Malmaison’s not bad; it’s flashy, just made for cocktails and the interior is particularly striking. I loved the quirky yet glamorous art pop which adorned the walls. The feature wall stacked high with beer kegs was also a funky addition, and the signature lighting is super cool. It is very, very stylish. For me, however, five stars are for those businesses I just can’t wait to revisit, one star for those I’d never consider again. So, I’d say Malmaison finds itself slap-bang in the middle. — Whilst I wouldn’t go out if my way to wind up in the bar, I sure as heck wouldn’t complain if I ended up there. Briony C had won cocktails for four on a Friday, and just how could we refuse; cocktails and Fridays go together like PB and J, they make for the perfect combination. We happily obliged. The bar has a deal running on Fridays where a selection of cocktails are offered at £5. This is a bargain, at Malmaison, of course. But I couldn’t help feeling that if I headed to Bath Street, I’d find some cosier cocktail haunts consistently asking for prices just a teeny bitty higher than MalBar’s limited discount offerings. — I really don’t think my finances would take too kindly to me drinking a night of Mal’s full price drinks! Regardless, my mojito was delicious and the waiter was lovely enough to offer me the left-over alcohol from Briony’s light-on-booze mojito. To which I accepted. — Why, thank you, kind barman! Personally, I’m a pub with a roaring fire kind of gal; I do like to frequent the more traditional pubs or those with some live music, something which Mal doesn’t offer. Personal preference aside, just because Mal wasn’t my favourite bar in Glasgow, doesn’t mean it won’t be yours, and the Friday cocktail deal is well worth taking advantage of if you’re nearby.

We visited the bar at Malmaison before we had dinner next door at the Honours. There’s a pretty sweet cocktail list — standard cocktails, as well as some more interesting drinks. The drink I ordered wasn’t available as they didn’t have any passionfruit syrup left, but the barman said he could make me something similar. I left it up to him and was really happy with the drink I got — it had rum and whisky in it, and was nice and fruity. A tasty way to start our meal. Drink prices were reasonable(around £7 for a cocktail) and there’s some really nice décor in here now with the refurbishment — cool prints on the walls and a huge stack of beer kegs. Downside being the TVs on the walls — I’m one of those people who will stare at a TV whenever there’s one and find them really distracting. I paid the MalBar a second visit one Friday night for cocktails as I’d won a twitter competition for four(thankfully I wasn’t alone and didn’t have to drink them all myself). On a Friday night they do «Thank Mal It’s Friday» promotion whereby the drinks are a bit cheaper than normal — e.g. cocktails are £5. I tried a very light mojito as I was driving, so the waiter made mine with less alcohol than normal and topped up Nicola C’s instead — legend. It was delicious and I barely noticed that it had less booze.
