Shamefully, after years of dining in Antipasti and popping in here loads, I didn’t actually connect the two together. I know, it’s awful. However, the fact still remains that this is a lovely little shop. The fact it’s inside a low and long cottage on Clarkston Road makes it even better! It stands out from the flats, newsagents and garages around it. Inside, the layout really uses the space well and without making it feel cluttered or claustrophobic. Instead, there’s a nice, chilled out arty feel to it and the pieces are displayed in a very natural looking way. I suspect, this is part of the reason it does so well. You notice some lovely — but unnecessary — cutlery placed about. Next thing you know it’s in your kitchen. Though, for some reason my kitchen still looks like my kitchen. It didn’t magically transform into a sunny, country kitchen with bread baking in the oven. Maybe, if I get the matching salad forks…

Paul Hodgkiss is the designer behind many of the hotspots in Glasgow, for example, Monkey Bar, Bouzy Rouge, Café Antipasti and Bar Bola. Working with wood, the distinctive Hodgkiss trademark design is easy to spot. Bumblebee @ Paul Hodgkiss Designs is a beautiful little sandstone cottage with stunning oak-finished interior. This cute shop sells quirky home accessories, gifts and toys that are really unusual. If you like things that are a little bit different then this is the place for you. Handmade cushions, teatowels and vases are just some of the wares you will find in this magical cottage. I’ve bought a few birthday presents for friends from here, including a beautiful silver bracelet with semi-precious stones for only £20. Most pieces of jewellery are one-offs so won’t be found anywhere else. They do also stock more well known jewellery such as Azuni which you will find in Jewellers in Princes Square and Argylle Arcade. This shop is definitely worth a visit even just to marvel at its’ beauty, it really is something special both inside and out.
