Simple and perfect fish chippy for take home meals, mainly being reasonable price the fish tastes good and crispy as well.

Every time I visit my friend in Glasgow, I always have a fish supper or two from this place. It’s around the corner from his flat so very convenient. The suppers are are okay– they never put on enough brown sauce or vinegar even though I ask–(I’m a brown sauce junkie) but the fish is always fresh and the chips are never under-done so its always does well for a quick dinner. Not the best in the world but certainly far from awful!

I’m in Dennistoun quite a lot and there are lots of takeaways on Duke Street. I love fish and chips over and above most things in life though, and so a good Italian sounding Fish and Chip shop is top of my priorities. Claudio’s is far from the best chippy in the world, but it’s got a good menu with kiddie meals and a well stocked fridge with lots of different kinds of juice. The chips aren’t so spectacular, but the portions are pretty good. Fish suppers are dear these days, and they offer a small and large fish supper which is ideal. It’s either one or two slices and you can see in the hot plate how much you’re up for. The pizzas LOOK good, I have never tried them. Even with good intentions of getting something different, I always get a fish supper. It’s a nice enough wee chippy, clean and tidy. It can get a bit intimate at peak times as it is pretty tight in there. You can top up on coffee and other essentials too, but Duke Street has plenty of shops with products like that on offer. The reason you go to Claudio’s is for good old fashioned no nonsense Chip Shop food with hefty portions of salt and vinegar. Yum.

Claudios is a longstanding chip shop that has been on Duke Street for as long as I can remember. The very smell of it as you pass by is quite irresistible, and I find myself being drawn in for a «roll and chips with brown sauce and a pickle please», on my way home from work, all too often. This chippy is situated on a busy street, amongst many pubs and bookies and near to several schools, which means it’s always busy — and with good reason. The chips here are really good: not too greasy and with decent portions. They offer a good selection of snacks and drinks to accompany your chippy feast, including my chippy favourite: glass bottles of Irn Bru. This is a nice wee clean place, that is always busy, however service is quick, staff are friendly enough and are happy to make you a specific order of pizza or special fish, if you ask nicely.

Claudio’s is just round the corner from my house, making it frustratingly hard to resist. It’s a traditional chippie selling all the usual, but with some meal deals on the back wall as well. The décor is all very shiny and modern and it is take-away only, no seats. We came in and ordered a fish supper and a single sausage, but had to wait for fresh fish to be cooked. Result! I’d rather wait to ensure it’s all nice and fresh. I noticed a wee shelf above the till selling essentials such as coffee, sugar paracetamol etc, which is a brilliant idea. There is also the usual array of crisps, sweets and cans. The staff were all slightly neddy, but nice enough. Not exactly smiling or anything, but we got pleases and thank yous, which is enough for me. The girl serving looked like she had been severely Tangoed. She maybe spends too much time at the tanning salon across the road.
