After seeing people making sushi during a masterclass last week, my sister and I were insanely craving sushi and looking for somewhere that was good value for food as a takeaway. It is small but lovely inside with a couple of tables for sit-in. We got half a Tiger roll and Maki box(crispy duck roll, california roll and avocado maki) for us both which came with miso soup too.(Around £13) It had been awhile since I had sushi and this totally did the trick. For those that don’t like sushi, there were noodle/ramen options too. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the sushi but definitely could have eaten more! Good for a quick sushi fix when needed and an alternative to your sit-in options in Glasgow(which can be pricey).

I really enjoy the sushi from here It’s a tiny place but still squeezes in some Tables to you can sit and enjoy a bento box and some bbt The bubble tea however isn’t the greatest, just as well the sushi is up to scratch You can pick from their fridge selection should you want a quick take out or indeed order and the magical sushi God in the basement sends up his worldly delights freshly made Parking can be an Issue around the place however it’s worth visiting if you love sushi

I’ve been wanting to try this for a while, and stumbled upon it while wandering about the neighborhood. After a bit of a disaster trying to find out what was gluten free(I finally had to grab a bottle of gluten free soy sauce off the shelf, explain that I needed this, and I think one person translated the phrase on her phone before I got nods of understanding and an explanation of what was safe.) I ordered a little tuna roll and and a big salmon and avocado roll, which totaled less than 9 quid. As others have mentioned, I saw them take the packaged sushi out of the fridge, so it’s not made to order. However, it’s quite nice! I enjoyed it and it was quite a lot of sushi for the price. They do have gluten free soy sauce available if you dine in. It’s a great option for simple and inexpensive sushi. I’ll be back!

To be honest, I’d probably be at Cailin’s every single day if it were 2 minutes away from my place! Wouldn’t be able to resist! Okay so the new place in Finnieston has gotten a face lift and looks pretty good, the partner and I decided to go for some cheap sushi after a round of tennis(to save a wee bit of £). So why not try Cailin’s! We were starving so decided to try the party set for 3 people! You get 56 pieces of sushi for £32(I think? It was relatively cheap, I remember that!). It included salmon nigiri, different types of maki, all kinds! And I was SO happy to get this party set just for me and Gian hahaha EATITALL #pigout The sushi was alright though the girl DID take like literally all of it from the refrigerator next to the cashier. I assumed it was gonna be made fresh to I order! But it’s ok. I did see her bring out fresh specialty sushi for a couple who ordered before us, so next time I’ll try those. Sushi wise, it was decent! Not bad at all for the cheap price! I’d definitely go back for one affordable takeaway sushi. Def recommend if you want sushi but don’t want a hole in your wallet.

You know, having been in here before and having a pretty good experience, I suggested it to my boyfriend as we were out and about and hungry for lunch. I’m not so sure of my suggestion any more. My last experience was of fast and fresh sushi all being brought out as it was being made. This experience, it seemed like everything was pre-packaged even down to the sushi that was brought out in plastic wrap and we were made to unwrap the sushi ourselves. I didn’t like that at all and was almost reluctant to eat it. The one girl who was working, seemed a little confused and slow and wasn’t quite sure of what I was wanting when I was ordering. We ordered Edamame(which were frozen and microwaved– she opened the bag in front of us and told us the amount of time it would take to make them), and various sushi and hand rolls. The only things we ordered that we knew were fresh were the seaweed hand rolls as they actually had to be made when we ordered them. Not the best experience when we’ve been other places that offer fresh to order sushi an my boyfriend has been to Japan numerous times. I might go so far to say that I’d probably suggest going some place else the next time we want sushi.

Cailin’s sushi makes great sushi, no questions asked. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and I was especially surprised when they were still really friendly when we came in quite close to their closing hour(fellow Unilocalers and I indulged in a late night sushi snack following drinks). The chef even let us try the potatoes he made for himself and the staff as dinner, and they were very tasty. The lovely thing about coming here so late at night was that we were offered sushi to take away for half price! Of course, we all indulged. I think we flustered the girl a little bit because you get two pieces of sushi(which are individually wrapped, which I find really rather strange and rather off-putting) as one and we only picked up one, obviously because it being so late there wasn’t a huge selection left and we had to pick carefully. Although even generally I felt the poor girl was a little flustered with having to take orders and wait on people rather than dealing with the usual take-away orders. One thing, the edamame came out late(I’m not even judging on that seeing as we were quite late and that they all wanted to have their own dinners), but for me they just weren’t salty enough! On an aside, Cailin is actually the owner and she is currently on maternity leave to have a baby! Good luck Cailin! Also, my phone had given up on life at this point and so I cannot supply pictures unfortunately. Lastly, I think I would recommend ordering take-away sushi rather than dining in.

This was our second attempt at decent sushi in Glasgow. The first was Nippon Kitchen. It had some decent rolls but not really what we were looking for. Also getting sushi in individual packaging is really really really weird. It really degrades the whole experience of sushi(at least for me it does). Also everything is extra and we had to ask for the chopsticks. We also didn’t get soy sauce with our sushi. The place is teeny and do not expect a seat if you have more than two groups in the place.

I had heard of here but wasn’t entirely sure whereabouts it was until my man and I stumbled upon it when looking for a bite to eat for dinner. It’s much smaller than I thought and seats about 8, possibly 9 at a push. It mostly deals with take away orders which we found to be very popular. If you fancy going as a small group I would probably book ahead. The girl who was serving us was rushed off her feet so kept apologising but we were in no rush and to be honest we didn’t need to wait long. We ordered a bento box each, I had Chicken Teriyaki and my man had Chicken Curry. The bento boxes came in plastic sectioned trays and the sushi is all individually wrapped in sets of two. They keep all the sushi in an open fridge. The girl was constantly at the fridge as she made up many deliveries from there. So I guess for ease they keep all sushi maki type sushis wrapped up. If you want any other sushi’s they will make up fresh for you. We both found our chicken dishes sauces very watery and I found the chicken texture a little strange, maybe a cheap cut. Who knows?! It still tasted alright and replenished my stomach well. I did find the sushi maki was smaller but cheaper, so not as much filling probably helping to lower the cost. It still was flavoursome and I would go back. The girl did forget our miso soup but made it up with more sushi maki when she realised. They also do sushi boxes from £3.75 and also party boxes which is made up of loads of sushi ranging from £19.99. I think it would be a great idea to have some boxes or a party box and have some sushi in Kelvingrove, which is literally round the corner. If the nice weather keeps up a wee trip could be coming soon.

After an afternoon of surprise birthday hangover Olympics in Kelvingrove Park, the two«German» Olympians were seeking some healthy sustenance. Having participated in such strenuous events like the«hurl a massive column wax candle», «schwing zee sausage», «pin the torch on the Olympian», «beat the goalie», and an obstacle course, they needed some good olé protein… FISH! However, lacking any energy and motivation, it was all about, «Why can’t we order in like that place in Munich?»(Note: we really did order in sushi while we were in Munich, and it was effin delicious) *LIGHTBULB* The other day while we were driving through Finnieston, I noticed a wee shop next to the Korean restaurant Shilla, a «newish» sushi bar/takeaway called Cailin’s Sushi. I took a mental note of this for future reference. While I may whinge about the Japanese food in Glasgow, Nanakusa has always been my go-to anytime I’m jonesin’ for some sushi or a bento. Though my only gripe is that it can get quite pricey for the quality, though the quality actually surpasses that of YO! Sushi, Oko, Wudon, Ichiban, Wagamama, etc. On this occasion, my «German» teammate confirmed that Cailin’s delivered and their offering was immense… nigiri, gunkan, hand rolls, hoso maki, futomaki, special rolls, sashimi, noodles, rice dishes, bento boxes, various sushi boxes, and desserts. My eyes were bigger than my stomach, and I ultimately ordered more that I could eat… seabass nigiri, mackerel nigiri, grilled eel hand roll, and a full spicy tuna roll. My teammate had the crispy duck hand roll and chicken katsu curry. Delivery was swift, but not as lightening fast as Usain Bolt; 30 minutes is standard! When the food arrived, presentation was much nicer than I had expected or experienced(i.e. Home Wok’s sushi). The individually wrapped nigiri might be a little over the top, as they already come in a container. So I’m a bit confused as to how that adds to its«freshness»; if anything I think it’s slightly wasteful packaging? The food itself was fresh and flavourful, and the miso soup was delightful. I’m happy to report that the fish didn’t smell of ammonia or anything horrible(all good things). The only negative was the chicken katsu curry was already quite soggy, since the curry had been poured over the chicken prior to delivery. If the curry sauce were kept separately in transit, then my teammate would have been able to enjoy the crisp coating before the lashing of the silky curry sauce. While this probably wasn’t the best sushi of my life, Cailin’s does offer Glaswegians great value for food quality and price, especially when delivery is only £1.50. The £12.60 worth of sushi was enough to force me out of my Oktoberfest dirndl and Chuck Taylors combo, and into some stretchy yoga bottoms. Glasgow has a lot of catching up to do with regards to a good representation of more diverse ethnic cuisines like the other cosmopolitan cities around the world(*cough* NYC, Chicago, LA, Seattle, San Francisco…). With Cailin’s offering fresh sushi delivery to either your home or office, this is a refreshing option in a land that birthed the deep-fried Mars bar. Yummers.
