I thought I’d give this salon a go because I’m still looking for«The One»(hairdresser-wise) and I was impressed by the reviews of Hely. Booking online was pretty easy and I liked that I could easily look at who was available on what day and what the cost would be. On the day I was running a little bit late due to the weather but managed to get a parking spot out the front and run in. Thankfully me being late didn’t seem to be an issue and I was shown to a chair for the consultation and a head massage. I was just having a cut and blow dry, and Lisa was really good at chatting about what I wanted and making suggestions. After my hair was washed, Lisa got started on the cut and I got to reading my magazines. She then blow dried it straight for me(there was a brief interlude when she switched over to another staff member to finish it off for me) and as I was happy with the cut, she didn’t do any dry cutting at the end. All up it was £47 which was what I was quoted online(is there anything worse than being charged for hidden extras?) and I’m pretty pleased with my cut. I got a good few inches off, and I was happy with how she blow dried as it was nice and straight. The salon itself is small but really nice. There’s the floor level entrance where they have a few stations and hair-washing, a lower level and then an upper mezzanine level. It’s a great use of the space and overall I thought it was a really tidy, clean and welcoming place to go. Did I find The One? Well, I’m actually not sure just yet — I need to wash my hair and see how it turns out when I blow dry/straighten it at home. So if it’s perfect, I’ll update this review.

This was with thanks to Ryan W. who posted on the Talk thread about Hely Hair’s 50% discount on colour. I thought I desperately need a hair cut, I haven’t been to a hairdressers in six months. I know, pretty bad! I normally colour it myself but I thought, let’s give the Hely Hair family peeps a go. I first went along to check it out and see if I could book an appointment. I was greeted by a lovely girl who said I could have a consultation there and then with their colourist, Carrie Anne. She was absolutely delightful and so down to earth. I always worry that the more expensive a place, the more posh they’ll be making me feel really intimidated. There was none of that at all. Carrie Anne brought out the colour book and I explained the colours I like and have had previous. It was weird for me as I have never used my phone pics before and she had her iPad with previous clients hair colours and style, so between us both we compared to get a better idea of what would be best and what I liked. So modern! Hehe! They were very busy, appointments wise, but I managed to book in on the last day of the 50% colour sale deal. Phew! I had opted to go with four different colours. Why not?! Hely Hair isn’t too far from Hyndland Train Station and there’s plenty of lovely places for a coffee and bite to eat, so, is well located. Again, as I arrived on H-Day, I was greeted by lovely smiling faces and then taken up to the mezzanine level to be seated and prepped for Carrie Anne. She was spot on and had a good note of what we went through the previous week. We then just picked a base colour then the magic began. I also had another girl helping out on my colour, I believe her name was Erin, she was absolutely lovely too. I felt like a proper lady getting pampered. They were fast and efficient and the only waiting time was the development. I was made sure I had a wee cuppa and some magazines to pass the time. I also enjoy just taking in the atmosphere and people watching, seeing what other clients are having done. They said they don’t have too many customers who come in for bright colours so they enjoyed the experience with a real excitement themselves to see the results. Well, with a wash, snip and fabulous blow dry style I felt wonderful and the end result was beautiful. To me I felt like a velvet cherry. Hehe! My hair looked amazing, just like velvet, and the colours were so rich. I officially name this look ‘The Velvet Cherry’. In the end it was a little more pricey than expected even with the 50% discount, my fault in I should have asked for a quote first as I did have a few colours. I don’t go to hairdressers often so it makes up for all those lost appointments and I get my hair back to a healthy, more manageable, state with gorgeous colours. A massive thanks to the girls and I would definitely go back, even just for a cut and blow dry as it was that good. I’m off to swoosh my luscious locks once more.

I too am incredibly picky about my hair so I am over the moon to be giving Hely Hair 5 stars. It’s a very precise cut, you see, and I know exactly what it should look like, in my head. Since my favourite hairdresser shut up shop left for sunnier climes 3 years ago, and since hairdressers can’t generally see into my brain to get the same picture of how I want it to look, I’ve tried every hairdresser in the Partick/Hyndland area and never been entirely satisfied. That’s a long time to go with not-quite-right hair. I started with a consultation with the lovely Kim who patiently looked at all the ‘inspiration’ photos off my phone and immediately seemed to get what I was after, pointing out where my current cut wasn’t quite hitting the mark. I then got a lovely relaxing head massage in the chair before going over for the wash, which was a nice touch — I don’t like it when they do the massage at the sink because often you are just banging the back of your neck off the sink and hoping it will stop soon, which is not at all relaxy. On to the cut, 40mins of easy-going chat and gossip, et voila! Perfect hair! Kim totally gets what I’m after. She is the psychic hairdresser! The Hair Whisperer, if you will. Check ma lovely hurr :-) Reasonably priced, too — £37 for cut and blow dry. I can highly recommend Hely’s. Hooray!

I’m notoriously picky about my hair. I am continuously impressed with Sindy and the team at Hely Hair who’ve sorted out my hair three times now. I’m horrible and tend to wait until my roots have turned into unintentional ombré and my cut has grown out so there is no shape or style left. Sindy is always able to transform my hair into what I need – a cut that is stylish, but requires little maintenance at the same time. Hely also has a whole menu of amazing deep conditioning treatments if your hair is in need of TLC. Be on the look out for their 50% colour sale in February & October of each year!
