There’s certainly no shortage of bars in Finnieston and whatever your scene you’re sure to find it without looking too far. This is one that I seem to walk past regularly without ever thinking to go in. As it turns out, that attitude isn’t justified. We stopped by on Thursday when we were searching for a pub quiz. The pub quiz here is free, fun and light hearted, with lots of banter between the quiz master and the regulars. We did terribly but also had a pretty excellent time. Interior wise, it’s a fairly traditional Scottish pub. No gimmicks here but it’s nice and cosy, plenty of seats without feeling crowded and two rooms on either side of a decent-sized bar. You could just as easily imagine people dropping in in the late afternoon for a quiet pint while they read the paper, as opposed to the busy chatty social scene that we saw on Thursday night. It’s a Belhaven Bar and they don’t have a huge amount beyond Belhaven beers on tap(I noticed Staropramen but not much more). However, the prices are really good for Finnieston and you can get a bottle of wine for £8.99. This place isn’t going to win any awards for innovation or for being super stylish but it’s a good, standard unpretencious pub. No one’s going to expect you to dress up. No one’s going to be instgramming their pint and no one’s going to bother you if you just want to sit and chill with your pint on a drizzly Glaswegian afternoon.

Second stop on the merrygo round that was my friday night. Nicely decorated, kind of homey with a bar either side and plenty of seating on both. Friday night means free jukebox night which can be good or bad. After being in lebowskis i had to curtail my rum selection as they really didnt have as much but the tradeoff was that it was quite a bit cheaper. Only one guy serving both bars on a friday night didnt instill much confidence but he was quick and chatty so didnt have to wait long. Nice wee bar, need to try the food but will possibly be back for some cut price tipple!

Would love to come back here and try the food! The Snaffle had a lovely décor, great range of drinks and it’s the perfect small and cosy pub.

I have to second the general consensus thus far on Unilocal for this gaff. I must have walked past this place hundreds of times and just never felt the desire to go in. Didn’t look like my kinda place. Took the notion last week for the simple fact they had a quiz on that started earlier than Big Slope. And sometimes, life is full of surprises. What a night. Extremely modest prices at the bar given its location, with some awesome promos on at the time. The general vibe was really cosy where I got a real feeling there were some proper locals and regulars who know each other well. More importantly, I felt extremely welcome. It was a blast. Though I agree there’s a no nonsense sort of appearance, I wouldn’t say this is a bad thing at all. It’s just in an area that is big on décor, so it perhaps stands out. I think it’s kind of awesome in this respect though, as it gives off an authentic, and honest pub vibe which is always a good thing. Will definitely go in again.

It’s fine for what it is — and what it is? It’s a nice little escape from the, shall we say, somewhat pretentious bars and pubs that inhabit this end of the town. Within walking distance of Kelvingrove Galleries, it’s a wee bar that seems very«local» — every time I’ve been in, I’ve seen a few of the same faces, sat in the same places… but it doesn’t have that«uh oh» feel when you go in. More often than not, I’ve been in on a night when there’s been rugby or football on the television to shout at/watch in horror/enjoy(very rarely the last one when Scotland’s involved) and the folk have all been nice and bantery — if that’s not a word, it should be. It’s a fair mix behind the bar, all the usua; drinks you would expect from a Glasgow pub, and the prices are just about normal. All in all, it’s a fine wee place to drop in. Very much a «couple of drinks, and head off» kind of place unless you’re in with a group of folk though… and that’s not a bad thing.

The Snaffle bit is one the few remaining bars left in glasgow that are honest and not trying to be something that they are not. This is a no frills bar that’s why the drink is cheap whilst all the other bars are bright and modern they lack in character that bars take years upon years to achieve. This a busy bar and sometimes standing room only they have karaōke, bands, and live music most weekends. It is hugely popular, so you must be sure to be in early in the evening to be sure of a seat. It has a broad mixture of age groups this bar is an easy place to feel comfortable in.

Great place to meet friends and have a gas over a few beers. Nice relaxed atmosphere and away from some of the busier areas so tends to be a good crowd.

Another of the Highland pubs in this area, the Snaffle bit for me aint the best place for a drink. With the Park Bar in all its glory just around the corner, the bit feels a bit like the ugly bridesmaid, yeah some guys gonna dance with her, but have you seen the nick of the guy!(if i’m being incredibly sexist then i apologise, it’s late and i cant think of a better metaphor so there!!!). Ok its nice enough inside, you can watch the football if you desire, there is often live music and i suppose the punters are nice enough, but its no Park. Sorry guys.

this is a pub. and i mean that in the most affectionate way — a place where men drink manly drinks and speak of manly things in a manly fashion while lookingwell, manly. no spills, no thrills. it’s a pub — did i mention that? they show football on a regular basis(because it’s manly — are you beginning to see the theme?). trying to sum this place up puts me in mind of the frankie boyle line — guy goes into a scottish pub, asks for a lager and lime. the barman looks at him and says we don’t do cocktails — manly!

A comfortable, unpretentious traditional West End pub. Just an ordinary boozer with traditional décor, unlike the modern designern bars that have mushroomed up around it. It has a similar Highland clientele and charm to the nearby Park Bar. It is hugely popular, so you must be sure to be in early in the evening to be sure of a seat. It has a broad mixture of age groups an is an easy place to feel comfortable in.
