When I need to get a lot of different things and I need them for really cheap… I break down and go to the not-always-24-hour ASDA. Yes, that annoys me that on the side of the building it says 24-hours, but it isn’t on the weekends. I don’t care that it isn’t 24-hours on the weekend, but then don’t advertise that it is 24-hours. For as large as this place is, it is always so crowded. And while the shelves are usually stocked pretty well, sometimes the produce area is pretty bare after being picked over all day long. The reason I’m not a huge fan of this place, after a couple of times trying to pay with a non-chip and pin card, each time it was a big production and the staff members kept saying that I better get a chip and pin card because after a few months they will not accept non-chip and pin cards. Which is a load of tosh because, again, if a company says they take payment by Visa or Mastercard, they have to honor any and all cards, chip and pin or not. Funny enough, today when I was in the self-check out(with plenty of cash to pay for my groceries) the prompts say that if you do not have a chip and pin card, you can swipe it on the side of the screen! No more taking all of my groceries to Customer Service and listening to some staff member lecture me about something I have absolutely no control over. And I rarely buy avocados, but today I thought I would like to have some in a salad, so I bought one, only to have picked one that had no label/barcode on it. So I asked the staff member, who went to go and get a barcode for me, although it took some time, he came back, but wasn’t sure if I had a large or a medium avocado so he brought barcodes for both. I certainly appreciate his help… that may be the best customer service I have received at ASDA.

Hi, i went shopping today at Asda. we went in to get a few bits such as milk, bread etc. I had a voucher for a new line in Hovis Bread called ‘Homebake’. As we got to the self service tills I asked the lady there how I would use the voucher. she looked at the voucher and then looked at the ‘Hovis Homebake Granary Rolls’ I had got with my voucher which in big blue writing said at the top ‘Try New Hovis Homebake for FREE’. At first she said very loudly that we was not entitled to a freebie. I said that we was as that’s what the voucher says at the top, look. She then picked up the rolls we had and said,’ that’s not what your allowed’. I said yes it is as it says that too on the voucher and pointed to it. She throw the rolls back in the basket and proceeded at lighting speed to put in numbers. We thanked her and she strutted off. We shop in asda all the time and have found some issues in the past with rudeness or un helpfulness but never had a place to air my view. Not all staff are bad though, there is some really nice people there like the cigarette counter they are always nice and polite, even when rushed.

A large store with a big range of food stuffs, electrical items, homewares, clothes etc. It’s also open 24⁄7(apart from Sundays) so it’s very convenient. If you can handle the annoying announcements they make every 15 or so minutes(at least on weekends) it’s a pretty good place to do your weekly shop. It’s certainly one of the cheaper places to get your groceries, although you might not find some of the more specialised items you’d get at Sainsbury’s(for example, I was looking for paneer cheese to make a certain curry recipe and couldn’t find it in Asda). But generally the range is fairly good and you don’t get the horrendous queues you’ll find at Morrison’s. The staff are generally chatty and friendly and there are lots of bargains about.

A very big Asda store with very friendly staff. Everything you would need from a Supermarket under one roof. The George Clothing section upstairs is well worth check out for both Adults and Childrens clothing and a quick rummage through the rails will always turn up something on special offer, although their prices are keen to begin with. Always worth checking out the Asda ‘silly prices’ offers too as there are always good deals to be had there!
