I was not that impressed. It was date night and we fancied something a little bit special. Faithful to my «deal machine» reputation, I found an offer for Tempus online: for £17 you could get two main courses from the market menu, and two glasses of prosecco, which was more than reasonnable. As I always do when purchasing a deal, I check the menu online. The mushroom risotto with truffle oil caught my eye instantly, and I had dirty dreams about it all week. So I was disapointed on the day when the market menu had considerably shrunk to only five mains. Still, I chose the salmon with saffron cream, and don’t get me wrong the cream was definitely something. But the lack of options and the minuscule portion sizes were a disapointment. It was also confusing how we never saw the same waiter twice: we were greeted by someone, told to wait by someone else, finally taken to our table by a third person. Waiter number 4 brought our drinks, the food was served by waiter number 5. To the point when I did not know if anyone in particular was appointed to the table. Made the whole experience quite impersonal, and also made me wonder if Tempus has a whole humpa lumpa like army of staff working for them. An overall nice experience but nothing to die for.

I’ve been to tempus on several occasions, and I have never had a bad experience! If you really want an amazing steak, this is where you should go! Staff are always lovely, and well presented, which only add to the experience! I was there last night for a romantic birthday meal, and not one thing was wrong! Perfect meal for any occasion!

A last minute voyage for food on a busy saturday left few options so we grabbed a pretty sweet looking deal on 5pm…2 courses on market menu and a glass of fizz for £16.95. We arrived to the beautiful and busy restaurant and were shown to our table. The menu was rather limited so I opted for a nosey at the a la carte which unfortunately was also limited. I settled on the pâté for my starter and sausage and mash for the main. Although it was pretty tasty I have to say it wasn’t the best pâté I’ve ever had and as with most places not enough bread for the slab of pâté! There was quite a wait for out main so we were offered a free lemon sorbe palate cleanser — which was lovely! The main itself was nice too. Overall pretty nice place and reasonable price but for me its nothing to write home about.

When I walked in the door for the first time I was absolutely stunned. I hadn’t ever looked in the hotels direction and in my head assumed that it was ‘just a hotel’; how wrong I was! On my visit this time I was there for food and champagne tasting(woo!) with the Unilocal team. Some of my photographs are taken by our resident Unilocal photo-genius. We dined in the Tempus Restaurant, followed by champagne tasting in the Champagne Corner — a cheeky little room just off the Champagne Central cocktail bar. Both bars are elegantly furnished, comfortable and overlook the station concourse which I find really romantic! I was thoroughly wined, dined and champagne-d(I’ve decided that this is a thing) for the evening! We started with a rose champagne in the Tempus bar and we were shown into their private dining room. It was a round table in a round, low lit room with wine bottle and brick décor. Simple, modern and classy. Thai Prawn Fishcake with a Trio of Beetroot — I had my first few bites of this and found it tasty but very crumbly and dry. I had almost written it off and decided that it needed a dressing or a sauce, when I tried it with the Beetroot salsa underneath which absolutely transformed it! It’s still very crumbly, but the Beetroot adds a punchy flavour and moistens it up. Smoked Scottish Haddock with Soft Poached Egg, Hollandaise Sauce & Dill Vinaigrette — Fish + egg = amazing flavour. A couple of people at the dinner table seemed intrigued — it must be a well kept foodie secret. I think that the tender texture of fish with its bold smoked flavour, even on its own, packs a punch. Egg adds a richness to any dish, and it takes the sweet, flakiness of the fish to a whole new level. Add hollandaise sauce and you’re laughing. It was absolutely delicious! 8oz Sirloin Steak with Hand Cut Chips, Tomato, Mushroom & Béarnaise Sauce — I’m usually a fillet steak kinda girl but this sirloin really, really impressed me due to how lean it was. Apart from the edge of fat, the meat was gorgeous and juicy(cooked to a perfect medium) with no strings of fat. I loved it. Juicy steak, hand cut chips, mushrooms and some decadent béarnaise sauce. With champagne. Happy days! While I remember, I’ve flagged this place as Gluten Free friendly. I was sitting near to a gluten free vegan(!) who was presented with beautiful, tasty and filling food that she really liked. Those chefs can handle a challenge! Dessert Sharing Platter: Selection of berries, Meringue, Macarons, Marshmallows & Miniature Ice Cream Cones served with White Chocolate & Baileys Sauce — This. Is. Epic. The miniature ice cream cones absolutely stole the show for me — I love a novelty! Not just the novelty, but the fact you can comfortably put the whole thing in your mouth and enjoy the cone, ice cream and raspberry sauce all in one. My complaint? There are three ice creams so someone is going to get two and the other person will only get one. People could get hurt. The sauce is Baileys and white chocolate which was really runny, which I found odd, and sickly sweet. The sauce was absolute perfection with the selection of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries as it pacified the tartness of the fruit. The meringues, Macarons and marshmallows were lovely too, even though the exact flavour of the green macaron has me totally puzzled! We moved upstairs to the Champagne Central area of the hotel and slipped into a little room called Champagne Corner, which looks like a VIP viewing box in a statism/arena. We found comfortable chairs and a great view of the Glasgow Central station below. The Hospitality Manager was our sommelier for the evening and introduced us to their house champagnes — Lanson. I had a great time and would totally recommend the restaurant and bars!

I visited Tempus for the first time a few weeks ago and was thoroughly impressed! I was going for dinner with my Mum and this was her choice as she has been quite a few times before. We took advantage of a January sale discount, I know that you can book with them through as well. The staff were so polite, friendly and helpful, without being over-bearing, and genuinely made us feel welcome. We were heading to see a play so didn’t have time for starters or desserts but both had wonderful main courses. A bonus for me as always is that gluten-free options are clearly marked and the server could also provide me with a bit more information which isn’t always the case in other establishments. I opted for the steamed fillets of lemon sole with leek fondue, spinach & sautéed woodland mushrooms, grapes & Hollandaise sauce — and it was superb! The Sauvignon Blanc was also delicious! I definitely plan on returning to Tempus in the near future and will be checking out the champagne and cocktail bar next time when I have more time!
