I ate here recently and was really surprised at the quality of food and the level of service. The restaurant wasn’t very busy either. We had originally booked on a 5pm deal which was 3 courses and a glass of wine for £18 each but upon arrival we switched to their steak offer(sirloin, chips and salad with a sauce each plus a bottle of wine) for £35 or £40 to add foie gras. The food was delicious, wine of course was French and lovely. Service was spot on during the course of the evening. Finished with some sorbet(raspberry, lemon and pink champagne) which was very refreshing also. Will definitely be back soon!

First visit here tonight for pre-theatre.lost count how many times I’ve walked past and decided to go elsewhere. What a mistake! …fantastic meal, excellent value. Couldn’t fault it, I’ll be back to try the full À la carte. Quality restaurant but relaxed which I love… hate stuffy places. Everything perfectly seasoned and delicious. You don’t need to be a lover of French food when the quality is this good… so don’t be put off! Just enjoy xx Guarantee it’ll be better the«French» chain just opened nearby… give them a miss.

I went here with a friend for some pre gig food, and because she wanted to try some frogs legs. We booked for 6.30, and for a friday night, it was empty — but it was quite busy by the time we left though. The pre theatre deal was about £14 for 2 courses. For starter I had the soup of the day. For some reason it never quite crossed my mind to ask what it was — I think it was a carrot/mushroom type thing. Whatever it was, it was very tasty. Hearty actually, would be a good way to describe it. I had peppercorn steak for main. I’m not a big steak eater, and while it was nice, I’ve had better. The peppercorn sauce, however, was superb — and came in a wee ramekin which was ideal for dunking the perfectly crispy fries into. The staff were super friendly — including the chef I passed en route to the loo — you actually need to pass the kitchen to get there. All in, I enjoyed it — if you’re looking for some fairly inexpensive French food, give it a bash! Oh, and I tried the frogs legs & snails — never again, although if you’ve had them before and like them, I’m sure you’ll like them here.

A good value pre-theatre menu at this French restaurant was only let down by the slightly odd dessert. Apart from that, it was lovely! I’m actually not sure what price the pre-theatre even is. On the website it is £16.95 for three courses(inc glass of wine) but when we visited the waiter mentioned the pre-theatre had changed recently, so no longer included a wine(and I think was £17.95). He came back after a couple of minutes and said that as we’d booked under that deal we could still have the complimentary wine which was nice. Onto the food: I went with mushrooms in roquefort sauce for a starter, and steak frites for main. We also got a dauphinoise to share. The mushrooms were delicious — one of those dishes where you’ll be licking your bowl to get every scrap of sauce. It was lovely and rich, and a good sized portion to start the meal. The steak was pretty good too — cooked to medium rare as I’d ordered and the pepper sauce was delicious. We’d ordered dauphinoise to share but I wouldn’t get this again as it was a little bland. I don’t normally get dessert but was tempted by the apple flan(I think that’s what it was anyway) with crème fraîche. When it arrived I was a little confused as the topping seemed a bit like scrambled eggs, I really have no idea if that’s how it was meant to be. It was a bit of a let down after an otherwise tasty meal. I’d definitely head back here as I enjoyed the night — the restaurant is warm and welcoming and the staff were really friendly and helpful. And those mushrooms were delicious!

I visited on a Friday evening with a few friends, we were on the pre theatre menu which was £14.95 avec un chalice du vin. I had the vegetable soup, the steak(+3 supplement) and the champagne chocolate mousse. Really I can’t be too critical of anything it was very pleasant and the ambience was relaxed. However, nothing was spectacular.

I’m always wary of going to French restaurants, too much faff and hassle I thought. I like going into eateries, having a meal and getting out again all within an hour or so, so I went for lunch to the Le Bistro Beaumartin expecting a long drawn-out afternoon with pretentious, over-hyped food. I couldn’t be more wrong, it was great. The service was immediately efficient and attentive, particularly from the French waiter, I’m not sure if he was the co-owner but he was very friendly. It would have been nice if they had more than Kronenbourg on tap, but it did the job. The décor was okay. I think it could have been more quirky, in keeping with the old notebook menus and book bill holder. It took me a while to find the page with the lunch/pre-theatre menu on it, but I was pleasantly surprised by the choices on it. I chose the French onion soup, followed by the sea bass with veg, as did my partner. My uncle chose the soup of the day, and the pork medallions in a mushroom cream sauce. The courses appeared promptly. The French onion soup was subtle, but very tasty. I wish I hadn’t chucked my cheese in in a oney — I think a more subtle sprinkled approach would have worked better, instead it turned into a big stringy lump, but my bad! The sea bass was incredibly soft and the vegetables and sauce although maybe masking the flavour a bit were very nice too. My uncle confirmed he was enjoying his pork too. If I have a single gripe it would be about the portion size, but I am more than a bit greedy sometimes! The restaurant just felt right, the service was excellent and the food was very good without being amazing. I definitely made a good choice that day.
