This train station is quite close to most things in springburn and will easily take you into the city centre in a few short minutes. I like the last review got on the wrong train, don’t I wish I had read this review before I had done that. Ha. This is not the only train station that I have done this from so maybe that says more about me than anything else. I second that! Check where you are going and make sure that you are going in the right direction.

Springburn is a handy interchange station, in a place steeped in railway history. Both of my grandfathers were employed in the huge railway works that used to lie nearby. The station lies in the heart of Springburn and is also just about a 10-minute walk from St Rollox retail park, which includes a Lidl, Costco and Tesco superstore. Nearby Barnhill station is closer to the retail park, but it does not see any Sunday services, so Springburn would be your best bet on this day. Not only is Springburn served by electric trains to the west end of Glasgow, it also sees a regular service between Glasgow Queen St High Level and Cumbernauld, on much more comfortable, table-fitted, air-conditioned ‘Turbostar’ trains. Be careful though, despite the electric trains arriving from the south, trains to Cumbernauld depart in the completely opposite direction even though they are travelling northwards. This caught me out one time when I jumped off an electric to get a Cumbernauld train and wrongly assumed that since Cumbernauld was to the north, it would be from the same platform. How very wrong I was — it was only when I noticed a sign saying ‘Welcome to Glasgow Queen St’ that I realised my mistake. A word of advice for you then; if you are changing train at Springburn, make sure you read the signs to see what platform to go to — don’t be a smart alec like me!
