I waited along time to come here. Was it worth it? Yes, definitely. «You’ve ordered quite a large amount of food for only 2 people» «…I know… I want to try EVERYTHING» So I did. Ribs were perfect and the depth of flavour from the rub was awesome. Fat chicken wings smothered in Richmond tangy, smoky BBQ sauce were perfect. BBQ pinto beans were deep and rich and unctuous and the Chicken burger with pulled pork was amazing. All perfectly cooked. 2 things. 1. The pulled pork on the burger was the best I have ever had. 2. Only thing stopping it getting 5 stars was the brisket, which is what I was most looking forward too. I think I was just unlucky as I got the dried nub ends and only a couple of soft slices in there — flavour wise it was spot on. Excellent Saturday lunching.

We did it AGAIN… I should have updated this review a few weeks ago because I hate to admit this, but I’ve visited Dennistoun Bar-B-Que twice recently which is pretty shocking! It is definitely my boyfriend’s favourite place and whenever I suggest going for dinner, this usually gets his vote. Sadly, he is one of these annoying people that can eat and eat and eat without putting weight on. If I was like that, I would be here every week! I’ve changed my favourite order because I tried their BLT and wow… probably the best BLT I’ve ever had! The bacon is so crispy, there is plenty of salad and not too much mayo. The brioche roll is never soggy and I’m honestly in BLT heaven. My boyfriend is still going for the chicken burger with nothing but crispy bacon and having tried a little, it is really tasty. Usually I need to have loads of salad on a burger but i actually really like this. The chicken is spicy, but seriously good! I’ve come to accept that we’ll be placing orders from time to time which I’m not complaining about — but my waistline will be! Thankfully, the give you the option to have your burger in lettuce leaves instead of a bun. Not sure how that will work given the size of the burgers, but I’m keen to give it a go and will report back! As usual, the staff are always really nice and the second my boyfriend phones to order, they know exactly who he is and pretty much what he wants(I’m the more adventurous one). During the week, orders usually take about 15 minutes to prepare but understandably at the weekend, it can take about 45 minutes which is expected from any take away. I definitely recommend calling ahead and collecting or using their local delivery service — he’s got them delivering to his bands studio which isn’t the easiest place to get to but they are more than happy to accommodate. But as my last review, have no complaints at all. And my boyfriend has their number saved in his phone now. I’m not sure they will ever get rid of him…

Warning: This review contains no photos because it was 10pm when we got our food and scranning on was the number 1 priority. I was already quite a fan of Dennistoun BBQ. I’ve tried a couple of different burgers on the menu and mac and cheese as a side is always a massive draw. So last night when my group of 9 friends needed to line their stomachs for a Royal Rumble party, burgers was the unanimous choice. I’d contacted them to give them a heads up for such a large order and they were very accommodating. Delivery meant more drinking time too. It was a good start. I’m always wary of placing large orders for delivery. Historically something gets missed out or messed up but the absolute pros at Dennistoun BBQ got everything bang on, even with some additions and subtractions. I ordered the chicken burger with no bacon and mac and cheese on the side(obv!) Four of the nine opted for the chicken burger and it’s so clear to see why. It is epic in size, beautifully tender and packed full of flavour. It was a challenge to finish it but as I had a full night of drinking ahead I struggled on. The mac and cheese was also vastly improved since I last had it and it was a bigger portion. Win! The rest of the group had absolutely no complaints about their food either. Smokestack(traditional beef patty with barbecue sauce, onion fries and cheese) was a clear second place to the chicken burger in popularity and the seasoned fries were top choice of side. I managed to nab a few from a generous friend and can confirm they are worth the hype. Dennistoun BBQ has firmly secured their status as 5 star for me and I don’t think it’ll be too long before I find another excuse to visit.

Ohhhhh Dennistoun Bar-B-Que. Oh how badly I wanted you to do well and oh how badly you failed me. I’d been wanting to come here for a while as Dennistoun’s got a nice wee food scene on the go and I had heard good things from people on here and outside of Unilocal. I was left ridiculously disappointed. First impressions were good as the inside is pretty cool-looking, we were given menus and grabbed the high table up the back as it wasn’t very busy(it was around 4−5pm on a Wednesday.) Everything on the menu sounded amazing but of course I already knew what I wanted — the BBQ brisket sandwich. I was a bit miffed that it didn’t come with chips as it was £7, but I reminded myself that I happily pay more than that for something without chips in a certain burger place I’m in love with. I spied that they had imported cans of actual Mountain Dew in the fridge which added to my excitement because I love it and the stuff we get here is NOT the same. Sadly, the Mountain Dew was the best part of my meal. Paul S and I decided to split chips and asked what the«seasoned» ones were — upon being told they were Cajun spiced I asked how spicy they were, whereupon I was slightly snarkily informed«It depends how much I put on.» Excuse me for not knowing what chips I’ve never had are like. Nonetheless, we asked for not too much spice, I ordered the brisket sandwich while the bf went for the pulled pork one and we sat down to wait for our food. Now. I don’t have an issue with places which call your name for you to come and collect your food, but given that there were more people behind the counter than there were customers I felt it was a bit unnecessary. It would literally(and I do mean literally) have taken them less time to bring us our food as they had to call us twice, because the speakers above us were too loud. Additionally the second time we were called, they just shouted«YOUTWOUPTHEBACK» at us, nice. And this is where it gets worse. My brisket sandwich was just a big slab of dry, tough beef with BBQ sauce slathered over the top of it and some coleslaw. The BBQ sauce was not very nice at all and kept catching the back of my throat, I could barely eat the brisket and the roll was just meh. The bf said his pulled pork sandwich was more coleslaw than anything else, and the chips were covered in loads of Cajun spice even though we asked fo them not to be. Of course, we could have complained but the bf did manage to eat his sandwich, while I was so sad about the whole thing that I just wanted to leave. I’m not particularly fussy when it comes to food but I hardly ate any of my sandwich and couldn’t eat the chips. The cool interior and easy access to reasonably-priced Mountain Dew are basically the only reasons I’m even giving this two stars. Won’t be back if I can help it, and that pains me to say because I seriously hate giving bad reviews!

Nutella ribs. They have Nutella ribs. Ribs, smothered in Nutella. It’s like dreams coming true, and actually tastes as good as it dream-tastes. Served on a bed of lettuce and onion, and you’d be surprised at home good onion covered in meaty Nutella tastes. It’s hard to be objective when it was so wacky and yet delicious. We shared the ribs and some onion fries and about half a bottle of the awesome burger sauce they have on the tables. We went late afternoon and the place was jumping. I got major burger envy and am definitely planning a return trip for a full feast. They’ve got an awesome selection of American drinks too — root beer, cream soda, Mountain Dew — and the décor is funky too. Although I only had a quick visit, it was definitely a 5-star quick visit.

A complete 5 star. When I ordered my burger it said nothing about a sauce on it, as the rest of the burgers had details of their sauce I figured mine didn’t have one. Turns out it did. However I just removed the bottom bun which was totally fine. However the staff were more than happy to toast me a new bun which made up for it. I loved that you see every step of the cooking process! My partner’s burger was twice as big as mine and he had to eat his with a knife and fork! 4 of us went here and all 4 were really happy with our food!

We were pondering a burger and happened to be in the east of the city. Having heard good things about Dennistoun bbq(and honestly having few other options out this way) we popped in mid afternoon. The staff were talkative, attentive and happy to discuss the menu. We opted for a chicken Columbia, smoke stack, seasoned fries and chilli bowl. To say the portions were generous is being harsh, I only managed half my burger but every mouthful was amazing. Tasty chicken and pulled pork and interesting purple cabbage based coleslaw. The chilli wasn’t a huge bowl but certainly enough as a side portion and super tasty to boot. I’d happily rate Dennistoun bbq among the best burgers in Glasgow and I’m currently extremely thankful that I’m about to move to within walking distance.

Adding the fifth star that it so richly deserves; not just because the burgers are still fantastic, not for the incredible seasoned fries that may well be the best in the city, nor even for the lovely, delicious, creamy mac and cheese side that I got for the first time… and Briony C was right, dip the fries in it! No, the fifth star is for consistency. I’m in here a lot, as it’s on the road to Celtic matches, and my son — who is a philistine that believes Subway is the finest food known to man — loves it here too. Every time I’ve been in, no matter how busy, the staff are always quick, courteous and offer a nice line in witty quips. The food is always uniformly excellent, every burger I’ve had from here has been cooked to perfection, and the fries… oh, the fries. I could build a fort out of the fries and eat my way out of it, only to rebuild it with more fries and repeat the process… Can’t fault the value for money either. Less than £15 for two burgers, fries and a side? Amazing. Utterly amazing. One of the East End’s finest establishments, and well worth a visit. Now, where can a man get a fort of seasoned fries to eat his way out of???

So close to 5 stars you can almost taste it … like the ridiculously good grilled chicken burger I had here. Oh, and the cajun fries?! Get the cajun fries. Dennistoun BBQ does super casual dining really well. You order at the counter and wait around 10 – 15 minutes(maybe longer if its super busy) and then they’ll shout your name so you can grab your food. I have very specific taste in beef burger so more often than not, I start with a chicken burger at a new place before trying a beef one — I think chicken is generally done better than beef. This chicken burger was RIDICULOUS in size, it was mostly all hanging out of the bun as it was so big. Am I complaining? No way, it was absolutely delicious and had that juicy, smoky freshness from grilled chicken that so many places screw up by overcooking. It was hard to eat though so I ended up just aiming on eating the fillet rather than the burger. I tried a couple of sides; cajun fries and mac cheese. The cajun fries are amazing and probably the best I can remember eating in Glasgow. There was just the right amount of seasoning and they packed a good punch. You know what makes Cajun fries even better? Dipping them into mac cheese. Oh yeh, I went there and I’m not ashamed. My friend Sharon M wasn’t all that impressed with the mac cheese but she is pretty judgemental(I mean that as a compliment, she makes a damn amazing mac cheese) — personally, I liked it. It was cheesy, the mac was cooked just right. Simple, and good. This isn’t the kind of place to eat and then sit about chatting with your pals, so we headed up the road for dessert. I’ll be back sooner rather than later for more of that ridiculous chicken. They also do takeaway — phone in your order so you don’t have to wait too long as it was really busy on a Friday night. I understand why.

It’s the Devils Work Dennistoun Bar-B-que ain’t top, top tier burger — nope. The overcooked burger’s questionable for sure, but there’s just something about these BIG Bertha burgers that are so good. In the words of AC/DC’s Bön Scott«You’re a Whole Lotta Rosie!» Maybe it’s the novelty of eating food that make your hands look so tiny? Maybe it’s the onion rings that are peppered with crack cocaine?* I can’t pinpoint what it is about this place. But I want to keep coming back. It’s certainly not the kebab shop style counter, or the cold draughty restaurant that I like and it’s not exactly ‘fast’ food. But when all hope’s lost, my self-dignity robbed barren and not a penny left to pay the rent, I am rescued from destitution! Emerging from the deep-fried depths of hell — a BBQ sauce topped £-FIVE Beelzebub of battered rings, meat, cheese and bun. Salvation! My dignity’s returned and now I can afford to live! And for another £2 you get a meal? Really? *Disclaimer — They’re not really covered in Crack, more like cracked sea salt

I’d heard so many mixed reviews about this place, but the reviews I’ve heard recently were all great. I had the day off work and thought I’d go with my friend for lunch and a catch up. We actually walked past the place, so you need to know where you’re going or like us you’ll be walking back. It’s pretty simple inside, really small which makes it look a bit a busier. You order and pay at the counter, then they shout your name to go and collect it. We waited roughly 30 minutes and seeing everyone else’s food had us starving so we were looking forward to it. The woman working on the counter was nice. They shouted me for our food and I noticed straight away there was some kind of white sauce on it which I imagine to be mayo? either that or burger sauce. When I ordered i said that the only sauce I wanted was BBQ, I told the woman and she said ehhh it’s only burger sauce but I’ll transfer it over for you. Luckily they were quick enough to get it back to me. We ordered x2 smoke stack burgers, 1 side of seasoned fries, one side of fries, half rack of BBQ ribs and x2 vanilla cokes. I’m gutted to say that the food looks a lot better than it tastes. The burger as a whole was average, The patty was a little dry and the bun broke up even more as I took each bite. My friend had the macaroni and had 1 spoonful she said it tasted more like carbonara but not as good. The ribs were okay, pretty tough and didn’t taste much of BBQ. The seasoned fries and the vanilla coke was the best thing about our visit. The price was really good I think we were £20.50 for everything. I would give it a 2.5÷3 stars.

First, a confession… I have lived just round the corner from the Dennistoun Bar-B-Que for over six months, and in that time did not venture in to sample the smoky meaty delights this no-nonsense burger and American BBQ joint has to offer… My bad, but I remedied this several times over the festive holidays, and boy was it good! From the outside it’s unassuming. Simple cinema-style marquee lettering sign announce its presence, and cuisine, «PITBEEFANDPORK — BURGERS — RIbS». On entering, you’ll see a busy open kitchen with sizzling meat, a collection of chunky tables filled with Dennistoun denizens chowing down on epic towers of meat in toasted brioche buns, and hungry customers waiting on their take-out orders. The menu is straightforward and outstanding value for money. There are half a dozen choices of 7oz handmade burgers starting from a mere £4, with sides priced at a standard £2 including fries, slaw, potato salad, mac n cheese, chili. There’s also ribs, wings and sandwiches if that’s your thing. I opted for the Smoke Stack(beef pattie, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion rings, BBQ sauce) and a side of fries. Because I was taking out, I got a free can of soda, nice touch! For my guests, the Columbia(double bacon, cheese, pit pork) and the Meatless burger were ordered — unfortunately they were out of both pit pork and the Meatless burger, so substituted with brisket and the veggie-bacon sandwich, no big deal. Sides of slaw and more fries were ordered, and complementary sodas too. The order came to a very agreeable £23.50 and was ready in around 15 minutes. They shout your name when your order is ready, whether eating in or take-out, so listen out! I’d rate Dennistoun Bar-B-Que in the same league as the big-hitters in the city centre, Burger Meats Bun, etc., but a little bit cheaper and serving bigger burgers — double win! I couldn’t fault the burgers at all. Big handmade patties, juicy, chock-full of toppings, good bun, tangy sauce, quality cheese. My only gripe was the portion size of the take-out slaw, rather small and less than half the size of Bread Meats Bread take-out slaw for the same price(BMB’s served in an 8oz cup) Looking forward to hitting up here again soon — my only concern is for my waistline, but hey, everything is good in moderation!

Stopped by for my last meat meal prior to resolutions kicking in on the 5th January and going pescetarian, so stopped by this dive joint on my door step which had caught my eye. Looks cool and rough around the edges, and is edgy enough to fit in with other less salubrious Duke Street establishments!!! Ordered The Kinney burger with pulled pork and seasoned fries while my dining partner opted for the Columbia and onion rings. Speedy service, and a sight for sore eyes… Great looking burgers and the taste is divine. The sides were also good but the seasoned fries a bit too paprika-y for me so I’ll go plain next time. Onion rings were yummeh. Both burgers were well worth the money and some of the best I’ve tasted, certainly top 3 in Glasgow. My only tip would be to have a side plate to aid in the eating process as these are seriously huge burgers that actually need a knife and fork, plus some sauces for fries and the burgers if you so choose. I’ll be bigging this place up and returning to try the veggie option. And for the root beer which they didn’t have this time! More places like this in Dennistoun please!

Wow! Back to basic’s with Dennistoun BBQ joint. As we were taking away, I never really got to try the whole sitting in experience. From the out side looking in its something straight out the Ghetto(because I’ve seen it on the TV) chipboard counter, basic table and chairs But hey what’s fancy interior got to do with it! I went for the Smoke stack burger and it was massive. Beautifully Flamed grill burger patty stacked with onions and delicious BBQ sauce. Toasted bun topped it off! I got a taster of the Columbia, well what I could fit of it in my mouth! Even bigger, more dirty and super tasty! We decided to go for a couple sides after all it was my birthday! BBQ Ribs, too good for words! Bad times ahead — we got home to no fries. THEYFORGOTMYCHIPS!!! Not sure of its was a good thing as this might a tipped me Over the edge but I would still have liked to have tried them. So I will keep my 5th star for my fries. Until next time.

You forgot my fries, but I still think your awesome. First visit here yesterday for Trudie M’s birthday dinner. We phoned ahead and grabbed a takeaway, so I can’t really comment on the sit in experience. All I will say is its got a run down 8 mile feel to it, that is not to say its bad, just that you should not expect plush surroundings if you decide to dine in. When we got to the place the food was ready and the guy behind the counter ran through my order. Two burgers, ribs and fries. He then informed me I was also entitled to a free can. Excellent news, I paid my money and left to hurry home and eat the awesome smelling delights within the huge brown paper bag I had been given. Now for the sad times — once home. No bloody fries! I am sure you have all experienced this sadness at one point, when you get your takeaway home. Your starving and you open the bag and not everything is there. I held the tears in and decided it was to far to go back and that they were only 2 quid so there was no point in even phoning to complain. It turns out the missing fries may have been a blessing in disguise. I somewhat over estimated the amount of food I was going to be able to eat. After my ½ of the small ribs and my burger I was genuinely stuffed to bursting. Although I did manage to scoff a bit of T’s burger when she quit ¾’s of the way through hers. I went for the 9 quid Columbia burger. It is double bacon, cheese, pit pork and slaw. It was massive and epic! the burger was sloppy and brilliant, just the way it should be. This is the type of burger that looks you in the eye and says«you can’t eat me, i’m to big for you to handle». Well burger you were wrong, it took me a while but I scoffed you completely! I win!!! Believe it or not there is a «Columba II» for £2.50 extra and a «Columbia III» for an extra fiver. The one version that was MAAAAAAASIVE. So I am not sure how big the three would be, you may need to get it served in a bucket! The definite highlight of the meal was the burger, but the ribs with BBQ were also nice, the sauce was just right and the smaller 6 quid version we got was more than enough for 3(Rogue had some to) of us when we had burgers as well. 4 stars and not 5 on this occasion. A — You forgot the fries. Probably saved me from a food coma, but you still forgot them. B — I would like to try the sit in experience before giving you that last star. So if you like huge messy tasty burgers, this place is well worth a visit.

I headed here with my husband after hearing about them for a long time. As an American I tried to keep my expectations realistic. We’d heard mixed reviews but most seemed to be about burgers that are now hand-made on site instead of brought in. First off they have two kinds of American rootbeer to choose from including my favourite Barqs — this made me happy. We ordered a Columbia burger, Brisket sandwich, onion fries, mac & cheese and slaw. The burger was REALLY good – topped with bacon(amazing), slaw, pit pork(so good) and cheese. The husband REALLY loved this and while the slaw made it quite wet and messy it was really good. The brisket was nice but didn’t blow us away. I really liked the BBQ sauce that came with it as it wasn’t artificially smoky like a lot of BBQ sauce you get in Glasgow. The mac and cheese was disappointing to me. This pregnancy I’ve been all about the mac and cheese and this was very white and very blah. It was more pasta in bechamel with rosemary than mac and cheese. I was expecting gooey, cheesy loveliness with a crisp top and that was not what we got at all. The slaw was fab – it’s a purple slaw and not overly mayonnaise-y. It was a great contrast on the burger and nice and crisp not soggy. Again I was very disappointed withe the onion fries. Onion straws are one of my favourite things to order back in the USA – I was expecting thinly sliced bits of onion, lightly battered and deep fried so they are crunchy. What I got was basically onion pakora. The onions were thin sliced but caked in a ridiculous amount of pakora-like batter. Not appetising or what I’d imagined. Décor wise it still has far too much of the old kebab shop about it. Some darker paint, some old Meanest Man competition posters(the kind of thing that gets stapled to a telephone poll in Ohio) rather than cheesy Uni posters and they are headed for a vibe that matches their menu. Right now it’s too bright and doesn’t reflect what they are trying to achieve. Will I go back? Yes. Will I order what I did before? We’d definitely get a burger again but probably scrap the rest in favour for fries and maybe ribs. I did see that breakfast is coming soon so I look forward to that! I do think they are making a good effort and with a bit of tweaks could be great! I’d give 3 ½ stars if I could :)

G was introduced to Dennistoun Bar-Be-Que at work. He even claimed it was better than my go to burger joint of choice, Bread Meats Bread. Spoiler alert — g, like Jon Snow, knows nothing. This isn’t a posh burger joint. It looks like an old fashioned chippy, nice, clean but a definite chippy vibe. Teak panelling on the back wall, formica topped tables, old wooden school chairs and a big counter in front of a takeaway style kitchen to order at. We ordered at the counter and sat at the back of the place to people watch. Perfect spot for this with a huge variety of people coming in. From glammed up groups lining their stomachs before heading out for the night to one couple both in their jammies — classy! The food is served on a greaseproof paper lined plastic tray, yes the kind they used in your school canteen. This could make the portions look stingy. Except the portions here are muckle. The pile of seasoned fries beside my burger was frankly intimidating. Mind you, when I discovered how perfectly spicy the seasoned fries were I soon managed to get over my fear. My Granny Boab burger was served in a brioche roll — aren’t they all now? What was wrong with the sesame seeded rolls, I like sesame seeds. They do say on the menu the burgers are 100% beef but a bit of seasoning wouldn’t have gone amiss here. And dry, just thank goodness for the caramelised onions or I could have been doing the cream cracker challenge. It’s a decent wee burger place but I was left wondering why g thought this rivalled Bread Meats Bread. It’s good but not in the same league and my favourite is safe.

So I hear there is a BBQ joint opened in dennistoun and I kinda need to give it a go. Hidden behind an unsuspecting frontage is an even more unique interior. A chipboard counter frames their takeaway style kitchen. It is very southern USA feel to the finish. A short but sweet menu of burgers, ribs and a couple of sandwiches and selection of sides including the all important mac and cheese. Prices for the burgers start at £4 and go up to £9 for their Columbia burger, for £2 more you can grab a meal and and extra £1 for a premium American soda. I have to say the meal on the whole is in inspiring. Small and relatively flavourless burger, undercooked pre frozen fries and bland mac and cheese. My final thought is that they could do with some sort of smoker and possibly a chargrill. Chip your own fries and up the burger size and quality. Give the mac and cheese some flavor or you will be blown out of the water by the other BBQ joints in town. I can’t say I’ll be back as it doesn’t represent very good vale for money.
