Foods always good but it takes forever to get serviced I once waited half an hour before walking out it took too long to even get a menu, doesn’t seem to be much of a system going and if there is then obviously not working Once you do get food though it is always amazing and the ice cream is the best in Hamilton

I absolute adore The Capocci Man! Every time I’ve been in it’s been busy, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it quiet! It’s a café primarily, but sells really good quality food for a wee Hamilton café! The staff in here are always incredibly pleasant, and the food always comes out incredibly quick, despite the busyness. The café also sells incredible ice cream, and even has a wee takeaway window outside for your coffees/ice creams etc. Feeling a quick bite while out for shopping with your granny? Both you and your granny are bound to love this place!

This is such a long-established place that on memories alone it gets an extra star. A relative worked in here in the 70s, and before it was redecorated(into its current snazzy modernity) it was 60s lounge saloon — ugly carpets, green leather, smoke-filler air, excessive mirrors. Now that is gone with the wind(sad in a way), but it is presently a very functional, quite utilitarian and certaily modern(for Hamilton) snack bar — cheap, cheerful, and a very nice hamburger and milkshake to boot.

I’m sorry to tell you that our impression of the Capocci Man as it is nowadays and not in the past is unfortunately very much in accord with the story told by your first reviewer above except that neither my husband nor I would give the place any stars at all. We have given the minimum of one star only because this web site forces us to and we do this under protest. Maybe everything would have been all right if we had not attempted to complain to the Manager in a very civil way about a rude waitress who had first yelled at us that we had to pay the bill IMMEDIATELY and then(strangely) snatched the bill away so we didn’t even know how much it was. While I was struggling to make the young manager understand this and trying to find words I thought would not offend him. the Boss who answers to the description of the lady above interposed herself and started yelling at me at the top of her voice. I literally backed away from her and even put my fingers in my ears, which appeared to make her worse. I’m afraid I can’t tell you what she was really saying except it was to the effect that she was right and I was dreadfully wrong but it was very very loud, didn’t make sense and everybody in the café was being regaled with it and nothing but nothing would make her listen to reason. She certainly gave me the impression of being stark raving mad. As to her nationality, I wouldn’t know, but I did note that at one point MINE was being called into question I heard Are you Scottish or English? Does this have any bearing on the matter? I think you could say that was none of her business. So determined were this Boss, her Manager, and the young waitress to wrong foot us, that we even had difficulty getting a receipt for the bill, which we paid in cash. We are OAP’s and were then forced to laboriously collect our belongings and move slowly out past them accompanied by a barrage of jeers and exhortations to never come back. At least we agree about that. Oh, isn’t it nice when people agree about something? The words of the reply to the first negative review are surely quite revealing of the mentality we are dealing with here. We are not saying the customer is always right but this is light years away from a rational, professional stance. It’s all a far cry from when old Ernest Capocci ran the place and lined all the waitresses up before work and made sure they knew what they were doing(his words). I don’t think that can be happening now. My husband and I are still extremely upset by this and are of the opinion that this sort of behaviour, if it continues, will not only lose them customers, but could possibly end up in a court of law.

It’s nice to see The Capocci Man on Unilocal. What can be said? It’s nice and clean inside, with comfy booths in what is more of a café than a restaurant, with good service. The food isn’t cheap, but it’s always good, so I will happily pay an extra pound. It can get quite busy, which is always a good sign for me that a business is doing something right. As has been said before, the ice cream is a selling point of this place. There are a few good places in Hamilton to get ice cream, with Equi’s being an obvious one, but you cant really go wrong with the ice cream in here. My one lasting disappointment was ordering ‘Irn Bru’ with my lunch and getting a glass of orangey juice which I naturally assumed was ‘Irn Bru’. My sharp Barr’s products palette helped me realise instantly that there was something wrong going on and to my surprise they actually had ‘Iron Brew’ on draught, the cheap nasty alternative that you only get in schools. An obscurity.

The Capocci man is a Lanarkshire institution. It has been here for longer than I have been alive, and remains a firm favourite with kids and adults alike. My boyfriend and I popped in for a quick lunch on Saturday, the day before Mother’s Day, and the place was heaving! There are plenty of seats but every one was full, and we decided to wait on a table anyway. The man who seated us, presumably the manager or the owner, was lovely and cracked a few jokes with us, even though it was clear he was almost having a heart attack from the stress of the day. We were seated and served so quickly! I don’t think others got the same service unfortunately as I heard a good few grumbles and we got a couple of dirty stares, but I was starving and couldn’t have cared less! I ordered a cheese and gammon panini with a caramel latte, and my man opted for the greasy spoon classic of egg, bacon and chips and a glass of Vimto. I didn’t even realise this syrupy purple stuff still existed! We were served in super rapid time too(at this point I was beginning to think they recognised my face from Unilocal!) and got stuck into our lunch. The panini was good, although i would have liked it slightly more toasted so that all of the cheese was melted. It was packed with salty gammon which I loved, but might not be to everyones taste. The caramel latte was soooo soooo sweet, it was almost like a desert, but I drank it anyway! We settled the bill at twelve pounds which wasn’t too bad, but pretty pricey for a café and basic food. The Cappocci man is most famously known for it’s ice-cream which I have sampled before in the form of a milkshake, and I can confirm it is amazing. When we left, the queue for the wee takeaway window was pretty lengthy, mainly with kids waiting for ice-creams. This wee place must do a roaring trade on weekends as it is the only established café in the centre other than Costa.

As a wee boy with nothing much to do during the summer break before school started again, i would always have to be dragged to get myself new accessories and new uniform for school, as was the annual custom, and each time we would all visit the Cappocci Man, which was the biggest highlight of my day. I would order my usual favourite which was a burger with onions, chips and a freezing cold glass of cola. I always walked out with the biggest smile on my face and would always remember it for weeks afterwards. 20 years had passed and i was glad to see it still there, busy as ever(or so i thought when i was about to set foot inside) and i decided to take that trip down memory lane with my parents whilst out shopping. I decided to get my favourite once again(as my parents did) and i can’t say i was all too happy when it had arrived. The burger wasn’t anything to get excited over, except for the few bits of grey, drab looking, fried onion(back then it used to be raw and finely diced), the same kind you see at a snack van but even so, you get alot more from a snack van. The chips were on par and my cola, which i was looking forward to since i was very thirsty was just as expected. After firing down my lunch, which snatched away my nostalgia, i asked for my bill which didn’t come anytime soon due to gabby staff ensnared with what was going to happen on Eastenders rather than focusing on who was paying for their tips, and i was utterly shocked when the waitress said it was £16!!! How can that be justified while we’re in a recession? I almost choked when i was downing the remains of my cola when i saw the bill. If you want someplace to relax for a while to take a break from the bothers of shopping then fair enough, it serves as a great retreat but be warned as it could leave you with a half-full tummy and really light wallet.

For a great plate of sausage egg and chips there is no better place to go in the Regent Shopping Centre. This café has a homely feel about it and is usually very busy. Prices are very reasonable and they also have a take-away window which is usually kept going. Snacks and meals are on offer all day with something for everyone. The ice-cream is also extremely popular and staff are great.
