Harris + Hoole

The first and last time I’ll visit this place. It’s more of an excuse for an espresso café as the coffee is bitter and judging by the sloppy service, was because it was badly prepared. I used to work in a coffee shop in NZ and milk was a priority to be just the right temp and consistentcy for velvet smooth espresso or foamy milk decorated cappuccino. Unfortunately this excuse for a coffee shop is run by staff who are poorly trained, DONT keep cream in their establishment for whatever stupid reason and have a limited list of flavoured drinks, hit or cold. Not only that but these so called cappuccinos are expensively over priced and made with no care whatsoever. I asked for a babycinno and it cost 1.50 and it consisted of semi steamed milk being splashed into a plastic cup. My daughter was not impressed considering Pretamanger offer free babycinno drinks with sprinkles and a choice of cream. In NZ marshmallows are offered but unfortunately I’m still looking for a place that do them.

I’m not a coffee drinker, but my husband is addicted and picky. Guildford is not known for its coffee culture, but if you want a decent cuppa with good ambience, this is as good as it gets in Guildford.

I gave this place several chances because of its great location & quiet space upstairs but unfortunately every visit ends up been more and more disappointing.
At best the staff is not attentive & the espresso based drinks tend to either be too bitter or they have a burned peanut aftertaste which is a sign of poor preparation.
I had one decent hot chocolate drink from here but the rest of the time the ones i had were completely watered down. I guess the only safe option is the tea which is nothing special and no matter the type it is always served at the same temperature.
It is also worth noting that the second floor closes up a couple of hours before the actual closing time…
