We’d left things a little late and were searching for an inexpensive dinner before heading to the cinema. In this case we very clearly had pub food in mind. The first couple of bars were so full that it was obvious we wouldn’t get a seat. The third bar we got a seat but were told there was an hour wait for food. Sometimes we have the worst luck. So, we decided to try a Wetherspoon’s. If Wetherspoon’s as a chain has anything going for it, it’s that it’s really well set up for dealing with busy nights. The food isn’t amazing but it’s quick. The drinks are inexpensive and there’s usually a huge variety of them. There are different offers on every night. They’re all about getting as many folk in through the doors as they can and then serving them quickly and cheaply. Really, that was what we wanted. It was busy, but not overly so and we didn’t have trouble getting a table. Turned out it was grill night — two items from the grill menu plus a bottle of wine for £20. Perfect. I ordered the sirloin which was served with chips, peas and a tomato, my other half ordered the half rack of ribs and chicken breast that was served with chips, onion rings and salad. We got a bottle of Shiraz. For £20 it was exactly what we were looking for, it was served quickly and my steak was actually rare which is always a treat. We ended up staying a little later than planned and nearly missed our show but that was because we were happy staying there, not because service was slow. It’s nothing out of the ordinary, this isn’t going to be the most amazing gourmet experience ever, it’s more cheap and cheerful. Realistically these bars are designed and run to a formula but there’s a reason that formula works. It’s not an exciting, inspiring, dynamic place to eat or drink, it’s just a pub. In our case that was just what we wanted. Given how close it is to the cinema, and how disorganised we are, we’ll probably end up back here more often.

The place was very busy when we stopped for some food before going to the cinema. available tables were sparce and it was like sharks circling the bait but eventually we got a table. I ordered the fish which was served with chips & peas. The fish itself was a decent size however a piece of it had been folded over prior to cooking and when I cut into it the batter was raw inside which put me right off the remainder of the meal. The portion of peas was measly. I would have returned the meal however my time was limited and I didn’t have time to wait with the sea of people at the bar. I’m not sure if I’d return.

Love this pub. Good food, good drink, great for a catch up with friends. No frills but everything you need for a good night.

Right under queen street station so great for travellers and shoppers. Prices really reasonable as is with all wetherspoons. Smaller than counting house across the road and more cosy

I’m not going to lie, I quite like this place. I’ve only been in here once before and was probably in a mood about life, but this time, with my boyfriend, meeting his sister for a drink while she was in town, I quite enjoyed myself. We only stayed for two drinks as we were off to dinner, but it was a great time, nonetheless. Loads of people about, enjoying life, and having a drink. A few people were having food as well, which was nice to see. I always like going in to pubs that serve food as well, because it’s not really heard of in the states. If you go in to a pub, you’re going for drinks, but here, you can sit down, have a pretty decent meal and enjoy drinks just the same. It’s right near the train station, so it makes for an easy stop before heading out of town, or just back in town. I’m sure we’ll be back at some point(if not to one of the many other wetherspoons locations)

No atmosphere at all in this Wetherspoon’s. I didn’t like the look of the food, I declined and just had a drink. My wife had soup. The soup was served 1.50pm today Tuesday the 29th October. It was obviously breakfast leftovers. Large chunks of pig(oops bacon). It was disgusting, greasy and the smell was awful. I payed £3.50 for a pint of Stella Artois, nice pint. They need to get a proper chef and not a Greasy spoon run of the mill cook. I was looking for a dog to give this soup to. The dog would have had trouble chewing it. I definitely won’t be back!

A nice wetherspoons, but just a wetherspoons nonetheless. We actually nipped in here to use the loo after a train journey involving too much rose/gin and stayed for a drink so we wouldn’t feel too guilty ;) Staff are friendly, décor is interesting. It’s quite dark and fairly moody looking but has a good friendly atmosphere. Also they stock Caorunn, one of my favourite gins, so a star to them for that! Would probably nip in here for a quick drink if waiting on a train rather than going to Bonapartes in future.

My first time in this Wetherspoons, and I found it pretty relaxing, so relaxing I found myself a little bitty drunk, after 2 bottles of house wine(one white, one rose) also 2JD’s ‘n coke. I think this was due to me not having a meal before I indulged in drinking. It wasn’t so busy for a Monday night I thought, even if the rain was persisting down at the time. The outside seating area was big enough for some privacy to talk and have a smoke, without getting in any ones way, yes, I think I could go back there again.
