So, this is a different review of the Shed — I’m reviewing it as a venue where there’s always something going on, and not just as a nightclub. Pretty much everyone has had a Shed night out with varying degrees of enjoyment. I’m not going to lie — the best nights I’ve had there have probably been the nights where I’ve been most drunk… I do think though, that sometimes people are very quick to judge somewhere like this solely as a club, and don’t even consider what else the Shed provides to Shawlands. I think though, people overlook the other uses of the building… Did you know that 5 days a week, there’s a highly successful bootcamp going on? There are regularly drama groups rehearsing and putting on performances and there is now also a regular open mic night on a Thursday? All are valuable additions to Shawlands! Definitely a place which shouldn’t be judged at face value!

Contrary to popular belief, this place is not the *only* night club in Shawlands… it’s just the only one that has a prominent ‘in your face’ location. The one thing you need to understand about the Shed is that it is the undisputed home of cheese! If you’re not going to have a laugh and just be silly, you may be disappointed with the music(cheesiest of the 80’s to present day), the tangerine clientele and the sometimes market sensibility. As one who frequents the Cathouse usually, most are surprised that I do(on the rarest of occasions) go to the Shed for an evening of nonsense with friends. The last time I was there, I lost a drinking game and had to do the Funky Chicken Hoedown for a whole song in the middle of the upstairs dance floor. I was hustled, I tell you! Anyway, go expecting mega cheese, cheap(ish) booze, and a huge room of people on the pull. If you don’t mind the latter and go with a group of friends for a few giggles, you’ll probably have fun. If you stop by the Social, you might even get a free or half price pass. On ye go!

I broke my Shed virginity a couple of weeks ago. I stoated in there with some pals, steaming after playing the Eurovision Song Contest Drinking Game. The whole experience made me feel like I was going back in time, to an era I didn’t even witness firsthand. There was something mid 90s about the whole place. I can’t explain it; it could’ve been the«surf’s up» décor at the bars, the cheaper-than-usual drinks or the fact they played The Divinyls, it just felt like a relic to 90s clubbing. After getting past the bouncers who took the piss out of us for our Eurovision antics and paying a whopping 6 quid at the door(bit steep), we finally arrived on the main dance floor. I will never be innocent again. It was a pit full of heaving, dancing lunatics, but none of them were violent and I didn’t experience any rudeness that I would expect of a Saturday night. God, I’m so jaded — I’m impressed when something is just okay these days. It was busy and for once the age group was mixed, which was quite nice to see since most clubs don’t cater for you if you’re over 25. There was a good mix of cheesy music, too — it wasn’t just a main course of Tinchy Stryder and Kanye West. It shuts at two and can be quite intimidating(the«NODRUGSORKNIVESALLOWED!!!» sign at the door made me feel like I was a dealer) but overall definitely not as bad as I’ve heard, so I’m nto going to give it a panning. It’s alright and you don’t have to wrestle for a post club kebab in Shawlands the way you would on Sauchiehall St *shudder*.

Terrible place, awful people, too cool for school staff… it’s just the worst night out ever. The Sheds busiest night is a Friday and if you’re over the age of 16 then I wouldn’t waste my time here, it’s an evening of your life you’ll never get back. The whole place stinks, even worse than usual night clubs, the drinks are so expensive and you have to queue for ages to even get a glimpse of their ill stocked bar, with the cheapest of the cheap spirits. On top of that it’s £5 to get in with absolutely no student discount, the cheapest drink is around £2.80 and believe me, you need to have quite a lot of them to even feel inspired to dance in this place as the music sucks. The last time I was here a rather large rugby type guy bumped into me at the bar and instead of apologising pushed me and started yelling at me, I have to admit, I was pretty scared, how big of him though, trying to take on a 5 foot tall girl. Any club that lets in that kind of scum deserves to be shut down. The toilets are also disgusting, never any toilet roll and look like they need a serious make over and they’re full of Jordan followers trying to glue on each other false eyelashes that have fallen off mid dance. It’s full of footballers wife wannabes, who need etquiquette classes on how to keep their legs shut, so caked in orange tan with about ten pairs of false eyelashes on that they’re practically sweeping the filthy floor with them. Likewise the guys have had a few run ins with the orange tan look and probably only come here as there’s no point in them venturing further afield as they probably won’t get in anywhere. There are some inoffensive people here too, but I get the feeling that they only go out of convenience and probably hate it just as much as I do. All in all probably the worst night of your life, I’d steer clear.

The Shed is the southside’s premier nightclub — EVERYONE from the southside goes here. If you live or work or went to school in the southside(or have any connection), you will know someone who goes to The Shed. For three brief minutes, you might even become best friends with them as you shake their hand, give them a hug and ask them what they are up to these days. This is the same person you hid behind the bus stop to avoid the week previous. The Shed is where you go when you graduate from The Garage. It is loud, brash and gloriously uncredible. However, it has two floors, a nice wee atmosphere, plays all the hits and isn’t too dear. Don’t go in a Thursday because you will literally be the only person there.

The Shed is the star attraction of the Shawlands after hours scene: there are huge queues at the weekend, expanded by smokers escaping the sweaty dance floor and trying out their flirting skills. It attracts a lively crowd– not rough, but young and out on the pull. It’s a heavy drinking environment and not one for either the delicate or the sophisticated clubber: one visit is often enough for most people. It doesn’t have any pretensions, which is refreshing, but it lives up to its name: uninspired and a bit of a meat market.

Next to Queens Park in a leafy suburb, The Shed is the south side’s only nightclub, so by default rather than quality, it’s mobbed every Friday and Saturday, and while not great by any means, a visit here is a fairly inoffensive experience. As a general rule, Fridays tend to be for the under 20s, and Saturdays have a more mixed age range going from 18 up to 40 something, gin-soaked divorcees. The music in the main room is beyond cheese, with B*Witched and the Ghostbusters theme being among the classics you’re likely to hear, while upstairs is commercial RnB schmaltz. Though the musics not great, I’ve never seen any trouble in the place and it’s no better or worse than most suburban clubs. It’s also open Thursday and Sunday though not sure how busy it is, and they do bands and comedy gigs here sometimes. Celeb spotters take note, the grossly obese Scottish woman who won Pop Idol a few years back often prowls the dancefloor here

I was here this Saturday and it was pretty good! Really busy, good music, nice atmosphere. I think Saturday is the best night… fewer young’uns and ruffians! It was free entry before 11 but we didn’t get there till late… however when we did, we found good staff, good music and cheap drinks(£1.80 for a vodka with some mixers). Only visited one of the two rooms as I couldn’t find the other one(yes I wasn’t sober). If you’re in the Southside for a night out I would recommend you visit The Shed!

I have to agree with AB the place is far too busy and reaaly warm inside because of all the people . I would compare it to the garage and say the garage is better so you might as well head there instead of here . I can’t comment on the price of drinks lol as ma freind bought all mine but the décor is alright but i wasnt like greatly impressed with the place . It did have different rooms and one that played r’n’b so i was glad of that.

Although this is now the favourite club of all my Glasgow based mates, I have yet to warm to the Shed. It is pitched at the ‘too old for student clubs but too young to stop clubbing’ crowd with cheesy retro tunes. However, in my mind it is more like an overpriced version of the Garage(which all Glasgow students loved to hate!). The expensive drinks prices I could cope with if it wasn’t for the sticky carpet, massive queues, shabby décor and overcrowding! If it wants to pitch itself somewhere beyond the student market then I think the Shed is going to stop doing such a good impression of a student club!
