I’d been planning to visit this busy little West End restaurant for a while and just the other week when I was up the town getting a towel set in Watt Brothers I noticed another similarly branded restaurant so thought it time to check them out before they expand and lose their individuality. I phoned up the Dumbarton Road restaurant to enquire about booking a table for two for Saturday night but was told this wasn’t possible — due to walk in trade being quite prevalent. This is surely a sign of their business doing well. Upon arrival there were a few other diners but I was able to get a nice seat by the window. I waited a while for a waiter but none came so headed up to the payment counter which it turns out also doubles up as a service counter. Instead of individual menus there is one large display which explains that night’s available options. The set up is very compact but efficient and a glass display cabinet allows you to see all the food items in their fresh glory. Right there and then you can just point at what you want and the chefs prepare it in front of your very eyes. As I’m currently on a wheat free diet I opted for the bread less Italian BMT and although it tasted rather good I felt it really lacked substance and something to tie it all together. Still, the service was great and the waiter/chef(owner perhaps?) was very polite. Annoyingly my dinner partner never turned up due to a break down in communication. As a tip if you are planning on meeting a date at this eatery then remember to specify the difference between the entrance to this restaurant and the entrance to the Glasgow Underground. I don’t blame the good people at Subway for choosing this name as it was an obvious choice due to it’s proximity to the Kelvinhall stop although I wonder if they really want to expand they should adapt the name of further restaurants to match things of local interest.

It’s 5 past ten on a Sunday morning, I’ve got half an hour to kill, I’m desperate for a coffee. The only coffee shop open in the vicinity is Café Toscana… Meh! Not after my last experience! So Subway it is. Never tried any of this chain but needs must. I’m particular about my coffee but have to say this one did the job! Great taste! A large latte accompanied by a 50p Cookie I still had change from £2. Go subway! You saved my morning!

It’s a guilty pleasure ok! I used to frequent this place on a far to regular basis as my mate used to work here. Just thinking back to those glory days is making my stomach grumble at the thought of a meatball sub with added pepperoni, extra cheese and chilli/southwest sauce… ok you the rest, cheap, cheerful, you think its not junk food but it actually is, pretend food. This effort is probably one of the smallest in town, so its best to hit this if your planning on a takeaway and not a sit in, apart from that its all the usual stuff you would expect… must go, hungry…
