Ok, I know that there’s good reason to complain about burger fatigue in Glasgow. However, to my mind, the reason there are so many burger places is because people like burgers. Burgers are great. Of course, not everywhere gets them right but you can’t blame places for trying. We tried Cova’s burgers last night. I got the gentle buffalo chicken burger. A large, tender chicken breast with pesto, mozzarella and salad that was delicious and just the perfect size. My partner got a beef burger with onion rings, barbeque sauce, cheese and bacon and said it was excellent. I asked to swap the standard side of fries for a house salad which was no problem and was fresh and crunchy but I must admit regretting this as the fries looked great. Cova is housed in a really nice building. Its interior is good looking with high ceilings and comfy booth-style seating. It would be a great place to bring a group of friends for burgers or cocktails after work. The bar is seriously well stocked and it’s one of the few places I know of in Glasgow that will sell spirits and liqueurs by the bottle. It’s also one of the few places that has a whole page of its drinks menu dedicated to tequila. Perhaps tequila is getting fashionable at last. I’d definitely come back to try the barbeque section of the menu, as well as the poutines. It looks like they rotate deals throughout the week, so if you keep an eye out you can probably get a good price on something most days. That said, it might be worth booking ahead — I was surprised at how busy it was on a random thursday evening. There was even a little awkwardness when we showed up as our waiter asked the people sitting at our resevered table to move. Fortunately the waiter handled it very well. All in all I liked this place. I’m sure I’ll be back soon.

I went here yesterday for a birthday dinner with some work folks. It’s not somewhere that’s ever been on my radar, but I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews. First up, they have quite an extensive(and inexpensive) cocktail menu — but took almost 10 mins to make a strawberry bellini and a pint of beer. The staff, whilst pleasant and helpful, strike me as being very inexperienced — one of the girls I was with asked for a zinfandel, and was met with a blank look. Most of the booths were booked — which we had done too — but this required a £5 deposit per person, which was(eventually) taken off the final bill. Being served took quite a while — there didn’t really seem to be much in the way of structure in the way staff were organised. Foodwise, I was pleasantly surprised — I had a cajun chicken burger, which was very tasty, nice and spicy too. If I was getting this again, I’d get a side of fries too — the portion of chips that came with the burger was really small. My colleagues were all happy with their choices too. I’m not overly keen on either the atmosphere, or décor(v dark) — but the drink was cheap, and the food was tasty and even cheaper! The food bill for 6 of us came to £30.70 — minus the deposit, £0.70! Yep, the two for one deals here are awesome!

As far as clubs go, this one is a-ok. The décor is very club like with loads of flashy lights, silvery baubles and mirrors. My boyfriend and I were invited out to dinner and drinks by his friend and his friends wife. We left it up to them to choose the place for dinner, and we ended up here. We felt a bit under dressed for a Saturday night with everyone dressed to impress, we showed up minimally dressed up for a night out. We had reservations for dinner, and they seated us at a high top bar table. We were wondering who thought the table we were given was big enough for four people to eat dinner and have drinks. We asked the hostess and she quickly apologized and offered up any table that may have opened up. We soon enough found a bigger booth and were able to enjoy dinner with elbow room to spare. We had just enough time to finish our meals plus two bottles of wine and other drinks before we had to give up the table to another group who had reserved the table. As luck would have it, we were able to score a small booth for the four of us to order more drinks. It turned out quite nice. I’ve never been to Cova, but their meal deals for the night were all burgers and pizzas were 2 for 7.50. Ha! Not only did we get our meals on the cheap, but we were able to get load of booze on the cheap as well. I believe we paid 7 quid for bottles of their house Rose’. Ciders and beers were normal price, but we ended up walking out of there and on to the next place fed and boozed up for pretty cheap. Not the typical place my boyfriend and I would ever go, we ended up having a good night due to the company we held and the music that was on. I’m not saying we’d rush back ever really, but for what it was, it was good. I’d say if you’re looking for a super cheap night out, check out Cova.

I’m never entirely sure what to make of this place. Inside it looks *nice* — I’m a sucker for a high ceiling and a well placed bunch of fairy lights. The drinks are almost unrealistically cheap during the week. Four of us came here for some post-work-dinner-drinks(that’s a lot of hyphens!) and it came to less than £10(including a bottle of wine!) I keep waiting for this bar to up its game, get more expensive and for the bubble to burst but it’s all good so far. I’ve not properly eaten here yet but will need to try it. It’s never going to be the best drinks for the price, but it’s hard to grumble with this kind of mid-week value.

Mixed feelings about this new-ish establishment. Good points: — Super cheap food and drink. We ordered two soft drinks, a burger and a pizza which all came to under £10. Plenty of drink deals on too, as well as some great offers on 5pm. — Cool lighting. Loved the chandeliers and fairy lights in the windows. — Nice toilets. Absolutely sparkling clean and really modern. — Fast service. There was only one person serving but this didn’t affect our waiting time. The girl serving was really nice too. Bad points: — Dodgy music. Mix of pop and cheese-tastic dance. Wasn’t a fan, but guess this is just down to personal preference. — Average food. They definitely need to up their game a little bit to compete with the other food joints in this area. The beef on my pizza tasted a little weird. The burgers could do with some more salad. The buns they use are great though, can’t beat a wee cheeky brioche bun. The chips that come with the burger aren’t that great. You could actually taste the cooking fat off them, which brings me nicely on to my next point… — Fries mentioned all over the menu but they actually don’t serve fries, just chunky chips. I know this seems a little bit harsh, but I really can’t do chunky chips with burgers. — Promo signs. Too many of them, the ones in the window look a tad tacky and there’s really no need for them inside when there’s menus on tables. Like I said before, it’s a lovely space with some pretty cool décor. If they up their game with the food, music and take away the dodgy signs… They could be on to something pretty special!
