St Enoch Subway Station

St Enoch is very handy for the central shopping area of the city, being located at the bottom of Buchanan Street and start of the shopping area of Argyle Street, as well as being near the Merchant City, the more central entertainment areas like Princes Square or St Enoch centre and several banks (there’s a Barclays ATM in the station too). It’s also the closest subway to Central Station, and for places further East in the town like Glasgow Green. A nextbike bike hire station is also nearby (Glasgow’s public bike hire scheme).
The whole subway station has had a makeover, so is generally well maintained and clean. The subway has ‘The Cloud’ Wifi.
I notice they appear to have introduced lifts and also a tactile map. The area by the map also has some ‘top 10′ places to visit, so handy for tourists (and ‘holiday in your own town’ locals).

Looks nice on the outside, still proper 70’s inside. On weekends there’s usually some sort of rally that it’s good to avoid being around so I would tend to get on/​off at Buchanan Street instead.

Im liking the glass structure thing when you enter. But I am struggling with SPT to where the £300 million has been spent on the underground.
That’s £20 million for each of the 15 stations. An insider told me it had been squandered on bonuses. Connection buses bought to connect, but buses were too wide for the road. I’m sorry.
But all I’m seeing is tiles on the floor, walls, new ticket office, ticket barriers. Hardly £300 million worth. And the trains are pretty much held together with a plastic coating to try and make them look new.
Where are our new trains. Please don’t say track work, as I almost got thrown from my seat when the train moves side to side as the tracks are not straight. And still no wifi??? The ticket hikes are what they are hoping to buy things with as they gave squandered the money.

Ah, the bold St Enoch. First place I ever did shoogle, and nearly always the starting or finishing point for a day of shoogling.
Also, generic starting point for the legendary and mighty (and possibly almost fatal) SUBCRAWL~~~!!!
It’s had a BIG revamp recently, some of it is still ongoing; the entrances have been changed from brown brick and dark glass monstrosities — I’m sorry, but it was true and you all know it — into very European, light, impressive clear glass covered domes of goodness. If I had ever been, I’d say it reminds me (slightly) of a Weegie version of the Louvre. Less art, more chips, but.
Underneath the ground is a total change from what used to be here. The little island that had the staff surrounded by mad shooglers has gone, replaced with a bright, white ticket office that makes for quicker ticket buying and travelling. The new Subcard is well represented with a ton of machines to top up and buy your credit.
This is probably the most physically imposing and impressive subway station, and might well be a tourist’s first impression of the Subway. For that, it’s a damn good advert. Bravo, underground dwelling peeps… bravo!

This station is looking a lot better with the recent refurbishment. The ticket office has been relocated to the side and the central hall area is now completely open from one end to the other. The new canopy at the entrance looks pretty spiffy too.
I do miss the weird sculpture thing that used to be in the middle of the floor that looked like some hydraulic pistons, I liked its quirkiness. But I guess it was a bit of a hazard to navigation in rush hour.
This station is handy for the shops of Argyle St., the bottom of Buchanan St. and the St. Enoch shopping centre. It’s only a short walk from Central Station too if you’re travelling on the big trains. :)
Trivia — The name St. Enoch is actually a corruption of St. Thenew, who was the mother of Glasgow’s patron saint Kentigern (aka Mungo). There used to be a holy well and shrine dedicated to Thenew at the south end of the square, and later a church of the same name housed her tomb here.

St. Enoch Subway is located in a great place if you fancy a day in town shopping, granted you have to walk uphill to Buchanan Street but normally by the time I’m finished on Argyll Street theres nothing much at the top I cant get next to this station, expect Forbidden Planet of course!
It’s clean enough, the new gates save some time (even though the staff mainly look grumpy watching them!!) and even when they were doing the refurbishments there was never to much of a delay. The addition of free WiFi is also every obsessive «Checker-​iner» (like myself) dream!
There two entrances, one which leads on to Argyll Street and the other towards the entrace of St. Enochs and down to Clyde Side which is a Bonus at Christmas if you want to miss the busy market that goes on in there.

What a subway station. The one I use the most, being located most central and closest to Merchant City.
Definately the best subway station during peak times — so I’d even make the small walk down from Buchanan St just for comfort.

Being located on St Enoch Square next to the busy St Enoch Centre and Argyle Street shopping areas, St Enoch is one of the most well-​used stations on the subway.
Its large size means things don’t get too messy at rush hour or when Rangers are playing at home, when there can often be big queues prior to kick-​off. The platforms (one on either side) are also suitably spacious.
Being very close to Central station makes it ideal too if you need to hop from the subway on to the train.

This is a handy tube station which is really close to Buchanan Street and two railway stations, Argyle Street and Glasgow Central.
The station itself is almost identical to all the other tube stations once you get down and has self service machines as well as a staffed kiosk.
It’s quite a popular tube station, and more so now St Enoch Shopping Centre has reopened with new shops.

Located at St Enoch Square, right by the shopping centre, St Enoch Subway Station is just off Argyll Street, at the end of Buchanan Street. It’s one of the larger subway stations, often bustling with commuters.
It’s not far at all from Buchanan Street underground and, as Jamie mentioned, the trip can be made on a bike in under a minute. If you’re on foot, however, it’s at a fair enough distance to warrant another stop.
It’s not far from Central Station and Argyll Street train station, so it’s a good place to hop on if you’re heading to the West end, Ibrox, or even just as far as Cowcaddens.

St Enoch’s Subway is right at the bottom of Buchanan Street, in St Enoch square — home to the massive St Enoch Centre (you get where I’m oing with this right?). It’s a popular stop for shoppers (all the big names nearby) and travellers (nearby Argyll Street train station, and Glasgow Central).
Interestingly, you can see the Buchanan Street stop from here, and vice versa. Ok. That wasn’t that interesting.

St Enoch Subway station emerges out onto St. Enoch Square. The St. Enoch centre is a few steps away and, although currently undergoing major changes, it should be a brand new retail centre by January.
St Enoch Square, despite being so central, still has a slightly jakey feel about it. There are plenty of seats about, but the area does have a slightly grubby feeling. This station is very well placed for the major shopping streets, Glasgow Central and The Arches.
