I used no probe IT a while back when I was in the midst of a dissertation, coursework hell! My compter had started making funny noises which I thought was the fan, they it took a turn for the worst and packed it in. Off I went to find an IT fixer man, or more aptley, I bundled the laptop up and disappeared off out the door with a trail of dust behind me… too many things to do, not enough time!
The man was nice, if not overly reserved and slightly disappointed that he had to talk to a person rather than just fix a computer, not ideal for front of house. The laptop needed a new hard drive, mine was fried (or some technical term to that effect). The service was good and very quick. If you have a desperate situation, be sure to mention as it does make a difference.
