A rare sunny day in Glasgow. 5.30pm and looking for somewhere to sit in the sun is always going to be a challenge. So low and behold the only place with outdoor seating. I was a bit gutted when I realized I couldn’t get a cocktail outside especially when I could see the other outdoor areas with their cocktails shakers at the ready but hayho. Ordered a bottle of wine, red and white was only £6 something –which in any bar is a happy shock to get, whereas the rosie was £8/9 something– realistically still cheap. We got the rosie wine, after finishing our bottle the table beside us was leaving and gave us a pretty much full bottle of rosie. Sore! We then ordered chips and potato fries, I was rather disappointed at the lack of nibbles available. After an hour and another bottle of wine down our food still hadn’t arrived. We noticed that the table beside us was also waiting impatiently. The bar tender– William was lovely and really apologetic. He advised that once both tables had finished their bottle he would provide a bottle each on the house to apologize. Score! Second free bottle of wine, I was also not going to point out that our food only cost £4.50 so it would have been more cost effective to give us that free of charge… but you know the bar tender made the choice who am I to argue lol. We enjoyed ourself however I noticed that after a long wait the other table’s order was wrong and he had to wait yet again for the right order. That was just not great service, they didn’t accept the extra bottle of wine as far as I could see and was not best pleased with the food they eventually got. If I was basing the review on the service we had from William it would deff be 5 stars, however due to all the rest I have to go with 3.

My friend and I were approached on Royal Exchange Square by a young lady offering a voucher for a £5.00 lunch as we were heading to a spa afternoon we thought we would have a quick lunch before we went. I cannot say there was no such thing as the £5.00 lunch as they did have several options on there menu. One of them was a deep pan freshly baked pepperoni pizza, unfortunatley my friend is a very palin eater and asked if she could have a plain Margherita pizza unfortunately the fresh baked pizza is really a previously prepared frozen one, so the answer was no. I ordered Chilli Con Carne with steamed rice & tortillo chips, at best all I can say that it was edible this was £6.00. The waiting staff were like good cop bad cop one had a very nice manner and the other very abrupt and surly. My Friend who was paying for lunch deceided that a tip was not in order unless it was to improve their customer service

I don’t know if it’s just me, but every time I’m in this bar it is always *really* empty. Granted, I don’t normally come here of a weekend where I’m guessing it’s far more popular — it’s just nice for the occasional week night cocktail. The cocktails are okay, but nothing to write home about but the service has always been really attentive so that bumps One Up to the third star. It’s just not spectacular, either for price or style and so it’s pretty middle of the road for me.

This is a total diamond in the rough in Glasgow. Well, it’s not rough, but it is a diamond. It is always really busy and so brilliant for people watching. I’m not a smoker, but they have a lovely smoking area which you have to walk to to get to some parts of the bar. The prices are moderate, not too bad for the place we were in. It’s very lavish and looks like it should cost a lot more than it actually does. It’s a brilliant place to come for a drink and always has a great atmosphere. One up has one thumb up from me. Haha!

All fur coat and no knickers springs to mind when I think of One Up, yes it may look fancy, but those tacky chandeliers don’t full me and the kind of crowd it attracts are people who think they’re something they’re not. It’s full of people who think that buying a bottle of Moet equates to class. It’s hoaching with old skanks wearing next to nothing and sleazy men who think that if they flash a couple of £20 notes it will make up for their lack of personality. One Up’s website describes it as a great place to «strut your stuff», enough said really. I remember speaking to a woman who was in her mid 40’s who came here of a weekend and then fell out the door at three in the morning so she could get some chips, cheese and kebab sauce. Tragic.

An full on attempt to be something for those people who think they are a bit better than others. I don’t mind going to One Up but I just don’t love the fact that guys will come up to you expecting to get a weak at the knees reaction from a girl just because they mention that they are a footballer, or th owner of wherever or whatever. This alone put me off this place shortly after arriving. I expect that people who need to spend alot of money buying pretty girls bottles of champagne, do not have much going for them in the good old personality department. The other reviews are right about the gorgeous location and swanky fixtures and finishings but this is where it stops. Not my cup of tea, but could be yours.

I think the previous review has covered most of the important stuff here, basically it’s an expensive, upmarket bar with lavish décor and all the other trappings you’d expect in such a place, though unlike rivals like the nearby November, it does actually cater to a relatively upmarket and professional crowd. Mind you, at weekends a fair few skanks still find their way in. To be honest, it’s not really a place I’d personally bother with, but I did once see the bouncer amusingly knock back a group of Manchester City footballers, and when they delivered the predictable«do you know who I am?» line he responded with a deadpan«I’m afraid I don’t.» Brilliant.

One Up has to be one of the most amazingly decorated bar/club/restaurants in Glasgow. It all starts on the 1st floor on the corner of Royal Exchange Square. When you walk into the main bar, you’re met by a bubbly host who will take you to a table(notably comfy booths around the bar). The main bar itself is amaaaazing! It’s huge, and there are mirrors, chandeliers and chic furnishings all around — very, very upmarket. I recently came in here for a drink with my mates after shopping, and two of us ordered wine, and the other had a coffee. Now, dont get me wrong, the wine was amazing, but, the coffee came with tablet. My friend, the lovely lovely girl she is, tried to split the bit of tablet between the three of us… now as we were making a mess, a waitress noticed, and came over to ask if we all wanted a bit,(er, YES!) and she disappeared and came back with a small bowl filled with the stuff! SCORE! We didn’t even get charged for it… waaaay! Anyway, One Up is also in cahoots with the Chippy Doon the Lane, next door(across the terrace), and have several private rooms available for hire. They also have ‘party pads’ which are small private rooms(can hold up to 15 people) with karaokes, that you can hire out for a small fee. Ok, on a Saturday night I can imagine One Up filled with footballers, WAGS, and wannabes, however, it’s not ‘unclassy’ on the whole. A place to feel posh in, I’d say.

Being a bit older than the average clubber, it’s nice to find somewhere which caters for the over 25’s, as One Up does. It has a couple of bars, a smoking terrace, restaurant and club area. I like the bar areas although I found the prices quite high. There is a good door policy which means there are no troublemakers ruining things. However I went to the club area against my better judgement and it was just too cheesy for words. They played a lot of old skool dance music and it was full of 30 somethings reliving their youth. There was just something wrong about it, in my eyes anyway. I really like the bar however, and given it’s open till 3am, you can have a late night without experiencing the club at all.

Fabulous décor, resonably priced drinks and good music. You can even hire your own VIP room for the night with karaōke. I love this bar! The staff are always friendly and helpful. You can relax on the smoking terraces away from the music and chat or watch the sport of the flat screen tv’s. Nice and relaxing and even on a cold night the terraces are usually warm enough, being sheltered by the building. I’d highly recommend going to this bar.
