Disaster of a place, generally seems to be very quiet when I go past — the have an incredible ability to forget orders and dont seem to care about it. Move on and go to one of the many other places near by.

I have come here on several occasions while passing through and found the coffee good and their selection of cakes in the window to be ok. Service seems to be on the slow side as there seems to be only one waitress so expect atleast 15 – 20 mins wait for your order. The décor is bland and boring needs bright colours l didn’t nottice any pictures on the wall just empty space’s everywhere. I’m glad that they moved the counter as it suits bette. l would come back the place has potential just needs the right people running the place.

As an avid cake enthusiast I cant confirm that Laurie’s are the best in town! I havn’t tried their food so cant comment and I have had a coffee on the odd occasion which was disappointing. If your after cakes i recommend them thoroughly!

My first trip to Laurie’s was a disappointment but one which held promise that perhaps they were just having an off day. My second trip has cleared up all doubts and lingering hopes: it’s a let down! In the interests of fairness I’ll begin with the good: the focaccia sandwiches are on the whole tasty and well executed. Neither under nor over-stuffed. Interesting fillings and served pleasantly warm from the oven. My only real criticism would be the use of jalapenos where they detract rather than compliment. Unfortunately that’s where the good ends and the bad begins: poor organisation leads to a lot of running around for little service. The staff seem inexperienced and easily overwhelmed by the number of customers they receive. Minestrone soup, the simple yet hearty Italian staple, was a greasy gloop suspending undercooked veg and overcooked pasta. Mine had to be discarded after a couple of mouthfuls. And finally, despite advertising the«Best Coffee In Glasgow» and serving one of the best beans in the city, courtesy of the excellent Artisan Roast, the poorly executed cup echos the initial promise but eventual disappointment pervading the whole experience.

Right, so I’ve fallen into a lunch rut of late. I’ve been patronizing one particular establishment nearby for the majority of my noon noshing and ignoring everyone else. Do I feel bad about this? Well yes and no. Yes that I’ve not been sharing the love, and no because the grub at this other joint is splendid… Ok, but just to clarify, I’m not taling about Laurie’s… wow, confusing much? Right, let’s clear this up. Having gulped down my lunch, I was determined to try somewhere else out for a caffeinated pick-me-up. The brain said ‘urrgh’ the Unilocal app said ‘Laurie’s’… I went. On arrival, it was easy to spot that this place was pretty heaving with lunch time punters. With my feet eager to head back to the office, i decided that a cup of broon bean juice on-the-go was the preferred option. The obligatory flat white was ordered and duly made with an encouraging amount of time being spent on the prep. Now here’s where my potential coffee snobbery begins to shine through. I’m no coffee expert, but I can tell the difference between one that’s been made properly and one that’s just been made… there is a difference! This dude. He properly made my coffee. The only downside was the lack of flavour from the bean itself in what otherwise was a surprisingly good flat white, but the milk was just perfect. Will I return? Aye most likely. Judging from the menu board, this place has a list of panini/bagette fillings that blows most of the ‘bland’ places out of the water. I shall have to try them!

Laurie’s is a great wee café in the heart of the city centre business district right by Central Station, and as such they do a brisk business. As rightly they should, their food is quite good, with some clever sandwich ideas and lovely-smelling soups. Do be warned – or heartened, if you’re like my friend Lis – while tasty, their sandwiches and paninis don’t come with mayonnaise on. As such, BYOSauce if you, like me, tend to drown your sarnies. In my epic quest for the best City Centre latte, Laurie’s is also up there near the top. They obviously use quality beans and milk, and their baristas know how to properly froth. The space itself is quite good, too, a warm but tidy welcoming atmosphere of dark wood tables and leather sofas with a hardwood floor and big picture windows facing out on the busy street. I’m sure it’d be an excellent place to come into out of the rain. The real star, though, are their baked goods and pastries. Amazing. Seriously, amazing. I had a lemon cheesecake cupcake, which was tart and just sweet enough, not sickly. They’re worth the premium price for a treat.

New spacious café close to Glasgow Central. Fine home baking and friendly staff make this a great place to visit. Character of the older sandstone building is retained, with a comfortable fresh interior.

I can’t believe I’m the FTR this cute little café in the city centre. Laurie’s serves up tasty and affordable breakfasts and lunch every day. The have a simple range of paninis, pastries, coffees and a daily soup which is guaranteed to be fantastic. Soup and a ½ baguette will only set you back £2.95 or you can go for a panini, a drink(a coffee drink – not just a lame soda or something) and a packet of crisps for £5.50. There is a strangely large bit of empty space between the counter and the tables, but other than that this is a very pleasant place for a lunch break. The food is a good value and consistently served up with a smile.
