I Heart this bar!!! Friday nights are rocking with live music & a proper, friendly pub atmosphere! The food in here is never a disappointment! I enjoyed the Steak, Guinness & mushroom pie, served with dauphinoise potatoes & mushy peas tonight!!! Delicious!!! I shall be back very soon to sample some more of what this bar has to offer!!! Thumbs Up Linen!!!

Linen is a pretty nice place, especially as it has live music quite often. However in the Shawlands hierarchy of bars I would put it as below, starting with the best. –Granary –John Sterling Maxwell –James Tassie –Linen Everything else…

I don’t really like the name of this pub. To me, the word«linen» just suggest crusty old bedsheets, covered in skidmarks, bedbugs and biscuit crumbs. Thankfully, Linen 1906 makes up for this a bit by being a competent if not mind-blowing boozer, and one of the better candidates for drinks in this part of town. Credit must go to the way in which Linen are at least making sure they do different things during the week to keep it interesting. I actually think that the Kilmarnock Road area has stagnated a bit recently in terms of it’s «going out» credentials, but here you’ll regularly find bands and open mic nights to curb the monotony a bit.

Elaborately-decorated bar, this is a good option for a night out if you happen to find yourself south of the river on a Saturday night. Despite appearing reasonably small in size, the mezzanine level ensures it can hold a fair amount and the atmosphere is friendly and vibrant. The live music when I visited consisted of a local blues band who were very impressive. Like all bars in this area, drinks aren’t overly-cheap although it is considerably lighter on the wallet than nearby Waverly Tea Room.

Great local bar with friendly and efficent service. Very impressed with the food, far superior to other pub grub in the area. Definately one to visit!

I used to go to Linen for Sunday lunch: a fairly depressing experience, as it seemed filled with silent couples and the big match on the video screens. The food was worth the lack of atmosphere: good prices, special offers and always filling. However, it is a place that is best enjoyed in the evenings, as it is making a real effort to offer something different for Shawlands. Monday night has a computer game tournament, and there is live music from Thursday through to Sunday– Sunday being an open mic night, that usually serves up some local comedy. Friday and Saturday see it turn into a trendy pub, with a graduate aged crowd: busy, but the screens have Sex and the City all Friday night and the atmosphere is lively and safe. The actual fittings are swish: this has been a comedy venue in the past, and retains some of that cool atmosphere. The last time I went in, it still had canvases of comedians up on high. It’s also possible to escape the crowds by going to their balcony. At the least, it gives a clear view of the action downstairs. The bands are local and mostly do covers. Saturday is blues night, there is a DJ on the Tuesday evening, with cocktails on special.

This place has a really good atmosphere and live music several nights a week. Will definately go back but it is a tad pricey so it wont become my regular. All in all a good place for a drink.
