Burger and fries was excellent value at £6. Tasty burger in a brioche bun. Friendly and attentive staff.

This is my second visit to the Duchess of Duke Street, the drinks selection is not bad, the menu is pub like and the staff are pretty friendly but there is nothing particularly outstanding about the actual pub experience. I wouldn’t ‘not’ go back, but it’s just ‘A-OK’.

I agree with Briony C.‘s review: you can’t just pop in for a pint(like I did) — you need to go back and try the food and spend a bit more time in the Duchess of Duke St. Kris B and I were out for a Valentine’s Day wander and we decided to stop here for a drink. The atmosphere was welcoming and warm, the rugby was on the telly, and it was moderately busy; always a good sign. My only slight gripe is that it cost the better part of ten squids for two pints of Blue Moon. Having said that, as Briony C. also pointed out, they have many half pints at £1.50 which is really good value. I saw a few people ordering and receiving food while we were in, and although I can’t comment on tastes, the food looks very delectable and it smelled divine. It was also great value for money also; I don’t think any of the mains cost more than a tenner. I’ll be back Duchess…

A brief pop in doesn’t do this place justice — pay it a proper visit and try the food — this place is a bit of a winner. We popped in for pre-dinner drinks and then post-dinner dessert. I don’t normally buy ½ pints of Strongbow but it was a very cheap £1.50 something which I was very impressed with … maybe that’s a standard price? Who knows. We came back looking for some dessert and while the seating area was nearly full, they stretched us over two tables which was nice. I ordered the apple tart(£4) and the waitress was amazing at keeping us informed in how long it would take for food to arrive as they were pretty busy. The tart was super tasty and I really liked it, although I only ate the filling. The décor is lovely — similar to the Butterfly and the Pig in a shabby chic kind of way, and it really works well in the dining area. I do feel like that lovely atmosphere is a little lost in the rest of the bar but perhaps that will come with time.
