If you’re anything like me, you cannot be bothered with stopping by endless small specialty shops that never have what you’re looking for… and if you’re American, you’re probably thinking«GEEZ why isn’t there a Michaels???» In my search for halloween costume creations, I decided to just bring out the big guns and find the largest crafty store possible, and this is what I came up with. It’s a haul from central, but they had everything I was looking for(except for the size in one thing), but I got all my crafting done in one place and that was well worth the trip. My fellow Unilocaler wasn’t so lucky, as she seems to be looking for some items that just don’t prevail anywhere in the UK, but if you need a crafting mecca, I suggest you pick up a crossword puzzle and take the tube ride out. It’s just a short 5 – 10 min walk from the tube station too!

This is a really large Hobbycraft situated in the Greenford shopping centre, so you also have the large Boots the Chemist, Next, WH Smith and other shops to visit plus free parking in a large car park. If you are a creative person Hobbycraft is a great place to buy things for various hobbies plus there is also children’s toys and games, books on hobbies, make your own decorations and some ready made decorations. Something to inspire most people into trying to make something!

This is the perfect place to buy all your arts and craft pieces. Hobby Craft is exactly the place to go if you run a brownie or cub pack. This shop is full of everything you would need to while away those winter evenings. It ranges from jigsaw puzzles through to ‘painting by numbers’. There are often excellent special offers and, beautiful Christmas decorations at fantastic prices. The parking is free and it is easy ti get to by bus or train. There is excellent disabled access so its easy for wheel chairs and push chairs. A great place to visit.

This superstore is like Hamley’s for me. I can wander around for ages looking at different sections. I honestly did not know so many craft-related hobbies existed until I came here and yet I’m always inspired to try something new when I do. It is an enormous store laid out over 1.5 levels. The smaller upper level mostly has boys toys like train sets and model aeroplanes. The ground level is enormous and has everything from knitting, embroidery(their crosstitch kit collection is fantastic), card-making, woodcraft and tons of others. They have kits for people who are learning and equipment for experts as well. They also have demos and classes and these are really good. They also have a range of books on different crafts and a wide selection of crafty magazines. It’s a real treat to come here if you’re even slightly interested in crafts. The location is a bit hard to get to but it’s worth the effort.
