks.
