Sometimes you get good food… Sometimes you get good atmosphere… It is really great when you get both like at Meat Bar. I wandered in as a single on Friday night @8pm and asked if they had any space even at the bar for me to have dinner. Even though it was rammed the staff ran around to try and find me an actual table. I told them that was not necessary as I didn’t want to take up so much space but I thought that was a nice touch. Sitting at the bar gave me the opportunity to observe some of the better bartenders/mixologists I have seen in some time. I stuck with a lager but they were constantly whipping up complicated and delicious looking concoctions. Considering how busy it was the fact that two of them kept up with the pace was pretty remarkable. I had a classic burger and onion rings both of which were very very good. The beef was cooked medium and the bun was chewy and quite tasty. The onion rings had a spicy rub to them which also added a nice kick. The room is pretty small and downstairs so a bit like a cave-but it kind of fits the mood. It was certainly loud but between the shouts and laughter you could hear a sound system playing a range of decent music. Would be a fun place for a medium sized group to start a fun night.

Meat Bar was an unexpected substitute on a recent burger expedition, and having heard plenty about it on social media before I was intrigued to see what they had on offer. We visited early on a relatively quiet Tuesday evening, but by the time we were leaving the majority of the tables had been filled. The staff were quick and attentive, which is never a bad thing, and their music choice was impeccable. That’s a big deal for me! For starters we chose the ham & chorizo croquettes and the haggis bon bons from the specials menu. We both thoroughly enjoyed our choices, as well as having a wee nibble from the other person’s plate as per usual… I did think the croquettes could have benefited from a touch more Manchego, but as a cheese lover that’s a typical thought of mine. Regardless, the accompanying tomato jam was the perfect level of sweetness and worked brilliantly alongside both the croquettes and the haggis. We both opted for burgers, one classic burger with cheese and one Grinder(paprika beef patty, chorizo & manchego) and fries to accompany. The Swine Fries with pulled pork, chipotle sour cream, red onions, peppers and jalapeños were really delicious, but cost nearly as much as my burger for a relatively small portion. The same could be said for the plain fries which seemed a tad overpriced for a small portion. When the burgers themselves aren’t the cheapest, this was a bit of a bugbear for me. Overall it wasn’t a bad experience and I would more than likely return to sample some of the other meaty offerings on the menu, but I think I’ll give the burgers a miss in the future.

I was wanting to go here because I noticed on their Instagram that they had interesting beers on draft, with guest beers too. On the day we visited they had two blonde beers as guests, which were £5 a pint for keg beers. Opted for unusual darker bottled beers, which were delicious, if a little on the pricy side, but major plus points for having a beer menu with all the prices clearly marked. It’s only a 3 star review from me for the meat bar as the staff said they were fully booked several times, which is fair enough except if they say you need to move twice and ask you again if you want food and can’t have a table for more than an hour(and in all the time we were drinking our beers only a few people arrived so they were not actually needing our table back that quickly!) Not the most welcoming.

This was a birthday treat. Decided to gather some friends up and go for my birthday. There was 6 of us and they were happy to have us, no issues seating us as we had booked prior to going. We all were excited to try the meat cocktails. So a few of us decided to get some different ones. I chose the meat martini and a few others chose the mojito. Bleghh! I’m not a big fan of tasting strong alcohol flavours so I didn’t really enjoy mine. I love cocktails because they are so sweet and you can hardly taste the alcohol but this was too strong for me. However others at the table enjoyed siping at my drink to try it. They looked really good as the were garnished with some meat. I got a pulled pork burger as that’s my new favourite thing nowadays. It was so good and ate the lot as I was rather hungry. My husband and I got chilli fries to share also which were great! Super spicy just how I like them! Everything was reasonably priced so no complaints there. I think as there is so many meat/burger places in Glasgow now that this place gets over looked. It’s a hidden gem in my eyes.

I hummed and hawed about a 2 star review here, and whether or not it should be a 3. I guess I’ll write the review and see… The Good: meat infused cocktails. I love this idea. And the décor, also good. The staff are damn friendly, credit to the place. Only… The Bad: If your burger doesn’t come with sides, it shouldn’t cost that much. Nope. And it needs to be something special, something much more special than that. It wasn’t a bad burger by any means, but with the competition that there is in Glasgow, you need to be aiming higher than that. And pulled pork — again, you need to be doing something special. So we’re back to The Good: The pulled pork is, in a crowded market, decent. The addition of apple sauce? jus? whatever it was — was brilliant, and I would have liked to have seen more of it. I chose the dish because of the promise of crackling… The Bad: …which never arrived. They were out of it, but failed to say when I ordered. They did bring me some crispy bacon instead, but it wasn’t quite the same, y’know. And crackling wasn’t the only thing that they were out of. For a Saturday lunchtime, this was surprising. Sigh. Ok, I can’t give a 2-star on this basis. I’ll settle on a 3. A disappointed, must-try-harder 3.

I’ve been to Meat Bar a few times and never really been disappointed, it’s been so long and their menu has changed a few times, I felt it was due to re-visit! We had booked a table but when we arrived it wasn’t quite ready yet, so we sat and ordered a drink at the bar. I treated myself to a ‘French 142′ — a prosecco, lemon juice and gin cocktail which was very refreshing! By the time my drink was made, our table was ready to we got seated and looked over the menus. The décor in Meat Bar is one of my favourites in the city centre. Hard wood floors and bar, brown leather seats and stools give the restaurant an American, slightly rustic, western feel, which matches the mixture of blues and country that gets played quietly. The place has a great ambience and the smell coming from the in-house smoker is seriously hunger inducing. We decided to start off by sharing a couple of starters — Crispy Pigs Cheeks and Beef Shin Croquettes. I have to be honest, when the pigs cheeks arrived, they didn’t look particularly appetising, but they tasted fantastic. The texture was similar to pulled pork, but a little firmer, and had bags of flavour, I was very reluctant to share it with Sam. The beef shin croquettes were tasty but I felt they needed a little bit of salt. For my main, after deliberating over about four different dishes I settled on the Pork Belly Ribs with quince & chilli glaze. I must have not been paying attention as I missed the ‘belly’ part and thought I was getting a wrack, so when the huge pork belly slices were sat in front of me I was a little taken aback, but I love pork belly, so I got stuck in! The meat was really tender and had great flavour, but the star here was the glaze. The quince gave sweetness to balance out the chilli to make a perfectly heated, sticky glaze that I coated every bit of meat in. I’m glad I opted for that instead of BBQ sauce. Sam had ordered the ‘Meat Dog’ — a hot dog topped with pulled pork and crispy battered jalapeños. I tried some of the pulled pork and immediately wished I had ordered it as my main because it was so smokey, tender and juicy. Sam claimed the star was the crispy battered jalapeños, but I’m not a fan of jalapeños so I can’t comment on that! To go along with our mains we ordered a portion of the Truffle and Parsley fries which, like always, were awesome. They have just the right amount of truffle so it isn’t over powering, crisp on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside. The only downside was that we had quite a long wait for our mains. This wasn’t a big deal as neither of us were starving, more simply that we got more and more jealous as we watched everyone else’s food go by us! On the plus side, the staff were very friendly, chatty and apologised for our delay. For dessert, we decided to share their cheesecake of the day, which was Chocolate, Cherry & Almond. The cheesecake was topped with chopped cherries, while the chocolate sat just above the biscuit base, meaning you got a lovely hit of solid chocolate in every bite. There was a bit of a fight over the last piece — and Sam doesn’t even like cherries! The meal came to a pretty reasonable £59, considering that covered 2 courses each, 3 drinks each and a dessert. The quality of the food is so high that the prices seem quite reasonable for what you get, plus your bill gets brought to you in adorable mini frying pans that I’d love to get my hands on!

As a late Unilocaler to this place, it seems to have settled down a wee bit. Popped in twice now and both times, it’s been really good. We had chicken wings to start with a hot sauce on the side. Wow. they were not even the usual tiny wings, but proper man sized one! Absolutely loved them. For mains, I had a bun-less burger first time round & the flavours were absolutely delicious. The triple cooked chips were morerish, but filling. Fiona opted for pulled pork, which she said was the nicest she’s had locally for a while. Second time round, I went for a rib-eye steak & that was wow… No lack of flavours or slip in standards from the two visits. Sometimes being stuck in the table at the side of the bar, you can get forgotten about & getting the bill can be a challenge. Thats a minor niggle though, this place really is all about the MEAT& can’t wait to pop in again next time I’m passing! You Gotta Eat Here — For Sure! :-D

Need to come back and try more. The side dishes were excellent as was the MEAT. The staff were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Craft beers were tasty. Only gripe is the smell of bbq on your hands will persist so maybe handwipes would be an idea.

Been here a couple of times now and it is the perfect place to get your meat fix! Currently they have a slightly reduced menu for the Commonwealth games but it is still full of carnivous delights. I was torn between several things but opted for the Splendor burger(beef patty, braised shin of beef, toasted smoked mushroom caviar, tallegio cheese, roast garlic alioli) with candied bacon as an extra. I think all of us were feeling the love for the candied bacon. I also got the truffle and parsley chips and the mac n cheese to share with a friend. The cocktails also are a talking poiny. I opted for the T-bone Treacle, which was strong and had a meaty garnish and a definite meaty after taste. I definitely couldn’t have had more than one as it was quite sickly after a while. The service was good and the servers very friendly and chatty. I especially love their t-shirts that just say ‘MEAT’(which you can buy from the bar for £15). There were a couple of drawbacks; one is the size of the place(it’s quite small and booking recommended). Another is the price as it’s not too expensive but also not that cheap. Altogether for the burger, chips, extra bacon and the cocktail the price was £23. I would say that it would especially handy if the gluten free options were marked on the menu. Overall though I had a really great time with some delicious food.

I’d been meaning to visit here for some time and finally made it along for lunch with Martyn on Friday. There was a slight mix up meaning I was an hour early. Thankfully there was a really kind waiter told me that was fine and noted they needed the table back at 2.30. Ok. As time ticked on, he suggested I move to another table which was good as that table didn’t need to be back by a certain time. I was a little disappointed when I had a proper look at the menu. Nearly every dish is served with bread of some sort — whether it be a slider, sandwich or burger. Out of the main dishes only 4 of them aren’t a bread-orientated dish. I guess that I expected it to be more paleo than that due to the name(I’m not paleo but I am trying to avoid bread on a gluten free thing). Anyway, I decided to get a few different dishes — beef brisket, mash with marrow gravy as well as deep fried pickles with blue cheese dip. I felt like the food took a little while to arrive but I was totally starving so I’m not sure that actually was the case. The brisket looked impressive but for me, it didn’t deliver in the taste department. It was just a bit on the bland side and possibly needed more seasoning. I was a lot more impressed with the sides. While the mash could have been warmer, it was really smooth and delicious and the bone marrow gravy was rich and tasty. The real stand out though was the deep fried pickles. WOWSERS. This dish was amazing. Big slides of pickles sliced lengthways in half, deep fried and then with a thick blue cheese sauce. I loved it. The prices were pretty reasonable, all up my meal would have been around £15 for a main and two sides. But I just didn’t enjoy my visit here that much. While there was one pretty friendly waiter(referred to above) the other one came across as a little hostile. The beef brisket was pretty uninspiring so I left most of it and instead just ate the sides. There wasn’t much else on the menu that really took my fancy and I’m a pretty big meat lover. I’ll probably come back but I won’t rush.

I have been surprised at the very average ratings the Meat Bar has been getting and decided it was about time we checked it out for ourselves. Turned up with no booking and the place was mobbed but they still managed to squeeze us in. Really like the set up inside and the cool décor. They were playing funky 60’s &70’s american tunes on stereo — very retro in a good way. Bottled beer list is great, loads of options from Scotland and the states. I went with a harviestoun wild-hop IPA and it was very nice. On the food front the triple cooked thick chips with cheese were lovely. Alongside them I went for a set of three sliders. Pulled pork, the spicy chicken and the classic burger. All were good but the latter was my favourite. The food was well presented and the service was quick and attentive. The best bit of the meal had nothing to do with meat though. The dessert we had was a peanut shortbread with salted caramel ice cream! Amazing! This is that sort of course that you know if you go back you will 100% be getting that again. Meat bar serves really good food and nice beers at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. Overall it definitely deserves 4 stars. The dessert nearly gets it 5, but not quite.

I had been wanting to try The Meat Bar since I first heard about it a few months ago. I had been a little wary of it not living up to expectations but I was wrong, in fact there was absolutely nothing wrong with this little place! A great beer list is a perfect place to start. So the bit we are all dying to know… What I ate! We skipped starters and went straight to mains. I chose a sandwich, yes just a sandwich! A sandwich that contained Brisket Beef /Swiss Cheese /Grilled Onions /Whole-Grain Mustard /Horseradish /Silky Bone Marrow Gravy and even the sesame bun was grilled. The food was ready very quickly but you should expect that as food like your slow cooked pork or beef has to be cooked and marinated for hours and sometimes days before hand! Now this is where I get a little more than what I ordered, I insist of trying Mr A’s food, which was the sliders. Recommended by the helpful waitress she suggested he ordered THREE! Happy days. The classic, The Pulled Pork and The Chicken. Not one bad one even the classic was cooked just right! All this washed down with a huge bottle of Arran Blonde. So far I’m quite impressed and its about to get better! After polishing off every little bit of food on my plate, a bite of three burgers and a shared side portion of Triple Cooked Chips with cheese we insisted on sharing a desert. Peanut butter shortbread with salted caramel ice cream, I have no words for this you just need to try it! All in all this was a hit for me great beers, awesome food, very busy for a weeknight, good music. I am a fan!
