I’ve been craving Greek food since going there on holiday and this place defiantly filled that hole in my belly! The prices are reasonable for the quality of food! Staff friendly and helpful. Always my go-to when craving Greek!

Balmy Saturday afternoon, the city buzzing with all the Commonwealth visitors and the wee cuz & I looking for an early dinner with no reservation. We were heading for the Merchant City when I had a wee flash of inspiration, we had once before visited Elia and I thought this is the kind of food I was looking for today. Fortunately they had a table free we were greeted a very nice Greek Gentleman who instantly made us feel very welcome. We ordered some wine & some tap water and perused the menu, I ordered //Kefalotyri, a cheese from Crete which is lightly fried and wee cuz had //Prawn Saganaki, prawns baked in a tomato and dill sauce. Whilst we were waiting for our starters we had some delicious bread with olives & dipping oil & vinegar. We were busy catching up and enjoying the bread & wine that we did not notice our lack of starters until the very charming waiter informed us that our order had not gone through to the kitchen he checked our order again apologized profusely and offered us complimentary drinks I must have been in a very mellow mood as I am not good at tolerating poor service. Anyhoo starters arrived and were delicious, I did think that my cheese would have benefited to be accompanied by a small salad, the waiter over heard my comment and seconds later one arrived it was perfect, wee cuz enjoyed her prawns very much. For mains I ordered Kleftiko slow-cooked lamb, on the bone in tomato sauce and oven potatoes it was melt in the mouth delicious, wee cuz had //Beef Stifado a rich beef stew, with onions in a tomato sauce and is served with rice, which she could not finish as the portions are very generous. Apart from the order blip this was a very pleasant meal the restaurant was full and had a lovely atmosphere many people had to be turned away. I will definitely return.

Had a terrible meal in here. The lamb moussaka tasted like a cinnamon swirl, was scalding hot around the edges and cold in the middle. And the lamb skewers came on a plate with no skewer in sight, limp old lettuce with a couple of bits of peppers and greasy chips. The meal came to £44 and we only had soft drinks. I paid for the meal as my fiancé didn’t want me to complain because she felt sorry for the waiter but it’s the chef who should have an ear full. Safe to say they cursed me when I left as I didn’t leave a tip. It was dead on a Saturday around 2 o’clock and the town was mobbed, this should have set alarm bells ringing, I won’t be back. Woeful

I’ve eaten at Elias a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is divine. I favour the kleftiko and any starter– they’re all good. There’s a lot of Greek staff, if you haven’t travelled to Greece before(real Greece, not a week in Corfu with all the other British people) you would know the Greek serve on Greek time. They value time in meals so don’t mix this up with poor customer service. You should sit and enjoy your meal, get a coffee. Chat and have a baklava. Take in the experience because Elias is amazing and by far my favourite restaurant in Glasgow.

The sun was shining and rather being stuck in the office decided to hit this wee place for some lunch today with a colleague. I’m not normally a big fan of Greek food but my mind has been changed. £6.95 two course lunch menu was enticing in itself. There isn’t a big choice on the lunch menu but I am sure there is something on it most people would eat. The restaurant is modern and the waiters were very attentive. Prior to our starter they served us with nice slabs of bread, oil and vinegar with a side of olives. We both opted for pitta and houmous. The pitta was warm and the houmous was ace. Seafood risotto was the main, it was good, however a bit too salty for my liking. Bottle of house white wine £12.25. All in all the bill for the two of us was £26, can’t complain at that.

Elia was a great find for us on our weekend trip to Glasgow. We were running late for lunch(2:30p) and we stumbled in because their menu looked decent and Greek sounded good to us. We were initially put off by the service; the wait staff acted very superior and both unapproachable and cold. I think they might have been upset that we arrived when there were not supposed to be any customers; I think they probably relish relaxing during the couple hours between lunch and dinner, and who wouldn’t? The selection of beers included a couple that I’d not tried from Greece and Cyprus. I had the Cyprus lager and enjoyed it very much. After placing our food orders, service improved dramatically. Starters were brought quickly, either piping hot or nice and cool, depending on the course. Make sure when you order that you enunciate very clearly! We ordered dolmathes and ended up with hummus. :) The food was phenomenal! The lamb melted in my mouth, and the spicing of the dish was perfect. I had the lamb casserole, and Rachel had the moussaka. I tried a bite of hers and found it to be very flavorful and rich and creamy. All in all, I’d gladly go here again, just not for the service. Also, it was a very tough call to give it 3 instead of 4. If I could have, it would have been 3.5.

Tried Elia last night for the first time and was really impressed. The food was fantastic and very authentic. I felt like I was back on a Greek island as it reminded me of the food I got on holiday. Portion sizes are ideal, the beef stifado in particular was excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive. Great atmosphere, great views of the square(we had a window seat) and good price — 2 people, 3 courses and 2 bottles of wine for less than £70. We would highly recommend this and will be back!

Elia failed to impress me. The food was ok, likewise the interior space, décor, and service, but nothing was special. If the restaurant had a wider window frontage onto George Square that would be impressive, with the sensation of sitting on the pavement and people watching, but there is limited viewing onto the Square, and what I could see out of the window was… a bus stop with a smokers’ bin. Would I return? I don’t think so.

I’m just back from the Elia with a friend for lunch. We ate from their Set Lunch menu which offers 2 courses for only £6.95 which was brilliant value. Our soft drinks only cost £1.50 each so they cannot be accused of making up their money with expensive drinks. The staff were very helpful and pleasant from the moment we entered and I was really surprised to read the previous reviews which said the service was poor. We both ordered the ‘small’ Greek salad to start and Moussaka for our main and they were both lovely and fresh and definitely good value for money. The ‘small’ salad was not small at all and more than enough for a starter. The portion of moussaka looked small at first but it was so filling that I soon changed my mind and ended up not being able to finish it or the accompanying rice and salad. A nice wee change in Glasgow’s city centre and a bargain price to boot. Will surely be back.

I had noticed Elia a few times on my almost daily commute through Glasgow, and it always seemed busy. The windows look out over George Square, making it ideal for people watching(and for passers by watching you eat!) The restaurant itself is beautiful, clean lines and wooden furniature, gorgeous potted trees and simple music really make this place feel relaxed. We chose a window seat and it made for fantastic observing of the hustle and bustle of the Square, a total contrast to the quiet inside! The lunch menu boasted 2 courses for £6.95 which is phenomenal value. We ordered our meals and were then brought our drinks with complimentary olives, bread and dipping oils, a great start to the meal because we were going to order them anyway! I had the dolmathes(vine leaves filled with rice and mince) which were served with a pot of sour cream. They were absolutely delicious, and three large ones really filled me up! My partner had pitta bread with hummous, which tasted great too, although there weren’t enough bits of pitta to dunk in the huge plate of dip! Our mains came out, and I had ordered the fish of the day. It was a choice of either sea bream or swordfish, and I went for the bream. It was served atop some rice with an onion salad and looked lovely. I hadn’t tried it before so I was excited as I am a huge fish fan. I took a bite and honestly, it was disgusting! It tasted exactly like the sea and sand smell, really, really fishy and I really didn’t like it! My boyfriend tossed me over a couple of chunks of his chicken souvlaki so I had to make do with that! It was absolutely nothing to do with the fish I’m sure but I spent the rest of the time trying to concoct plans of how I would hide it under salad, I felt so rude! Overall, apart from my nasty fish experience, Elia was a great restaurant. Laid back décor, relaxed atmosphere, great food, but next time, I’ll go for something tried and tested!

What a pleasant surprise for the center of Glasgow, with a dynamite two course lunch menu for 6.95 and all fresh with lots of it. The chicken meatballs are superb and with the lemon roasted potatoes yum. Combine that with 2.95 for a glass of retsina and the authentic appetizers I am a real fan

Elia Greek Restaurant is situated on George Square on the Queen Street side. The décor is fresh and modern which is slightly unexpected for this style of restaurant. On the night of our visit there appeared to be some delay in being greeted by staff and sadly this theme continued throughout the night. Service staff appeared to have a lack of observation skills and were unable to recognise the needs of the customer. We felt on our visit we were being constantly observered and watched with constant interuptions during eating. The table sat with plates and empty drink glasses for much too long. When we tried to get the attention of staff they were all found sat round a table eating their own dinner. All this said, we have nothing but good things to say about the quality of the excellent food served to us. Expect authentic greek food made from fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. Putting aside the poor staffing we would recommend this fantastic little restaurant. We felt it was real shame it was let down by the staffing. It should also be noted that our visit was within the first month of opening and as such the young staff should improve as they gain experience.
