Not a regular I don’t often frequent Sammys, but on the rare occasions I do it’s been OK. The bar can get busy when there are bands on through the back, or on a weekend night. I’d definitely class Sammys a wee local, but this twist of music venue brings all sorts to Nithsdale Road. In general there’s a standard selection behind the bar, the décor’s a bit shabby, the TV’s have seen better days and when it’s busy it can smell of old man’s farts. So to sum up, order your pint on Tennents when there’s no footie on telly and on a warm summer night when the doors are open.

This is a good traditional pub. They always have two real ales on tap, and usually(with one exception, in my experience) the ales are fresh and well maintained. The staff is friendly and easy going. The patrons are mostly 40 – 60 years old, both men and women, but it would be a comfortable place for people of any age to hang out. They have free live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

Sammy Dows is a friendly south side local sitting off Nithsdale road with regulars from both sides of the track, always friendly with an eclectic array of regulars and groups meeting there(white witches once a month) and a hall out the back where all sorts of music gigs go on from indie to heavy metal.
