Been sitting here for 40mins and still don’t even have my drinks. Absolutely disgusting Mother’s Day service, none of us will be back.

Nope nope nope. I dragged my two pals there for a catch up on Monday. Since slug and lettuce do a 50% off food offer on Mondays, I figured that would be a nice wee cheap lunch in town. I know the chain from London, and only had good memories of it. First, the place was dead empty but hey ho, it’s a Monday, back from holidays so quite understandable. What wasn’t though, was the filthy table(see pictures) and the disgusting menu stained with wine all over(no picture, don’t wanna ruin your night). Since I was the one who organised it all, I didn’t want to sound too negative so kept my mouth shut. That was, until the food arrived. I ordered the spicy pulled pork sandwich with mozzarella and sweet potato fries. Basic microwaved pork in an oversized baguette(artisan bread my …). On the side of my cut sandwich, was some avocado. Not that I don’t like avocado, but my sandwich didn’t contain any, so that avocado pretty much came from an unwiped knife. Cheers. Add to this the overpriced and flat drinks(my pal had to pay 3 pounds for a lemonade and lime. Cause you know, extra for the lime…) For 8 pounds per head there are dozens of better lunches in Glasgow. This was a fail. Which is a shame cause the décor looked really good.

I don’t like downgrading places, but sometimes needs must. We came here last night as part of a team building day for dinner and drinks, and we were left really disappointed. Although we were a table of 12, we had prebooked and there was only one other table in dining, so we figured we’d get served pretty quickly. I opted for the calamari to start, with the Italian-style salmon for my main. Firstly, it took us nearly two hours for everyone in the table to get their main course — some people got theirs a good 15 minutes later than the rest of us(it was a salad that came late, too!)… so we already weren’t massively impressed. While my calamari was beautiful — nice and tender, not rubbery and with a lovely batter on them(the reason I’m still allocating two stars), the salmon was so dry and overcooked that it was inedible. We did make a complaint to the waiter who informed us it was the chef’s first night, and they were having a «meltdown in the kitchen» and we got a food discount & a free round of drinks which was nice, but didn’t make up for the fact that the food was just really bad. One of my colleagues had to send a burger back twice because they kept forgetting the pesto & mozzarella on her«Italian burger» — she eventually gave up & just ate what they gave her. I’ll not be back for food again — and while the drinks are lovely, I’m not sure I love the atmosphere in here so it’s unlikely that I’d return any time soon.

Eh. Yeah. It takes a fair amount for me to give a bad review but yikes. I can honestly say I won’t be coming back here if I can help it! Tempted in by the 2−4−1 desserts and half-price cocktails, a few of us headed here on a Saturday night after being unable to find dessert at a late hour anywhere else. But as Rob K says, the deals really just make things the price they should actually be. I went for some sort of cookie cup thing which had brownie in the middle — or at least something which had been a brownie in a previous life before it shrivelled up and died. It was absolutely rock hard and while the cookie part was ok, that was it… ok. Nothing particularly fantastic about it, it blatantly wasn’t fresh as the lovely Rob also pointed out, just… meh. I also got a Porn Star Martini(ooh-er!) because it came with a shot of Prosecco and it was actually pretty good, hence the 2 stars. The atmosphere was mince, the tables were sticky and grubby, and it generally just wasn’t a nice experience at all. It’s worth paying more money elsewhere for better food, service and everything!

I hate giving bad reviews, but this place deserves it. I’ve heard many great things about here, and have actually just passed it for the first time this week. So, when out with the Mr and a couple of friends, the Slug seemed like a great place to try desert. They do a 2 for 1 desserts every day, and half price cocktails at the weekend so in theory it was a good idea. The staff were plentiful, but appeared lazy and disorganised. Our table clearly hadn’t been cleaned in recent history. Sticky mess doesn’t come close to describing it. Once we finally place our order(the half price cocktails is a total fallacy by the way — this deal just brings them down to the price they actually should be), I soon realised why they do a desert offer. Basically you’re paying a fiver for bought in, frozen crap. 3 of us had apple crumble and all agreed it was rubbish. The microwave obviously wasn’t working as mine was lukewarm and cold in the middle. And it was generally just a soggy mess with bland ice cream. Apart from all that, the music was INSANELY loud. My ears are still ringing several hours later. I don’t object to loud music in general, but there was totally no need for it here. I sincerely hope I never have reason to go here again.

I went here with a group of about 15 women. It was a Saturday afternoon and the place was not that busy. There were a few groups of 2 or 4 people and later on a group of about 10 arrived. There were still plenty of empty tables to choose from. This bar serves a mixture of foods to suit most palates, surprisingly their menu has nibbles at the beginning, but no section for starters. Nibbles cost from 3 to 6 pounds, mains are the average 10 to 18 pounds. The main focus of this bar however is cocktails. I sampled 3 cocktails, a daiquiri, strawberry and cream, and a woo woo. Judging by the reactions of my companions and myself we felt a little let down by the cocktails. They took far too long to be delivered and many in our company wondered if the ingredients were as stated on the menu. There was a definate feel that if you went to the bar and ordered and stood waiting you would get more generous measures than if it was prepared out of your sight. In general this is a bar restaurant with good décor and surroundings. It is very handy for the centre of Glasgow. The food was well prepared and tasty and not overpriced. The staff were approachable and friendly, but it would have been better to have a third member of bar staff, as one was busy taking food orders, serving food and clearing. One member of staff was left routinely to prepare cocktails as well as serve the rest of the bar. I would go back here again but would probably give the cocktails a miss. X

Went here on Saturday(June 6th) for my friends hen night and was really impressed. It has a modern, Art Deco themed interior and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. We did a cocktail making class and had a three course meal for £30 per head. The cocktails and the food were all lovely. Would go back!

I’ve been to the Slug & Lettuce on two occasions now and have to say I don’t think I will be going back other than for a few drinks. Décor etc is lovely but not much has changed from what was The Livingroom. On my first visit three of us ordered the burgers which were a bit on the pricey side. When they arrived they were luke warm. My friend ordered from the 500 calories or less and actually couldn’t stop laughing when it arrived. One chicken skewer with three pieces of chicken and a tiny side salad. On my second visit I thought I’d try and macaroni & cheese, which arrived in a dish on a large round plate, just very glad I asked for fries or this would have looked ridiculous. No side salad on the plate so all in all disappointing. For what they are charging and for what you get I wouldn’t recommend it, which is a pity as it is very close to work and handy.

I’ve been in this venue when it was The Living room a few times. I thought I’d sample it in its newest form as The Slug and Lettuce, especially since its within shuffling distance of my work for some munchies before heading home. Inside I like the colour scheme and décor — comfy cushions with some booth seats. I met my wee mum, and as we walked in, quickly discovered it was empty apart from a few business types having a drink. One side of the place is the bar, the other the restaurant and the guy behind the bar looked somewhat bemused that we wanted to eat, asking us if we had a booking. He said he’d go check in the restaurant which seemed odd considering it looked empty. Anyhoo he came back and we were directed to take our pick of seats in the restaurant so all good there, as we got a comfy seat and some water. There was one other couple eating but apart from that the place was empty. Theres a pretty big selection on the menu, burgers, salads and sandwich type things, some tarts and pies and some veggie and lighter options. I decided on the butternut salad whilst wee mum went for southern fried chicken on artisan bread with a side of chips. I had to laugh at the artisan bread(really just a standard chewy ciabatta). Now in an empty restaurant I would expect service to be pretty quick, so the forty minute wait seemed pretty excessive even although the waiter did say sorry about the wait. When my salad and the huge bowl of chips were brought out 5 minutes before my mums meal, it did seem like they were taking the mickey. When I say a huge bowl of chips, I really do mean it — seriously this was a mammoth portion for £1.50 and my mum thought they were really pretty tasty, whereas I wasn’t so fussed. My salad was okay. I think that’s all I can say about it really. Leaves in a bowl with some chickpeas and roast butternut squash and dressing on the side. My mum said similar of her sandwich — certainly nothing to write home about. We were swaying over dessert, but I had a voucher I’d downloaded through their subscriber service so we had 25% off our bill, so we opted to share the salted caramel bar. This was an unusual long shape of exceptionally sweet chocolate with a layer of biscuit and caramel. Now I love my chocolate but I did find it just a bit sweet and I can’t say it was that special. Now maybe I’m not being fair, I mean it is a chain restaurant and the food was okay and service friendly; but for a new venue, the service was just too slow and the menu pretty uninspiring. Our meal only worked out at about £17 with the discount, but its definitely not somewhere I’ll be rushing back to.

I thought I knew what the Slug & Lettuce was(dingy-style old-man pub) but this place definitely isn’t that — the décor is sleek, modern and classy. This used to be The Living Room but that closed down recently to get refurbed into the S&L(part of the same group) and it opened on Monday 20 April. I popped in for an afternoon visit to check the place out. As I mentioned, it’s been refurbed from the Living Room but the layout is still the same — large bar area and separate dining area. I asked for a refreshing drink and the barman asked a few questions to narrow down what I wanted — he was clearly the manager and knew his stuff although when he whether I wanted my non-alcoholic cocktail to contain Red Bull I did had to laugh — really?! I took a seat while they prepared my drink. There’s some nice window seats so you can gaze along St Vincent St which is nice and generally, this place has a good seating arrangement if you were heading here for drinks on a date or with friends. I could hear the manager training the staff while I was sitting there so obviously they’re still sorting that part of it out. That being said, my drink was perfect when it arrived — a virgin apple mojito, very refreshing on a warm Glasgow day. The drinks menu is comprehensive and has a wide range — although there’s some really odd offerings in there. Peanut butter & jelly martini(with actual PB in it), Blue WKD and Red Bull & vodka aren’t drinks you see at most bars. They also offer a cocktail tree with 9 cocktails on it — perfect if you’re with a group(you all have to get the same cocktail but it is just over £40 which is good value for money). Draught beer includes Peroni, Estrella Dram, Longhorn IPA, Schiehallion, Amstel and St Mungo. I had a brief look at the food menu but it was a bit less interesting than the drinks menu and nothing really grabbed my attention, apart from the burger on there at a whopping £14.95. I mean, Glasgow loves burgers but that is probably the most expensive one I’ve seen so far(granted, it does have a beef patty, chicken fillet and pulled pork on it) With 50% off food on a Monday, half price cocktails on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 2−4−1 desserts every day(plus lots of other promotions) this is the kind of place to go if you’re looking for a good deal. It’ll be interesting to see what this place is like on a weekend/in the evening as I imagine it’ll be popular for post-work drinks.
