Campbell’s School and Riding Wear

I attempted to return a faulty school kilt (cost £68) which had gone bobbly after only 2 washes. I have never been treated with such contempt in all my life. I was told by an elderly male assistant that he would not replace the item under any circumstances. When I complained that the service was unacceptable his reply was «too bad if you are not happy». Most worryingly of all, he attempted to lock me in one of his shops whilst he attended to the other shop 2 doors along! This shop is a disgrace. This shop may be old fashioned but it lacks old fashioned values and customer service.

Oh wow, this place takes me back! I used to HATE being dragged here by my mother every year to get a new school blazer. Year after year I refused to wear the bloody thing because it was itchy and terribly uncool, especially in the hideous brown color of my primary schools uniform! The irony is that I recently purchased a blazer nearly identical to the one I used to wear to school off of ebay as I am quite fond of the geek chic look as an alternative to my 1950s ensembles. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if it was actually one of my old school blazers which has found its way back to me through the wonder of ebay!
Anyway, I digress. Campbell’s is as traditional as they come and everyone who works there looks as old as the store itself! I remember being terrified of these old ladies when I was little because they reminded me of that Roald Dahl book «The Witches». In hindsight however they were always very friendly and helpful. The store itself is incredibly dull when you’re little with its brown carpet, cream walls and rows upon rows of brown, navy and grey blazers, polo shirts, socks etc. I can’t wait to have kids and put them through this torture also! Mwah ha haaa!

Campbells has been on Victoria Road since the year dot, supplying top quality school, riding, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, Scouts and countless other uniforms for children. I have to admit, my visits here weren’t the most exciting but I guess getting a new school uniform isn’t exactly the highlight of anyones childhood.
It’s very traditional and everything here is extremely organised and regimented. The skilled and friendly staff measure all the customers with an old fashioned measuring tape to ensure everyone gets the perfect size. Inside it’s not the most glamorous and the colour scheme is a rather dull brown colour which isn’t the most inviting, but that doesn’t detract from the quality service here as Campbells are excellent at what they do and that is why they have been in business for as long as they have.

Primarily a supplier of school uniforms, Campbell’s is determinedly old fashioned and has occupied this corner for years beyond reckoning. They do a great range of riding wear, and everything for the child who attends Scouts or Guides. The assistants are wonderfully helpful, and if the clothes are exactly the sort of thing that every child hates– school uniforms, PE kit and the like, they will be taken there by parents who coo over how grown up they look.
