This Clarks seems to have better prices than the rest. I don’t know if I believe that there are different prices for different stores, but this one always seems to have some of its sensible shoes on sale. Clarks is a sensible shoe shop at heart and always has been, but it really does offer pretty good service in terms of shoe shops. They have good quality shoes that are comfortable, usually for the quite old and quite young. But this is the only shoe shop I have been in that your foot gets measured to see if you are wearing the right size of shoes, I wasn’t? Wow, thanks Clarks Sauchiehall St.

There are few more enjoyable memories of being 5 years old than a trip to Clarks which involved getting my foot measured in their machine. It was a source of constant excitement and trepidation, and thus a trip to Clarks comes highly recommended if you’re only recently out of the womb. From an adults viewpoint however, Clarks is a fairly solid, dependable and dull shoe store. Their stuff isn’t exactly high fashion but it does the trick, and their presence on the High Street for several decades shows they’re doing something right.

Basing my review on my Dad’s recent experiences with Clarks, this place has gone downhill a great deal in recent years. It used to be, and may well still be, a great place to get kids shoes for school. They have those shoe-measuring machines that try to look non-threatening, either scaring the bejesus out of the kids or providing so much novelty that they’re disappointed that they only get to have each foot measured once. Clarks has always prided itself on having smart, well-tailored shoes for low prices. My dad recently went through a spell where all 4 of his pairs of Clarks shoes fell apart within a period of 1 and a half work weeks. While he took them back and managed to get a couple of gift certificates for his loss, he is really disappointed with the company now, especially since none of the pairs had been worn a great deal. Apparently prices have also risen lately and they have less selection in smaller sizes. It seems like Clarks has gone out of fashion with the new generation.
