This place is a little gem in Glasgow’s Merchant city. Really close walk to and from Queen Street train station too. The outside décor looks very inviting. All the lights and purple outside wall painting allures you to come in. It was indeed dark when we arrived and this place on the corner really stood out. It’s a wine bar and the selection is quite good. They offer several wine glass sizes, starting with 125ml. My friend opted for a Malbec, which tasted really nice compared to another Italian red wine that she tasted. Well, it was quite a young one, 2014. I had a gin tonic that was served in a high glass, tick. They also offer an array of cocktails and I saw a few couples slurping their well prepared Cocktails. It’s a real small place, but it’s amazingly cozy and perfect for FIRSTDATES(a few more maybe ;-)). If you ever get a chance to sit in one of their well decorated booths, please do. Well, the seating can be more comfortable, but you will survive :-) As it is so small and pretty packed with chairs and tables, I started to wonder about this young good looking musician how he planned to perform his music act. Ahhh, here to the solution. Apparently, above the entrance door there is a hidden niche that holds a piano and microphone for all the live performing musicians. Must say, I was quite impressed by the idea on how to use this place to its utmost purpose. Sure, I also liked the performance of the musician! There are toilets, indeed! The waitress on occasion was a bit slow. Think they need more people, even on a Sunday night. They had run out of one of their nibbles. Still, the little food they offer is quite delicious. I had the Salami. I was also amazed by the bar tender who could shake the Cocktails very well. Can’t believe that’s an easy job and needs lots of skill. There is also a back door that leads to the merchant Hall and quite a good escape route in case you are on a bad date ;-) Have fun. I will be back!

I love this little wine bar and go fairly regularly. It has a lovely, cosy atmosphere — I really enjoy sitting in the half moon shaped booths and always try to get a booth if it’s available. The music is usually great too. They have an extensive wine list and quite a large selection of glasses to order by the glass — I usually order by the bottle though, to be honest! The staff are always chatty and remember you. The service can sometimes be a bit slower than you would expect but it’s a nice, unobtrusive service but with someone always available if you need them. I have had the cheese board a couple of times which is great to go alongside the wine. They do other bar snacks but it’s all things that can be prepared by the bar staff behind the bar area.

I’m a sucker for wine bars as both a place to kill time before gigs, kill time before trains, get work done on my laptop or kill time before bed-time or just to — I dunno — drink wine. There is a healthy selection of by-the-glass wines and some decent enough bar-space so you can chat with the bartenders if you wish.(Although sadly they’re not all that geared up/prepared for banter — at least on the night I was there, which diminishes the experience somewhat as a solo drinker!). I can easily see me dragging a date here for a slightly classier and casual bookmark to an evening. It’s quiet enough and it’s pleasantly lit — with a drinking partner I could justify a bottle of one of the better wines(although you’d best know what you want because the staff I chatted to didn’t seem to know much more about the wines than basic tasting notes). On the casual nature of the place — every city needs something like this; relaxed and intimate with a good wine selection(and cocktail menu) but not over the top with itself(I suspect the cocktails are equally as casual so don’t go expecting miracles — I’ll be back to try them though)

We nipped in here fora quick drink while we waited on the next train. Staff were friendly and efficient. Our hot drinks tasted great and the wine was reasonably priced. We didn’t get a chance to try cocktails this time around but plan to work our way through them on our next visit.

I just realised, a place I frequent on a weekly basis & I’ve never reviewed it! OMG! Well. Correcting that now… I love this wee place. It’s had a refurb over the past few months and the entrance moved to the corner, to make more room. It can be tricky getting a table, as its a little awkward in its layout. I think it would still benefit from having a professional designer come in and advise on how to make better use of the space to accommodate more folk. Staff are always chirpy and cheery. Like every good wine bar should be! Don’t worry, they do some lovely beers, including West Beer(my favourite!). We’ve often asked for recommendations and they are spot on everytime. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice and say what kind of mood you are in. If you’re having a nibble of food, ask what will go nice with it. Its a pretty diverse demographic of individual that frequents here. Don’t expect toffee nosed wino snobs uttering Peach, Hickory, Dustbin lol. From early twenties to pensioners, this place welcomes anyone who wants to meet and socialise in a civilised manner and enjoy a beer, or learn something about wine you didn’t know before. It really is that relaxed. You Have To Get WINEHERENOW! :-D

This wee wine bar is actually a bit bigger than I expected — there’s a good seating area towards the Merchant Square exit which I’d highly recommend, as you feel like you’re in your own private bar with your pals with all the perks of being in a bar(e.g. someone else bringing the drinks). There’s an impressive wine list that doesn’t just cater to wine drinkers which is always good to see — I opted for a non-alcoholic mojito. Before you ask, no, I’m not pregnant, I’ve just been eating a lot recently(and I was driving). £3.50 for a mocktail isn’t bad and while it was a bit slow on arrival(service was slow all night, but I’m not sure you can complain on a Friday night when the bar is packed) the drink itself was delicious. I believe they also do wine flights which I’d head back for as I love being able to sample a few different wines. For a first visit, this place was pretty impressive and I’ll definitely be heading here for a spin of the wine list soon.

I’ve been living in the Merchant City for over a decade, so wandering around we discovered this little cocktail lounge had sprung into existence as if by magic. It is quite small, so may suffer if it gets busy or if you’re in a large group, however we were in on a Saturday night and it was quiet, but not dead by any means. The décor hits you straight away as something from a lap dancing club, not that I’d know of course. Considering the name, this is probably what they were going for. I’m no expert in cocktails, so can’t give you any more details other than my own humble opinion, which is that they were good, priced between 4.50 — 6.00, and did the trick. The staff were helpful and table service is always appreciated. Again, I’m no expert on cocktail bars, but this one is enjoyable for a group of cocktail novices. Unfortunately I can’t remember the names of any note worthy concoctions, so you’ll just have to try them all for yourself.
