East End Carpet Co is a locally owned little business on Duke Street, that is popular among locals for its variety of flooring at a variety of prices ranging from cheap and cheerful to sad and skint. I ventured in here when I was looking to carpet my flat and I was impressed by the range of carpets to suit my not so extravagant student budget. After speaking with the friendly owner about what was on offer, I settled on an ‘oatmeal’ carpet for throughout my flat and some grey linoleum for my kitchen and bathroom — costing just under £600 for the lot, including delivery and fitting. However, I would advise that if you do make a purchase from this place, you should fit it yourself or have someone else do it for you. When my carpet and flooring was delivered, they weren’t fitted very well, and after they left I noticed that the linoleum hadn’t been cut properly and they had left nails lying loose over the carpet — very dangerous. I called to let the owner know that I was unhappy with the service and fitting, and he assured me that he would send someone to take a look and rectify it, however no one ever showed up and I didn’t have the guts to chase it up. Overall, this place is good if you’re after cheap and basic flooring, and the prices aren’t too bad, however I would definitely recommend giving the fitting service a miss as I could have probably fitted it better myself.
