The State Bar

Can’t actually believe I have not reviewed the state bar until now! What a great little bar it is. Styled in wood and gold trim you definitely feel like you have stepped back in time. This is really the only place in the city centre I actually really like drinking in time after time!
Firstly the choice of drinks. The Ales especially such a great amazing choices and they change weekly. You will definitely be spoiled for choice. A pint of the craft beer as we call it these days will only set you back about 3 bucks which is great! Drinking better beer doesn’t need to be expensive.
It definitely has its regulars but it is definitely a mixed bag of people from art school students right through to the punters that have been going for years! The music also caters for everyone, Saturday nights varies from house music to your classic. Really is a great little pub who knows what it’s doing! No riff raft in sight and the staff are so friendly! Always ready to tell you about the Ales! Best bar in that area of town for miles!

I am usually on a visit the State Bar for it’s real ale selection, as well as its other ‘on tap’ beers and lagers. The State Bar is well known for its quality real ale selection, there are often 7 ales available and If you are of a whisky liking kind, you may enjoy the regular ‘malt of the month’ (which is a special offer price all that month). They have cider on tap (keg is always available, occasionally they will have ‘real’ cider too). Irn Bru and all the standard softs are available (nothing particularly ‘new’ in the non alcoholic range that I saw though).
The comfy seats are really comfy, there are also bar seats and some areas where groups can gather. The pretty carving on the wall is worth a look, as are the old photos of Glasgow if you go when it is quieter.
In the basement they have comedy nights, well worth a visit. On Tuesday nights they have a Blues band, which this week were rather spectacular (but don’t go on a band night if you plan a quiet conversation, the bar is really busy and the bands are really loud!).
