I just discovered Deliveroo and from the actual app layout, it seems like a Über for food deliveries! A lot nicer than your average Just Eat etc having seen many of my favourite restaurants in Glasgow on Deliveroo! There’s only a 2.50 delivery charge with option to tip on the app, the rest is left up to the individual restaurants. One thing I like about the app is that you can see the food coming — with an estimated ETA… So you have time to put some trousers on! ;) All joking aside, I would definitely use this again.

I really love the concept of Deliveroo, a flat rate charge of £2.50 delivery to bring food from some of your favourite restaurants direct to your door! Perfect if you can’t leave the house to pick up takeaway(cause leaving your child asleep in your house and popping out is not okay!) or you fancy something a bit nicer than your standard chinese, indian, pizza offerings. The online system is pretty good, you can see what time the different restaurants accept your order and you can even order in advance for a set time. I’ll warn you though, placing an order in advance just means you’ll be super hungry by the time it arrives as you’ll be thinking of your food that whole time! On this occassion I ordered food from the Squid & Whale, I order two items which came to a total of £14.90. I clicked on checkout and was meet with a dialouge box that stated: Unfortunately you have not met the mimimum order value for this restaurant of £15. What would you like to do: pay an extra £2(yes TWOPOUNDS, not 10p which would have taken me to the minimum order…) or cancel order. This was a bit frustrating as I’m pretty sure most people would be okay with a minimum order value if it’s stated up front before ordering or if the option was to top up just the shortfall only. You can also only tip the driver through the online system in round pounds, not a big deal but I quite like to round the spend up to a whole number. On this occasion I couldn’t get the order tracking to work online, and after a recent failed online order to completely different place, I was worried that my food was awol again! I gave customer services a quick call(I was only on hold for about a minute before I got to speak to someone) and I was told my food had just left the restaurant. My food arrived within 5 minutes of the order time I requested, which I thought was really good, by a really friendly delivery driver. It was hot, packaged well and tasted good. I’m pretty sure I’ll be using Deliveroo again. I think the overall experience would be improved by showing clearly what the minimum order values are for each restaurant you can order from — I’m guessing they could be different as they are presumably set by the restaurants and not Deliveroo. The option to top up to the minimum order value should also be for the shortfall only and not a random amount of money!
