The food here is not very good. It’s a «French» restaurant with stereotypical French food except bland. Came here for lunch and got the steak frites(minute), which is a 6oz flat iron steak. Steak was chewy, fries were okay. Ordered a spinach as a side, no flavour whatsoever. Tried their calamari — edible. One of my coworker’s meal came 20 minutes late and he had to sit there and watch us eat for 15 minutes(we could have waited, but the wait was indefinite!). Not recommended.

Café Rouge is one of those places where the food is selectively great for a few dishes(like the duck) whilst some are average. Deco is dated(perhaps deliberately so) and service is average. We go more when there are 2-for-1 type promotions.

Seems to have gone a bit downhill since the last time I was there. It was still busy so maybe just an ‘off’ night but that’s not good enough in my book! Reasons? My wife’s cut of sirloin was not of the best quality, the waiter forgot steak knife(minor maybe), Peppercorn sauce forgotten and late, my beouff bourguignonne looked the part but was tasteless.

Yes, it’s a chain restaurant, but then most shops on the high street are chains too. At least this resto is tucked up a cute little street so it feels further from the crowds. On a Sunday evening, there’s no need to book ahead. It has a café feel to it, so you could just pop in to rest your feet and have a coffee. Or you can order the steak frites, which B really enjoyed(15 quid). The croque monsieur(7 quid) was meh. But I enjoyed my salad, bread and olives. The olives were very tasty. Stella Artois on tap. Service isn’t rushed and was quite pleasant. Good for group dinners. They have some special menus for mid-week diners as well.
