I just happened to visit the Yo Sushi in Lakeside and Bluewater within a week of each other, and as they’re both the same chain and both in massive shopping centres, it of COURSE makes sense to do a straight comparison. SO. Lakeside. It’s located in the middle of one of the walkways, but because they’re pretty narrow, you end up feeling pretty crowded on all sides. The way Yo Sushi! works is that you queue outside until a space becomes available and we ended up queuing up to the windows of Game opposite, which was pretty annoying as we had people walking through the queue all the time. But, after about 10 minutes, we were seated at the bar. Okay. We were told upon sitting that it’d be a 15 minute wait for any food off the menu but as it’s Yo Sushi! and they usually have a pretty wide selection on the carousel anyway, we didn’t mind. That’s what we thought, until we actually took a look at it. They had a lot of the cucumber sushi and avocado, and then a couple of plates of what looked like crab, and then a LOT of strawberry cheesecake mochi, but apart from that, it was pretty slim pickings. I get that they were probably at capacity given the queue, but on a Saturday afternoon I’d expect better. We therefore had to order food off the menu in order to eat anything at all, and so got stuck with the 15-minute wait. They could have made it a bit clearer that what they actually meant was they were running low on food and it’d be 15 minutes generally. As usual, the whole thing came to about £30 for two of us and the servers were all pretty friendly and helpful. But, compared to Bluewater, it’s definitely the poorer relation. If I’m ever in Lakeside again, I’ll just grab a sandwich to go.
